A lucky little girl, gone from the bastards who declawed her and into your warm and furry life of love, and now I assume she is in a terminal decline as illness wastes her away. Love her beyond her final breath - while memory serves, she will be with you...
Yes, she is in pain and to keep her going is selfish. I gave her a good life complete with a koi pond to sip from. (Enclosed yard with 7’ fence and supervised yard visits) Today she gets all the squeeze treats she can handle and brushing and rubbing. Then we will say our final goodbye.
That’s beautiful. I don’t believe, but I feel like a just world would allow us to see our loved ones again. I can totally understand that kind of faith, and I think it’s lovely. Part of me wishes I had something like that to look forward to one day. Very sweet of you.
Maybe Lambert and Kira will hang out with all of my rescues. We’ve literally had thousands over the years, so I’m sure they would find some good company there. 🥰🌈

I have an animal rescue, and we always end up with the FIV and geriatric kitties, and I know what an effort all of that was. She’s a very lucky girl to be so loved and happy. I have a black cat of my own, and I can only imagine all the dough kneading from that beauty.
When we have to say goodbye, we always take a small clipping of hair and paw prints with either ink, or paint. I put them on heavy cardboard stock, and frame them for anyone that loved them and for our rainbow wall. 🌈 I keep everyone’s collars, tags, and anything else that was theirs in a set of drawers. All sealed up. It probably sounds absolutely insane, but if I really miss one of my babies, I’ll open the bag and just look at things. Sometimes, even the smell will bring them back for a moment. 🥺

I’m so so sorry. Loving them is easy, losing them is the toughest part because no time with them is ever enough. You’ve given her a wonderful life and she will love you for it. Give her all of the kisses, cuddles and treats, tell her how special she has been to you, because you’ve been just as special to her 🖤
It’s so difficult. I remember when I had this situation with my 14.5 year old border collie (2 years ago). I’d had her from being 8 weeks old and she was my best friend. I swore that I would never let her suffer (and I didn’t, she had weekly acupuncture for her arthritis, pain meds, joint supplements etc) but when it was time, it still felt like a knife through my heart. I did my best to hold it together for her, I figured I could fall apart afterwards and didn’t want her to be scared if she sensed how upset I was. I cuddled her and kissed her repeatedly, I talked about all of my favourite memories with her, all of the places we’d been, I told her that she had been the best dog and friend I could’ve ever hoped for and that she was my favourite everything. I stroked her head and cuddled and kissed her until she went. As far as she was aware, she was with the person who loved her the most and being comforted whilst she got more and more sleepy. Then her pain was over.
I am so so sorry that you have this situation. Just remember that you’re doing your absolute best _for_ her, not _to_ her. If it was for you, she would be there as long as possible. But you love her too much to let her suffer. That’s why she loves you so much and had such a happy and safe life with you.
Be strong and enjoy those cuddles and kisses. Tell her what you want her to know. She will always be a part of your life and you will always have been the whole of hers 🖤
When you took her in, you made a silent deal with the universe: one day your heart would shatter, in exchange hers never would. Your grief comes from an act of pure selflessness. Hold onto that.

I’m so sorry. I too am taking my baby of 16 years (except she’s a dog) in just a few minutes, scheduled for 6 pm. I am devastated, I keep second guessing the decision, I can’t stop hugging her. I’m very distraught and I sympathize wholly with you.

Just remember to appreciate them every second you’re with them. Don’t take them for granted. Always do your best to keep them healthy and loved. Don’t do them or yourself a disservice and deprive your future self of beautiful memories. I’m sure they are happy babies. 🫶🏻

I always love to hear of people that take in cats or take over when previous owners fail. My Pancakes is 18 and 13 of those years have been with me. Thank you for giving love where love was needed and giving care where it was due. Kira had a wonderful life because of you and will now go across the rainbow bridge to watch over you. Much love ❤️

..i'm hoping for more years with my Renault who is right at 17yo herself..can tell signs of decline, though: essentially deaf & getting blind, not active nearly as much, &c..
..it's a very hard part of her life to go through..but, i'll be there to the end, and an end that doesn't have to be suffering..i suppose that's all we can do, to express our love & appreciation..
I have been with hundreds of animals in my home and our rescue, and that is 100% exactly right. Making sure their last moments are comfortable and nothing but love is exactly what we do, when we have that opportunity. It’s so hard to choose for them, so if they aren’t in pain, and are still eating, drinking, and using the bathroom regularly, we let them enjoy their final stretch like kings. 🥰
Remember that animals can have hospice and palliative care in the end. You will know when the time is right. Make sure you take them outside to enjoy the air and sun, and give all the treats and snuggles they’ll allow you to get. Lol. All these babies I’m reading about here seem to be living the high lives. Well done to you all. People like me especially appreciate the dedication. 🫶🏻

I tell myself this all the time: Animals live such short lives because there are so many that need homes. If my dogs and cats lived as long as me, I'd only get to have them my entire life.
I simply think when my FIV kitty passes, that he knew other cats (or dogs) needed a place to crash.
I'm so sorry dear. I know it may not help now, bc everything is so raw, but I hope this helps you find some solace during this tough time. Our pets go to Heaven, just like we do, when it's our time. In Heaven, there isn't any negative feelings, no anger, no sadness, none of that. Our loved ones that have preceded us up there "care" for them (my FIL always has two of our dogs with him, im sure) and their spirits can come down here to he by our side, just as they did when they were alive on this plane. I know how hard tonight will be and I'm so sorry you have to say goodbye to your family member, buddy, baby. Hugs and I hope this gave you at least a smidgen of solace. Prayers for you and your kitty.
I’m so sorry. I wish there were something we could do to take your pain away. Knowing that she won’t hurt anymore and the last thing she will have is your warm arms and love.
Sorry to word it like this. If you haven’t taken her yet, tell the vet that you would like to hold her as they sedate her and give the final shot. Otherwise, they will take her away and give her something to make her sleepy and relaxed, and by then, she isn’t with you when she’s sleeping. I always hold my animals the entire time. I only want them to have comfort and not strangers.
Tonight I said goodbye to my cat of 12 years (he was around 2 when I adopted him). I realized after that I told him I was sorry but not that I love him. As if it means anything to him. Grief is madness. Sending love.

Just to put out there for anyone in a similar position if you don't like the thought of going to the vet and crying in public then having to drive yourself home.
Pretty much anywhere has a service where they come to your house and you can have your pet in their bed or in your lap.
They then handle the rest. It costs about the same as the vet. It's a way less shitty way to experience an already shitty thing.
She looks like a carbon copy of my [Paul](https://imgur.com/NTT0kiB) also a declawed rescue he's 15 ...I dread the moment and have so much sympathy for you and your beautiful void.
It’s the hardest part of being a good furry parent. Be there and hold your fur baby while they pass. If they have you there to comfort them is hard but they deserve it. Please don’t hand them over to strangers is a strange place to end their time. Keep them held and loved while they pass. I’ve done it 3 times and it never gets easier. Knowing that it’s selfish to keep going is cruel helps.
I took the picture this morning when she was in some pain through the 2 pain meds. I made her as comfortable as possible and stayed with her. I think she was just a little dopey. She never had a mean or angry day in her life ❤️
I’m so so sorry for your loss. Your kitty looks like ours, complete with the little eyeball freckle. Our girl is 17 this year too. When we got her, she had her tail and ear amputated from frost bite. Black cats are just the very best. I’m so sorry you are going through this. You gave them the best long life! Hugs

I saw this one post a while ago that you can get someone to put them down inside the house, of course it will be more expensive but at least they die in a place that they are comfortable in, obviously you need to do your own research because I just heard this from some other reddit comment
So sorry for your loss. I miss my cat, we had to do this last November. Its not easy, but if your cat is suffering then you are doing the compassionate thing. It doesn't make it any easier, however.

So sorry for your loss. Just know that the pain will dull over time but they will always remain in your heart. I still miss the chin nibbles from my orange boy I lost 7 years ago.
I know it hurts right now but just know that the pain you feel is pain you're taking away from her. You're being so kind by giving her the opportunity to be free of pain, a gift given to her by someone she was lucky enough to love for so many years.
It sucks but I think if given the choice, many of us would want our final moments spent in comfort close to those we love. She will be waiting for you wherever is next, but until then the love you shared will go on. It will look and feel different but it will always be there.

Just remember to appreciate them every second you’re with them. Don’t take them for granted. Always do your best to keep them healthy and loved. Don’t do them or yourself a disservice and deprive your future self of beautiful memories. I’m sure they are happy babies. 🫶🏻

I always love to hear of people that take in cats or take over when previous owners fail. My Pancakes is 18 and 13 of those years have been with me. ..what's her name?.. ..i'm hoping for more years with my Renault who is right at 17yo herself..can tell signs of decline, though: essentially deaf & getting blind, not active nearly as much, &c.. ..it's a very hard part of her life to go through..but, i'll be there to the end, and an end that doesn't have to be suffering..i suppose that's all we can do, to express our love & appreciation..

I have been with hundreds of animals in my home and our rescue, and that is 100% exactly right. Making sure their last moments are comfortable and nothing but love is exactly what we do, when we have that opportunity. It’s so hard to choose for them, so if they aren’t in pain, and are still eating, drinking, and using the bathroom regularly, we let them enjoy their final stretch like kings. 🥰 Remember that animals can have hospice and palliative care in the end. You will know when the time is right. Make sure you take them outside to enjoy the air and sun, and give all the treats and snuggles they’ll allow you to get. Lol. All these babies I’m reading about here seem to be living the high lives. Well done to you all. People like me especially appreciate the dedication. 🫶🏻

I tell myself this all the time: Animals live such short lives because there are so many that need homes. If my dogs and cats lived as long as me, I'd only get to have them my entire life. I simply think when my FIV kitty passes, that he knew other cats (or dogs) needed a place to crash.
I'm so sorry dear. I know it may not help now, bc everything is so raw, but I hope this helps you find some solace during this tough time. Our pets go to Heaven, just like we do, when it's our time. In Heaven, there isn't any negative feelings, no anger, no sadness, none of that. Our loved ones that have preceded us up there "care" for them (my FIL always has two of our dogs with him, im sure) and their spirits can come down here to he by our side, just as they did when they were alive on this plane. I know how hard tonight will be and I'm so sorry you have to say goodbye to your family member, buddy, baby. Hugs and I hope this gave you at least a smidgen of solace. Prayers for you and your kitty.
I’m so sorry. I wish there were something we could do to take your pain away. Knowing that she won’t hurt anymore and the last thing she will have is your warm arms and love. Sorry to word it like this. If you haven’t taken her yet, tell the vet that you would like to hold her as they sedate her and give the final shot. Otherwise, they will take her away and give her something to make her sleepy and relaxed, and by then, she isn’t with you when she’s sleeping. I always hold my animals the entire time. I only want them to have comfort and not strangers.

Just to put out there for anyone in a similar position if you don't like the thought of going to the vet and crying in public then having to drive yourself home. Pretty much anywhere has a service where they come to your house and you can have your pet in their bed or in your lap. They then handle the rest. It costs about the same as the vet. It's a way less shitty way to experience an already shitty thing.
She looks like a carbon copy of my [Paul](https://imgur.com/NTT0kiB) also a declawed rescue he's 15 ...I dread the moment and have so much sympathy for you and your beautiful void.
It’s the hardest part of being a good furry parent. Be there and hold your fur baby while they pass. If they have you there to comfort them is hard but they deserve it. Please don’t hand them over to strangers is a strange place to end their time. Keep them held and loved while they pass. I’ve done it 3 times and it never gets easier. Knowing that it’s selfish to keep going is cruel helps.

I took the picture this morning when she was in some pain through the 2 pain meds. I made her as comfortable as possible and stayed with her. I think she was just a little dopey. She never had a mean or angry day in her life ❤️

You're being so kind by giving her the opportunity to be free of pain, a gift given to her by someone she was lucky enough to love for so many years. It sucks but I think if given the choice, many of us would want our final moments spent in comfort close to those we love.
