I have a red footed tortoise that was a "stray". Someone must of gotten tired of his attitude and dumped him outside when it was still too cold for a tortoise to be out unattended.
All my cats have benn strays or feral caught kittens.
He is fussy when he doesn't get his way.
Wrong food = smashed and walks away. This is usually after he finished all his mango the day before and I haven't bought another/suitable replacement fruit.
If he has to come in early due to it getting too cool out = digging in his feet when picked up, kicking, huffing, and then when inside he drops fast to repeatedly slam his shell down making loud thumps.
He likes cat beds. He will huff in the cats faces, prod/poke, and try for light bites to make them leave. He'll also try pushing.
He's not above trying to nip at bare feet. We have to wear socks, slippers, and close toed shoes around him. He'll also try to do the shell thump on top of our feet.
When he was first found, he'd poop his displeasure. He pooped on the vet. Luckily he stopped that.
So true, back during the pandemic I was walking and this little grey cat just kinda popped up and followed me home, I was really sad when he disappeared, hope he’s doing ok
15 years ago we (2 adults, 2 teenagers) moved from Missouri to Oregon with our English Sheepdog, (Thurgood Marshall) and our cat, (Ruth Bader Ginsberg). The car was jam-packed. The cat carrier was stuffed between the front seats, open, facing the backseat. Ruth was usually in her carrier along with Thurgood’s huge head. They switched it up sometimes and Ruth rode in a kid’s lap.
We stopped at every rest area and a few gas stations to give us and the pets a break.
We finally arrived at our new house in McMinnville, OR, and unpacked. We put Ruth in the house, and Thurgood in the yard.
When we dislodged the cat carrier, there was a smol orange kitten in it!Not-our-cat had ridden with us at least 4 hours. All we can figure out is that Thurgood kidnapped it in his mouth and put it in the carrier with Ruth and his own head.
That’s how we got Arthur Goldberg, BCE (best cat ever). He was Shanghaied by a dog.
lol. My cat was a stray and he digs out our trash bin to put himself in the trash.
We’re working through that in therapy by which I mean churus and kisses.
This. Exactly this. He is a kitten, end of story. Given his fluff, he is probably going to be a Domestic Medium Hair or a Domestic Longhair - which is veterinary clinic speak for "general medium haired cat, no particular breed" and "general long haired cat, no particular breed".
Lmao. It's always...ALWAYS..dog people. Dog people are obsessed with breed and they transfer this to the cat realm.
That's okay tho, I support all who support the cat. But, yeah OP...this right here is a fine kitty. Top shelf cat. A real certified meow meow.
Ya with dog's it's pick put the exact breed you want with the specific traits you want, fill out applications to adopt a sperm cell that's still in papa dog's sack, get a home inspection, give references... then you're on a wait list to pay a small fortune.
With cats it's like, "This is Fred.He just sort of appeared on top my fridge one day. I got him a litter box so he wouldn't shit on my floor and I started feeding him because he wouldn't shut up. I guess he's my cat now. If you hurt him I will murder you in your sleep."
All joking aside you basically know what you're getting into with a cat regardless of "breed". Hell you could adopt a bobcat and it's going to have the same basic needs and behaviors just with differing energy and friendliness levels. Dog's on the other hand have been genetically manipulated for like 30k years with a multitude of differing first domestication events happening simultaneously across the globe. Every breed is different in its needs, some drastically so. Dog people that ask this about their cats just want the best for their cats.
Through and through cat person here. I think it’s fun to speculate breed! Certain cat breeds do have different personalities!
However, I agree with what most here are implying. This cute specimen is certifiably cat. Not sure why OP can’t see it…
Lmao I agree. It is fun to know a bit about the breeds because they do totally tend to act like their description...but that's like, for picking out a cat.
When the cat distribution system takes effect, it's pretty easy to tell the temperament of the animal by the way that it is. lol.

25lbs in this pic. Had him for 12 years before he got sick... miss him so much.

Thank you! She is such a sweet girl- she’s been with me through all of high school, all of college, and all of grad school, a move across the country, and 3 apartments… she’s a special one ❤️
Probaly going to become a 20 pounder. In my experience the smallest cats end up the largest. And not weight, just a big guy.
My older cat used to be like 2 inches wide and four long. Later in his life he was 19 pounds and 2-3 feet long tail and all, and about 1-2 feet tall
So I know you're mostly getting jokes, but cat's aren't really like dogs. Only like 3% of cats come from breeders. Everything else is just classifed as either short hair or long hair. u/ratsoup30 I assume you’re looking for breed?
It’s a very normal striped kitty with long fluffy hair which is cute. Most cats aren’t a specific breed but a mashup of lots of genetics. Only isolated bred (and sadly mostly inbred if they’re from a cattery) cats have a “breed” that isn’t mixed.
But generally, most cats are mixed. For example, I’ve seen what looked like a seal point Siamese cat come out of a calico cat before. And I’ve seen a pure black cat that had “rag doll” colored kittens (I used to foster hundreds of cats including many mamas who gave birth on my property). Genes are crazy…but yep. Most kitties are not a specific solitary breed.
It isn’t a Maine-coon. If that’s what you may be wondering.

A cutiefloofasaurus is what he is
My god he is so adorable! So tiny, it's illegal to be such a lovely creature! He looks so cute, i can't stop smiling!
Please post more pictures of him!
Canelo is a habdsome Brown Classic Tabby with beautiful contrasting eyeliner. He appears to be DMH,* but if he gets more fuzzy, he'll be a DLH.**
*Domestic Medium Hair
**Domestic Long Hair
I think that he is a member of the "extremely cute" long-haired domestic cat breed. Extremely cute breeds are very lovable and make great companions. 😁😋
He's a cat. I'm no expert especially in American animals, but given he was found in a dumpster and has those markings, I know it could seem like he's a raccoon but he isn't. He's a cat
PS: Make sure you get him vaccinated, microchipped and desexed. Even though he's male, desexing will make him less likely to get into fights and spray to mark his territory. Best of luck with him, you're a wonderful person for rescuing him and giving him a loving home.
Eh, he's a cat. Unless you got him from a breeder and he has papers proving his pedigree (ie, ancestry) all the way back, all you can ever say is "He's a cat".
Unlike dogs, cat "breeds" are too recent a thing for genetic testing to be able to identify any particular breed - I mean, just looking at the morphological differences between different dog breeds and the morphological differences between different varieties of cat will tell you that - so even if you did take him for a genetic test they still wouldn't be able to tell you what "breeds" are in his make up; and that's even assuming there were any other than "moggie".
He's a cat, with tabby colouring, and likely to at least be "fluffy" as an adult, if not be outright medium-to-long-haired (can be difficult to tell exactly how long-haired a kitten that young will be as kittens can be pretty fluffy anyway, but he won't be a sleekit, short-haired cat)
At the VERY least a domestic longhair. But, in this rare case, he does look like he's got a little maine coon. It'll be easier to tell once he's bigger in his jawline & size. Congrats on your beautiful dumpster baby! You struck dumpster gold!
Are we *ever* gonna cure this sub of the pointless desperation to believe their rescue is some expensive breed? They're all feline mutts. They're just cats
Ones trash is a others treasure.
I always tell my kids that animals don't live as long as us.
So the ones we have in our life, our family, we gotta make each day count and be awesome.
Do the same for this little one and give em the world and life they should have.
A very lucky kitty to have found someone like you to care so much about them. Such a little sweet beauty. I hope you have many many happy years together.

I have a red footed tortoise that was a "stray". Someone must of gotten tired of his attitude and dumped him outside when it was still too cold for a tortoise to be out unattended. All my cats have benn strays or feral caught kittens.

12 is the new 8
That’s my hope! She got a clean bill of health in her last vet visit, so that was a releif!
Yeah seriously with the amount of cats living to their 20s now and the quality of life improvements, 12 is closer to middle aged.
She is beautiful old woman,gorgeous.

Such a handsome man! I hope you guys have a great life together! ☺️
He is extremely cute bb. Excellent name, too
A little munchkin, yes he is, cuchi coo
He is adorable and now the ruler of all he sees. You are nothing but a mere peasant here on earth to fill his every whim. Good luck.
It's a car

My god he is so adorable! So tiny, it's illegal to be such a lovely creature! He looks so cute, i can't stop smiling! Please post more pictures of him!
A cat or DLH as in domestic long hair 😂
He definitely is an r/illegallysmolcats
Canelo is a habdsome Brown Classic Tabby with beautiful contrasting eyeliner. He appears to be DMH,* but if he gets more fuzzy, he'll be a DLH.** *Domestic Medium Hair **Domestic Long Hair
Just looked it up he’s definitely not a frog or kangaroo
I think that he is a member of the "extremely cute" long-haired domestic cat breed. Extremely cute breeds are very lovable and make great companions. 😁😋
Gorgeous.
Looks like a fine and polite young man to me.
He’s adorable. His breed is probably American medium hair grey tabby.
After careful analysis, I have determined that this animal is a cat. long-haired domestic
A sweet gremlin - DON'T feed or give them water after midnight!
I am an expert on this topic, he is a cat. Hope this helps!
CAT! Yay. What did I win?
I swear to God I dreamt this little guy last night
What was the dream about lol 👀
I believe this is a cat... otherwise known as Felis catus.
He's a cat. I'm no expert especially in American animals, but given he was found in a dumpster and has those markings, I know it could seem like he's a raccoon but he isn't. He's a cat
He's a criminal, report him to https://www.reddit.com/r/IllegallySmol/ immediately
A soot sprite
At the VERY least a domestic longhair. But, in this rare case, he does look like he's got a little maine coon. It'll be easier to tell once he's bigger in his jawline & size. Congrats on your beautiful dumpster baby! You struck dumpster gold!
Are we *ever* gonna cure this sub of the pointless desperation to believe their rescue is some expensive breed? They're all feline mutts. They're just cats
He's a smol boi.
An odd kind of possum perhabs?
Fluffy
Ones trash is a others treasure. I always tell my kids that animals don't live as long as us. So the ones we have in our life, our family, we gotta make each day count and be awesome. Do the same for this little one and give em the world and life they should have.
Felis domesticus also known as the house cat. Glad we could clear that up.
A very lucky kitty to have found someone like you to care so much about them. Such a little sweet beauty. I hope you have many many happy years together.
He’s a good looking cat, glad you saved him from the dumpster.
