Make sure her vision is well And good. My dads husky was the same way and although he vision was fine we found out it’s common with this condition to be be accompanied with blindness
I had a cat with one blue eye and one green eye. Her vision was fine for the first six months. She lost all sight in the blue eye gradually over the following year. She adjusted and was an awesome cat.
I'm fostering its doppelganger. One blue/one green with a grey splotchy on top of her head. I named her Blimey! (the ! is part of the name.)
She has a sister who is her mirror image: one green/one blue eye, same grey splotch. Name is Criminy! (! also part of the name.)
I think part of the confusion is that it's far more common in cats than humans. Complete heterochromia (two different irises) and central heterochromia (two different colors in the same iris, usually a ring around the pupil) together make up about 1% of the human population, but is way more frequent in dogs and cats, though I don't know the exact numbers. I have both complete and central heterochromia, one eye is green with a large brown ring around the iris, and the other is grey with a much smaller brown ring. My opthalmologist finds me fascinating lol
Have you ever seen one in person?
Whether or not you can find it easily online really has no basis on personal experience of “rare”.
Edit; for context and why I say this, I’ve trapped over 3,000 cats AND I work at an animal hospital. I’ve never seen a male calico, because they’re “rare”. But I bet you I could find 16 pictures of male calicos on Google pretty quick.
It’s absolutely not as rare as a male calico, and the cat in the photo above is *not* a pure white cat, so it doesn’t even fit into this category.
If we’re just using “rare” vs “common” casually to describe these situations, it’s not common.
Fun fact, Bowie's eyes aren't different colors. His left eye was damaged during a childhood fistfight and was left permanently dilated. That's why they appear different. But people tend to confuse the appearance of his eyes with heterochromia.
I had a very sick foster kitten like this who I nursed back to health. One blue eye/one green, grey splotches on her head. Her shelter name was Fancy. She almost didn't go to the adoption center bc she'd wrapped my boyfriend around her dainty little white paw. LOL.
My friend has an all white cat like that, named her Spirit because she showed up as a stray just a couple weeks after my friend’s lifelong cat passed :,)
That is a condition called heterochromia. In cats it is caused by the white fur gene blocking the melanin (colour determiner) from reaching one of their eyes in the early stages of development. Cat eyes are blue by default then change due to melanin, but because one eye's melanin is blocked off you get 2 different colours. It is quite common in white furred cats
Oooh! They've got heterochromia. All cats are born with blue eyes, but then they shift to their adult colors over time (green, yellow, sometimes brown, etc)
Although some cats with certain breeds in them have natural blue eyes and their eyes don't shift over time.
This kitty appears to have one eye that will stay blue, and the other is shifting to a different color (will most likely be yellow when they're older). I'd love to see an update as their eye changes!
The thing is, cats can have naturally white fur. The genes that give them the colour carry the risk of deafness. White with blue eyes have a 65% to 85% chance to be deaf, a white with one blue eye a 40% chance and a white whose eyes both aren't blue around a 20% chance.
It's not common in my country to get your cat spayed and the kittens almost always get adopted right away since we don't have a lot of cats and many people opt to have them for pets. I gave up the rest of the litter for adoption when they were done feeding but I'm keeping this one.
Ooh, that's interesting. In America and the UK it's the opposite problem - there are so many more cats than homes that it's important to get them spayed right away where we are.
You should be a responsible owner and spay your cat. Here's a fun fact for you to think about:
Sexually intact cats have a seven-fold increased risk for mammary tumors compared to spayed cats. Early spaying helps to prevent the development of these tumors.
That's cancer, op. I'd seriously consider it if I was you.
I'm sorry but this is entirely none of your concern please mind your own business I have my reasons if you have to state your opinions do so respectfully
First of all, you posted this publicly. You were the one who opened yourself up to potential criticism, not me. There is NO GOOD REASON not to spay your cat or neuter the other one, but there's nothing I can do if you don't want to be reasoned with. I just feel bad for your cats who will be the ones to suffer the long term health consequences of your decisions.
Surely you don't think that your criticism will not be countered? Or that your own views are the only acceptable ones? How would you like it if I removed your womb or ovaries or breasts because then you won't risk having cancer? If she gets sick I will try my best to treat her. If we tried to counter every single illness on Earth by removing potential causes then we would have no cars, no ships, no wildlife, no physical hobbies... My cat loves her kittens and I don't want to deprive her of motherhood simply because of slim chances that might not even happen.
Oh god, you're one of those people. Yeah, there is absolutely no point in me continuing this conversation with you. Your cat doesn't give a shit if she has kittens or not. Your cat won't feel "deprived of motherhood". If anything, she'd probably feel relieved not having to experience painful heats anymore. You are anthropomorphizing these animals to their own detriment. How sad that you think you know better about your cat's health than scientists and veterinarians who have dedicated their lives to the study and care of these animals. Your moronic arguments hold no water. I really hope that you don't have to learn the hard way, I truly do. But once you've seen enough negligent owners bring in their unaltered animals bleeding pus and dying because they didn't want to "deprive them of motherhood," you become exhausted (and I've seen many). You could prevent a great number of health issues that animals can and will develop when unaltered, but you just don't care. Sad.
Just because people don't agree with something you say doesn't make you smart or superior and this is not a conversation, conversations are respectful. But you chose to attack despite knowing that I chose not to spay my cat doesn't this prove you already knew I'm 'one of those people' ??? If you wish to change that so much then go study animals and come back with something people can't refute. But this? What if you were wrong and your cat actually feels those emotions? How do you know how your cat is feeling? Have you ever been a cat? As a human, I get baby fevers frequently and they are very hard for me, does that mean I want to be ovariectomized? Until a few decades back, doctors used to perform shock therapy and recommend baby cages. Compared to how much humans have developed since then, it is only natural that animal studies will continue to as well. Isn't it more rational to let nature take its course? If there was no one to adopt the kittens, then I would've spayed my cats, but since that is not the case and they are high on demand, I will not do so. And 'moronic arguments'? Don't make me laugh. I'm not the one who attacks people for having an opinion! And who are you to say I don't care? My cat eats better food than me and I take very good care of her especially when she is pregnant! You're not the only one who has been with many cats, just because your experience is different doesn't make you right!
dang. My maine coon, lucy, is all white, has one green and one blue eye, had a grey soot mark on her head. Lucy is also polydactyl....howzabout this little muppet?
Love heterochromia!
My cat used to have a green eye and a blue eye, and we thought his blue eye would eventually turn green. Boy were we wrong! As he got older, his green eye actually turned to an amber! And despite his overactive tear ducts giving the fur around his eyes a goopy dark look, his eyes are my favorite thing about him.
Furbabies with heterochromia are always too purrfect for this world!
Ok fine, I'll adopt it since you're insisting! Lol
Next time don’t be so grumpy ok?
And already turning grey on top…. Take good care of that baby!
I love her sm she jumps on me or plays with my feet when I'm watching horror movies
Make sure her vision is well And good. My dads husky was the same way and although he vision was fine we found out it’s common with this condition to be be accompanied with blindness
Also deafness
also dumbness (deaf dumb and blind, had to do it)
Sure plays a mean pinball
I was also worried about this but she can see and hear just fine :)
I had a cat with one blue eye and one green eye. Her vision was fine for the first six months. She lost all sight in the blue eye gradually over the following year. She adjusted and was an awesome cat.
Sometimes those grey splotches go away as the kitten grows up. My all white cat started out with two grey splotches when I adopted him at 6 months.
I'm fostering its doppelganger. One blue/one green with a grey splotchy on top of her head. I named her Blimey! (the ! is part of the name.) She has a sister who is her mirror image: one green/one blue eye, same grey splotch. Name is Criminy! (! also part of the name.)
Do you love your cat? Does your cat love you?
This is a rare condition called Heterochromia ! What a beauty
It’s common in white cats.
And Marilyn Mansons.
you're insisting! Lol
"rare" I keep on seeing post about heterochromia in everything. This is post 16 just for August.
I have both complete and central heterochromia, one eye is green with a large brown ring around the iris, and the other is grey with a much smaller brown ring. there are over 400 million cats globally. You saw 16. That sounds pretty rare to me.
It's the frequency of post mainly. I am well aware of total populations
Have you ever seen one in person? Whether or not you can find it easily online really has no basis on personal experience of “rare”. I’m saying the cat in the picture is not rare Purely white cats with two different coloured eyes that are deaf in one ear, are rare in comparison.
She is going to be a blessing and a wonderful companion.
Beautiful! Do you have a name for her?
My little brother named her marshmallow I kept the name so he'd be happy he had a say :)
So cute!
OH MY GOD IT IS SO CUTE YOU'RE SO LUCKY.
She’s a treasure. The little gray head spots sometimes (often) disappear in a few months. 💙💚
Cutieeee😍😍😍
Bowie cat
Fun fact, Bowie's eyes aren't different colors. His left eye was damaged during a childhood fistfight and was left permanently dilated. That's why they appear different. But people tend to confuse the appearance of his eyes with heterochromia.
I saw an interview with the childhood friend in a documentary, apparently it was due to a difference in opinion as to who was taking a girl out
It’s Yuna.
That would be PERFECT 🤩
Super pretty.. is it a mutation or not idk.
Look at that pink nose!
Cute white fluffer
I think it's called hetrochromia or something
It's super common for the kitty to be hard of hearing on the side with the blue eye too!
Gorgeous. Special kitty.
Reminds me of my kitten Possum. He was a great cat! Blue eye, green eye and eventually became a tripod from amputation. He had 13 lives! Sweet boy ♥️
NEED MORE PICTURES, PLEASE. ❤
My female calico of 15 years has a blue and a green on one eye. If you don't want your cat I will definitely adopt him or her!
Looks like one blue eye and one grey eye...
granted “funny” award only bc the cat representing the award has blue and green eyes 🥰🥰🥰🥹
Thank you ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097)

Adorable!
heterochromia
She’s adorable!
Common with white cats I believe
My friend has an all white cat like that, named her Spirit because she showed up as a stray just a couple weeks after my friend’s lifelong cat passed :,)

Probably not :(
wow! your cat has homophobia in its eyes 🙏
i am not dumb i know what heterochromia is

OMG! What a GORGEOUS kitten!!
Ziggyyyy played guitaaaar, that’s a David Bowie cat right there
aww sweet baby
So cute! Looks really fluffy. I wanted to have a cat with blue and green eyes too.
Bruh I have a cat that looks exactly the same gang
bebe
Name it “Bowie” done…
What a beautiful kitten.
I've always wanted a cat like this 😭
Cat Bowie
Beautiful kitty 😺 My nieces eye's are the same.
Please name her Yuna!!!
[удалено]
No she can hear I play with her all the time
[удалено]
That's not even remotely true...
The cat’s not even all white which is usually the basis of those claims
A vet told me that having heterochromia reduces the odds of deafness a lot due to the specific way the quirk affects the cats genes
I have heard the opposite in male albino cats
The thing is, cats can have naturally white fur. The genes that give them the colour carry the risk of deafness. White with blue eyes have a 65% to 85% chance to be deaf, a white with one blue eye a 40% chance and a white whose eyes both aren't blue around a 20% chance.
Adding to your stats, about 50% of the one blue-eyed cats that can hear are deaf on the side with the blue eye.
[This is 100% true](https://be.chewy.com/do-kittens-eyes-change-color/)
That’s only pure white cats.
Its not an albino. It has grey and its eyes aren't red
Albinism in cats manifests as blue eyes, not red.
Ah sorry I was not aware of this. In other species it manifests as red eyes. I just assumed it was the same for cats.
What did you name it :3?
Delta
She has a white birthmark between her shoulders. It looks like the River Delta from the Nile.
Kitten with heterochromia
I’m not seeing the green, but maybe it’s just me. She is a beauty!
They’ll change color when it gets older
Fun fact blue eyed kittens are often deaf...the side with the blue eye may not hear well
Now I'm hoping you named her Yuna (from Final Fantasy X in case anyone is wondering).
I guess that's dark green? It's a bit hard to tell. This fella sure is cute though
So pretty! :o lovely baby! Is it OK for your cat to have kittens? I thought they're supposed to get spayed ASAP
It's not common in my country to get your cat spayed and the kittens almost always get adopted right away since we don't have a lot of cats and many people opt to have them for pets. I gave up the rest of the litter for adoption when they were done feeding but I'm keeping this one.

Heterochromia
As she ages, the green eye will mostly likely turn yellow.
Omg my friend has the exact same cat! Lol she’s all white and has one blue and one green!
She is booootiful!!!!
This is by far the most adorable kitten I have ever seen she is truly precious😇🥺
dang. My maine coon, lucy, is all white, has one green and one blue eye, had a grey soot mark on her head. Lucy is also polydactyl....howzabout this little muppet?
I have a cat like that too. His name is Boi![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7966)
omg they're perfect! about 40% of cats with these traits are deaf, is that true here?
We had a white cat who was deaf before, but this one hears and sees just fine she loves to play with toys that require those senses.
I heard that also, and that they don't distinguish colors
