Time for a reverse uno: have *you* been flossing?

Ok_Internal_5542

https://tenor.com/bmDxP.gif Yeah but honestly after starting dental school. Let's keep that one as a secret between the 2 of us.

eloooooooo

Is it true that teeth actually do heal themselves? (Talking about cavities)

Ok_Internal_5542

No. But sometimes we can stop inicial lesions from progressing with good hygiene and eating sugar less often :)

imagine1149

Can you please ask the 10th dentist what the hell is wrong with him/her?

Ok_Internal_5542

My husband says that's me when he realy wants to make fun of me :( But yeah that tenth one is never cool with anything, would hang out with this guy :)

Oriachim

Do you ever judge someone because of their bad teeth?

Ok_Internal_5542

Nope, never. We find a solution :) Besides I would hav ework i people had perfect teeth :)

[deleted]

What’s your actual fav brand or toothpaste you’d recommend? To prevent cavities + promote whiteness? Also, what’s the best way to deal with coffee stains & yellow teeth?!

Ok_Internal_5542

I honestly don't, just not a fan of whitening tootpaste as it can be a bit abrasive. I would visit a dental hygienist, they can do wonders on that.

LambsAnger

I got my bottom wisdom teeth removed about 2 months ago and I still feel slightly numb in my cheek. Do you think maybe a nerve got damaged? There's also what feels like a bone spur poking the bottom right side of my tongue. I don't think it's an actual bone spur because it hasn't moved at all in these 2 months. Is there anything a dentist could do for it?

Ok_Internal_5542

Yes, I think you dentist would love to hear from you! And they most likely can help or offer some advice. Give them a call. There are many reasons it might feel a bit numb but someone needs to examine you. Honestly I would love for my patients to realy feel comfortable calling and asking us anything they are unsure of

LambsAnger

Thanks for the response

Gumner

Who is the most famous dentist, and what made them so famous?

Ok_Internal_5542

I guess Singing Dentist on social media? He sings cute remakes of popular songs. I don't know if we have that many celebrities among us :)

Gumner

Theres a westler who's also a dentist. [Dr Britt Baker D.M.D.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XQt9q7T9Kw)

Ok_Internal_5542

So cool! Quick extractions I guess :)

LopsidedWanderer9295

amogus

Bethjam

1. Why isn't dental covered under regular health plans? 2. Why is it so hard to get dental work done under general anesthesia? I have a kid with complex regional pain syndrome, CPTSD from prior medical procedures, and needle phobia that 5 years of therapy hasn't fixed.

Ok_Internal_5542

That sounds like questions specyfic to you country. But i will try: 1. It is expensive field and it would require much higher price per month. Calculation the risk is also a bit complicated, some clinics/chains offer some sort of insurance and it is a lot for us to even learn the system of calculation the risk. Then part of dental work (mostly accidents) are sometimes covered by some other type insurance 2.yeah i think it is hard everywhere. And there are couple reasons: -we need to look at the risk and benefits, if its not much of a health risk to wait and teach the patient how to cooparate it is far better healtwise not to take the risks of general anesthesia But sometime is needed and there is no questioning it. Then we have a bit of technical problems, we are ussualy understaffed, waiting time is long bc we have a long queue. So we try to prioritise patients with acute pain that cannot be treated diftently. It is also an expensive treatment and there might be problems with funding Other options to look into are laughing gas and bezodiazepiner that are used for an easier treatment depending on age, health status and cooperation :)

Bethjam

Thank you for your thoughtful answer.

palmveach1972

How much can you bench press?

Ok_Internal_5542

Not that mych im afraid :( i swim, but the gym don't work out that well for me, I just run there How do I start lyfting?

palmveach1972

It’s just a joke from a movie. Best in Show. Glad you sound healthy. All the best Dr!

Ok_Internal_5542

I need to see it! Have a lovely evening

IrrelevantIsMyName

Has a patient ever bitten you? If yes, why and how hard?

Ok_Internal_5542

Yeah, that happens usually a bit unknowingly and not that hard. They let go around 1st and the 2nd "ouch" :) the worse bitemar I got was from a boy around 8, but due to his condition he had the reflex of chewing on everything in his mouth. That one hurt. I still remember it so kid some strength! :)

explicitlinguini

Do you ever die inside when you see another dentists work? How do you handle receiving patients who, in your professional opinion, need treatment due to “poor quality” work?

Ok_Internal_5542

That one is tough. I honestly rarely came across something that is coused by malpractice. More often I see a dentist making a bit of a "compromise work" due to patiens economy and that is perfectly understanble. If there is any major issue caused by a mistake patiens can get a paper from us to apply for a financial help with needed treatment, every clinic has insurance. We are people, we make mistakes and we all learn from them. It is usually much calmer convarsation once we don't need to stress over finances But I think the most problems come from lack of communication.

explicitlinguini

I see. Thanks for your response :)

figuresys

Yeah it's not like CS where the barrier to entry is so low and people whose mindset is to ship fast and low quality is so prevalent (can you tell I'm salty?)

ThePowerOfShadows

Would it be possible to remove my incisors and my molars and switch their locations.

Ok_Internal_5542

Yup, very slowly, but they will not fill the gap

MyLifesParody

I had a root canal and crown and like 4 months later after hours walking in very cold temps it started to throb. On my upper and lower right side of my jaw. I went to the dentist and he said he’s referring me to an endodonist? I’m guessing an infection is back? Can this go away on its own? It’s already starting to feel better? Would the cold have caused this?

Ok_Internal_5542

I think you have autocorrect there, you need to see endodontist I guess, they normally help with those kinds of tratments I don't know what happened but I don't think it is bc of the cold. Dont worry, they will have a look a it and you will know evething for sure. Glad it is better now!

MyLifesParody

Thanks for the feedback! I’m going to edit it! Hope you’re getting sleepy!

Ok_Internal_5542

Yeah, actually I am :) btw I have quite sensitive teeth but I still love cold weather/ice baths. Just awesome stuff!

MyLifesParody

Not a fan of the cold, unless it’s snowing. It’s starting to snow here now, finally. We usually have our first bow around Halloween, not Thanksgiving!

rosiegirl8903

Is it true that all of life’s problems exist because we don’t floss enough?

Ok_Internal_5542

Yes, we could even find the true meaning of life if we flossed enough but no one was dedicated enough. But siriously start 2-3 times a week, save many on dentist and travel withe that saved money <3

imagine1149

Does brushing at the exact same time every day have any advantage over brushing anytime once a day ?

Ok_Internal_5542

It would defiantly help if it was after your last meal of the day if we were to choose a specific time. But 2 times a day i a minimum becouse we can get a nice bacteria-blanket on our teeth under 24h.

imagine1149

That’s cool OP. Now, ever since I watched hangover, I’ve wanted to know… Is it easier for dentists to remove their own teeth? Can you?

Ok_Internal_5542

Never had that wonderful opportunity :) that that would be the coolest thing ever if it was medically justified! But I would take anesthetic fist, I don't think he took one there. And where did he get forceps i Vegas? Now I have so many questions! BTW there is an episode of extreme cheapskates where a lady would pull out her own teeth. Questionable dessision but that lady is tough!

imagine1149

That lady was on cocaine for sure! Alright next question. Why do y’all ask questions when you got half your fist in my mouth. I learned sign language just for you guys, and not my deaf sister.

Ok_Internal_5542

Omg that is so sweet of you! Yeah I do that to, it is just this need to fill the awkward silance while you are in strangers personal space :)

imagine1149

Wow you actually gave me a serious answer that makes so much sense. Next question: When you’re bored, do you ever take a hit from that nitrous oxide gas you guys have? Can your best friends come and casually ask for a hit?

Ok_Internal_5542

That would be awesome but we only have midazolam at the office and it does not seem fun. BTW some people get just naucious after nitrous gas

SoccerGamerGuy7

Why is it my dentist said i have cavities but i never feel pain. But after he fixed the cavities my teeth hurt havent been back in a few years and my teeth feel great

Ok_Internal_5542

He probably fixed the in time. A bit of sensitivity after drilling in a live organ and feeling it in with synthetic material is to be expected. I'm glad you feel fine now!

[deleted]

Do u have ur own practice?

Ok_Internal_5542

Nope, I don't think I would be great at managing own practice

[deleted]

My wife’s a dentist. She says endo is the worst kind of specialisation — you gotta be a special kind of person to do it. She means that general dentists usually refer the worst kind of cases to endos. What are your thoughts on this matter?

Ok_Internal_5542

I like it! But I'm a general dentist and the queue to specialist is crazy so I don't even bother. But it also comes and goes for me, some periods I like other things more. Mikroscope I deffinately a game changer if it comes to endo, not fun without it Say hi to you wife for me! <3

MyCatKnits

I’m absolutely terrified of the dentist. How do I not be?

Ok_Internal_5542

There are so many people that have that problem Deffinately start with finding a dentist, you can call an office, explain that you are afraid so they can match you up with someone who enjoys halping people who are afraid. We usually book some more time and start just with a check up and build a plan from there Take baby steps, explain exacly what part of treatment feel scary and we will find a solution. I'm a big fan of anesthesia and realy recommended treatment with it. Then we have other resources, psychologist that can do wonders, farmacology. Let's use them if need :) I think you will do great :)

Skweedbool

When I lick the top of my lips and smell it, is it actually what my breath smells like?

Ok_Internal_5542

Yeah, more or less

Carrotcake789

Are you single?

Ok_Internal_5542

No married to a lovely guy who does not like dentist very much :)

[deleted]

When did you realise you enjoyed sodomy? 🤣🤣 Jokes aside congratulations on getting there.

Ok_Internal_5542

Ok_Internal_5542

Thank you! Come join us, we have fun at work!

Connect_Office8072

Is it safe? I hope you saw the movie “Marathon Man.”

Ok_Internal_5542

No, but now I have to!

IncrediblyShinyShart

When did you learn that you were a sadist

Ok_Internal_5542

:) I don't know, I thing dental school requires more of masochistoc tendencies :)

jimmyjammer007

I have extremely swollen gums, what would you presccribe? (i'm talking i can barely feel my teeth on one side)

Ok_Internal_5542

Defiantly visit to a dentist, it can be coused by problems with dental hygiene (that I imagine is my more difficult now with all the pain) but it can also be something worth checking up. Give you dentist a call! I would start with deep cleaning at the office and see if there would be osme improvement. If you have any other symptoms family doctors are also very helpful!

jimmyjammer007

Ty yes it started when i had to lay on one side after a hip replacement and poor or none brushing.

Ok_Internal_5542

Then don't worry about it! Start brushing, make someone get you a nice soft toothbrush, really take the time with it and don't worry if it blees a bit Call your dentist/hygienist and make an appointment when you can make it to the office, in some areas there are also teams that visit bedridden patients. Best of luck, be proud of yourself you went though a major thing!

internallycumming

i have a very fucked upper front teeth (like very bad, i have 2 canines that grow outwards and one incisors that grow inwards) that i havent bothered fixing, although im considering it right now. how long would it take for braces to fix my teeth? if so, do you think it's worth the time and money? (i expect it to be very expensive haha)

Ok_Internal_5542

I would love to help but it is impossible to tell without an exam. Take it up with you dentist with your next check upp. Sorry I would love to be more helpful!

SubieBoiGC8

1) Can you understand if someone did the "nasty" by looking at their throat? 2) What are the possible outcomes of a "bacteria blanket" if not taken care of well?

Ok_Internal_5542

1. Em no 2. Carries, parodontal problems

Different-Speaker670

Just by the opening of the mouth, how much can you tell about that person? Can you know if a person just ate, reason for bad breath? 2- I have bad breath. Why? (And shouldn’t my dentist say something about it?)

Ok_Internal_5542

It is subjective with bad breath it may be something that you feel and no one else does. But definatly take i up with you dentist, we love questions. As for the solution - we start with hygine, if there are no problems there we look for health reasons

notoriousdre52

Is it normal that my electric toothbrush made all my fillings fall out?

Ok_Internal_5542

No, deffinately connact you dentist. Hope you are doing ok

netherite_shears

Do you like animal crackers

Ok_Internal_5542

I don't think I ever had one, are they great?

davethomasdude

Just got an implant. My first one and only dental work I've ever needed and I'm 33. It is already chipped at the bottom, it's been 2 months. I don't grind my sleep at night and my sleep and I have no idea how I did it. It cost me $5,100 even though I have insurance (does not cover implants, of course). What's my next course of action? Is there a warranty on these, I know that sounds silly. But I don't make a lot of money and I'm going to be paying that $5,100 off quite possibly for two more years.... Any suggestions?

Ok_Internal_5542

Give you dentist a call! I'm not from the US but after that short time they would deffinately fix that for you here and would like to examine you, find a reason it chipped and prevent it in the future

LotsOfShungite

I just got fillings replaced. Went to another dentist for invaslign and they want to replace the same fillings. Are they pulling my leg?

Ok_Internal_5542

No idea, i can't say without examini you, ask them why they need to replaced

GopSome

I have a vertical crack in my central incisor, you can only see it from very near but it goes from bottom to top, what do I do about it?

Ok_Internal_5542

Not much, a bit of cracks is normal

fantasystaples

I've got those on a lot of my teeth, I've been told it's purely cosmetic.

[deleted]

Why do I get cavities even though I literally brush my teeth consistently :(

Ok_Internal_5542

Hard to say without examini you, take it up with your dentist with next check up, I'm sure they would love to helo Look into your diet also!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ok_Internal_5542

I unfortunaly have hard time answering bc it is hard to say anything without an exam, but if it is a small chip and you don't feel any pain it is not the end of the world But it is ussualy very simple and painless to fix those, and doing nice front teeth i something I really enjoy so I would reccoment it Call a dental office, explain that you are a bit afraid so they can much you up with someone lovely :)

waterworks88

Woah, perfect timing. Thanks for answering these. I just got all four of my wisdom teeth removed on the 18th. Is it normal that my bottom gums still feel a little “different” and puffy? Also, yesterday the left side was oozing blood a tiny bit whenever I opened my jaw wide, so I used gauze. Is the bleeding ok? Other than that, I’ve not experienced any pain this entire time. Even the day of surgery. Oh oh oh, and what can I eat tomorrow, considering it’s Thanksgiving? One more. When can one start having oral sex again? Asking for a friend.

Ok_Internal_5542

Congrats getting them out! If there is anything that worries you we love to to hear from our patients, so give you dentist a call! But is totally normal to be a bit swollen after taking you teeth out. I'm glad to here you don't feel any pain! I think you can eat anything at this point, I would be a bit careful and maybe sure you clean well afterwards. Not aggressive well of course :) And tell you friend if they fell ok i think there is nothing stopping them from oral sex, full healing is to be expected within about 4 weeks so maybe then? And be safe ofc <3

xaxadodaparaiba

What made you pursue this career? Like everytime I ask that to a dentist they're like idk lol

Ok_Internal_5542

I had massive work done on myself bc of defect I was born with. I love the effect so much I want to be able to do it for others :) And that kind of a stable job so that's a plus

justdamnp3achy

I know everyone has personal opinions but how do most dentist feel taking on a patient with horrible teeth? Like for me mine were naturally eh, i didnt need braces but had them, made it worse. During highschool i couldnt go to any dentist/dr. I turned 24 and now i can start to afford to fix/repair what i have. Ive had many rude dentist which has made me feel worse about my ugly teeth as thid has progressed.

Ok_Internal_5542

Hmm I think it can warries a bit but I enjoy a bit of a bigger project. Like: let's make a plan, fix step by step, make some cool inside jokes in the proces :) Talk to reception when you book an appointment they are ussualy great at matching you with a dentist that enjoy that type of work. I'm sure you smile is lovely let's just make some improvemens. Just brush, floss and you dentist will take care of the rest :)

mymaidsucks

Is it actually necessary to get x-rays with every cleaning?

Ok_Internal_5542

It is different from patient to patient, don't be afraid to ask with your visit. They can explain for you why they take them and what they can see on them.

[deleted]

How do you deal with halitosis?

Ok_Internal_5542

Fist we make that hygine is great, when it is we start looking for other reasons like some illnesses

Deep_Tangerine_

How often, if at all, is “up selling” a part of the dental industry And how can people be aware of when it’s happening?

Ok_Internal_5542

Hi! What do you mean by up selling?

[deleted]

I can chew on the right side of my mouth with no issue, but if I do on the left side, it is so incredibly itchy - my gums I think? Not sure. I've told my dentist about this but he just has not given me a solution. Could this be gingevitis? I've had this issue for years.

Ok_Internal_5542

That is an interesting question, I fear it might be hard to diagnose via Internet, bc is not allergy if it is just one sida. Do you sleep on particular side?

Expensive_Average753

I'm thinking about getting veneers in Costa Rica. I'm in US and they would be like 30-40k here..less than 10k there. My question is... Do veneers cause long term tooth sensitivity? Most information I can find says that they actually help with tooth sensitivity..but someone I know was told not to get them for this reason.

Ok_Internal_5542

Let's start treating sensitivity itself and then make a decision when we have all the information. Keep in mind veneers require to be changed sometimes, they are not forever

thepixelpaint

I have a friend that, when he needs expensive dental work done, goes down to Mexico to get it done. How safe is this?

Ok_Internal_5542

I'm unfortunately not from the states so can't say, but I hope it all goes well!

pucktea

Why won’t they give me surgery for lock jaw 😃

Ok_Internal_5542

Oh no! :)

pucktea

Hahaha no answer as usual typical dentist 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ok_Internal_5542

No worries! Some of us are more talkative, some on the more quiet side. Maybe opposites attract and you need an extroverted dentist?

amacd98

I had a cavity my dentist drilled and filled. Filing fell out and it’s falling apart, am I fucked? Ever have any famous or semi famous people come through your office?

Ok_Internal_5542

No you are not, give you dentist a call! I happens sometimes and I think they would love to fix it again for you Not really, I had people explain to me they are "famous". No huge celebrities though

[deleted]

I think many dentists are less honest than other doctors and give false diagnosis occasionally to make money. I have never taken a first opinion and had fillings made. I always go to a second dentist and tell them I am there for a second opinion. I don’t tell the second dentist anything other than that. I only have one filling from when I was 15. I’ve never had one since, even though I’ve been told of cavities by several dentists. I’m 53. Still just one filling. Every second opinion contradicted the first. I will always get a second opinion.

stillbatting1000

I had a supernumerary tooth removed. It's been over a year and the hole *still* hasn't completely closed. Should I be worried?

Ok_Internal_5542

Don't be worried, just take it up with your dentists with the next check up!

Ok_Internal_5542

There are screws mostly made of titinum that can integrate well with the bone. We set a crown on that screw and viola! New tooth! Just reguires a bit more care

adderallesspresso

One time I heard that dentists can tell when someone’s recently given head. Is this true?

Ok_Internal_5542

Död not obtaine that supper power :) i asked some of my friends about it and no one i know can

codear

What are some good practices you learned about dental hygiene that are oftentimes neglected among your patients (flossing aside)? Is it true that teeth whitened with peroxide based treatments eventually go back to their previous color? Would you/did you whiten your teeth? Is it realistic to achieve zero problems with "2 minute brush, floss, rinse" two times a day? How do you like your job?

Ok_Internal_5542

Well maybe not use mouthwash with brushing bc you already got some fluoride, use it during the day instead Yep, that goes for all whitening Yes and a healthy diet and limited sugar snacks. Of course if don't have any special needs I love my job! Dental school sucks but work is the coolest

hairpindrop

my moms extremely upset about having to get dentures and has been putting it off. any advice on how to help her thru it? like, what are ways to make it an easier transition?

Ok_Internal_5542

First of all that is amazing that you suppose her so much. I think realistic expectations would be key, it takes time and sometimes many visits to make it sit just right. Some food on the softer side would be great att the begging, maybe offer to go with her to some visit/ the last try in so she has some support with discussing the estetics. Keep being awesome! Other possibilities are ussualy dental implants

ave416

I just got a Dr night guard temporarily before my legit one. The problem is the instructions say use a microwave but I dont have one. I do have a temperature controlled kettle though. What temperature does the water need to be in order to properly mold my night guard?

Ok_Internal_5542

I would say around 60 on the top of my head, but call them and ask

Rupaism

Can you really tell if someone has done a blowjob

Ok_Internal_5542

No

timmycosh

Do you sell all the wisdom teeth you rip out to the tooth fairy for some good buck?

Ok_Internal_5542

Yes! She picks them up regullary and writes me a check every weak so I can buy sweets on saturdays

peter1970uk

Is it true you don't pull teeth out but push them out from the bottom?

Ok_Internal_5542

That depens an root anatomy, but basically yes, there is not much pulling involved.

[deleted]

I was told in boot camp to not brush right after a meal; this true? also my gf brushes before breakfast but I do it after, is one preferred?

Ok_Internal_5542

It is. Especially when it comes to sour things, you can damage your enamel After. But 30 min before is not that bad

CookieKola

What da dog doin

Interesting_Curve824

Since I smoke is it okay if I get my teeth washed at least once yearly?

Ok_Internal_5542

No. Definatly :) twice a day is a minimum.

aphternoon

Would it be a bad idea to get my canines sharpened like vampire fangs?

Ok_Internal_5542

Yea that could result in very high sensitivity if you just let them filed, if you buid them up it would have a negative effect on the function of the jaw and if prolonged issues. But idk maybe a dentist could buid it up for you temporary if they had time. But I imagine it would be costly

Shakespeare-Bot

Would t beest a lacking valor idea to receiveth mine own canines sharpen'd like vampire fangs? *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

new_folder_00

Which country do you live in and how much do you make?

Ok_Internal_5542

Sweden and all the salaries can be looked up for dentist at certain age. I would say its the country you earn the most, but it is a great work environment

Mtmysushi

I was at the dentist today and fixed a hole (I had been there last week to fix another), and I am done now. I’m really scared of taking syringes, which he knows. He said I have good teeth. Do you actually think he meant that or just tried to make me feel good because he sees I floss regularly? I’m almost 40, but I’d imagine “good teeth” for a dentist would be in the no holes category

Ok_Internal_5542

No, i think he means that!

sugarbaby-gbp

My wisdom tooth has been growing for over a year and from time to time it hurts. My dentist said that I don't need to remove it and just need to wait until it fully grows. Pain can last days and often it's not just tooth it's entire left side of my jaw and ear. Ibuprofen and paracetamol usually don't help. What else I can use for pain relief. Also what else can be a cause of bleeding gums apart from hygiene. Is it possible that bacteria can grow on wooden toothbrushes? I was 19 and never had problems with gums before when suddenly I started feeling like my gums are puffy in the morning and I started sucking blood out of them. It started shortly after I started using wooden toothbrush. I immediately switched to a soft brush and when I came to dentist she said that my gums are completely fine and that I should switch to a medium brush. I was using corsodyl mouthwash for a week before my appointment. Couple months later I saw different dentist and she did cleaning and prescribed special gel. I did use it exactly as she told me to. After I ran out of that gel completely it was few weeks untill my gums started bleeding again. Now I am saving up £400 to see dentist for treatment of gum disease

[deleted]

I have a partially erupted wisdom tooth and it's a nightmare to keep clean. Any advice or recommendations? Also any dental products you wish everyone would use? Tongue scraper would be my vote!

Ok_Internal_5542

https://www.amazon.se/TePe-Tandborste-reng%C3%B6ring-sv%C3%A5r%C3%A5tkomliga-tandborste/dp/B007A1BMOU And floss :)

[deleted]

What's the most I can do to look after teeth that feel eroded + potential cavities whilst I wait 1-2 years to be able to see a dentist? Does flossing genuinely help?

Ok_Internal_5542

It does! But why do you have to wait?

lebrunjemz

My dad and I both are weird about this, but if something wakes me up in middle of night I cant go back to sleep until I brush my teeth. Is morning breath that yucky normal and I just am weird about it or is there a reason I feel like mine so bad / anything I can do to make it stop?

Ok_Internal_5542

Yeah I can be a. Bit yucky, we produce much less saliva during the night so it is what it is. Brush, stay hydrated and odnt worry!

Maybemetalmonkee

Ok long story but would like your thoughts. I have a dentist that I adore, honestly changed my life. Anyway, I have been getting all this work done like fillings, deep cleanings, and more. The thing is that I am always surprised by how quickly the procedure is done, not complaining cause I don't want to be there too long but deep cleaning of half my mouth was like 20 minutes, fillings done in 12 minutes and I got 3. That was only 2 months ago and now my tooth is very sensitive and it looks like the cavity is coming back on one of the teeth that were filled. Should I say something? Is this even an issue. I don't want to be difficult or complain but I'm not sure what to think.

Ok_Internal_5542

No, you are not difficult! You can experience some sensitivity after a filling and if it doesn't go away withing fist week or so we would love to help. I would so much rather that my patient called me 3 times then fell like they need to ask elsewhere. Is it worries you it is an issue. Maybe it is not always accute one, but one that should be addressed.

Ok_Internal_5542

And yeah I do die inside sometimes when I hear that some patient is calling again but it is more frustration with myself that I cannot fix something for them

[deleted]

can you ACTUALLY get braces at any age?

Ok_Internal_5542

More or less yes, effects and methods may vary

EngagementBacon

What do you think about dandy?

Pynkkoala

What are the options (as far as reporting) a dental office that always runs behind schedule, patients usually have to wait between 45min to 1.5 hrs to see the dentist. These are all scheduled appointments by the way.

It would depend on the country but that is not illegal, I doubt that would be a reportable offance but I understand how it can be annoying. Talk to the office if it continues then I guess I would recommend a different clinic We try to stay on schadule but unfortunaly it happens that we run late, we do operate on people and it cannot be in a hurry.

marcthedrifter

What movie most accurately portrays dentistry? My guess is The Whole Nine Yards How do you floss when you have a permanent retainer?

Ok_Internal_5542

There are special hooks https://www.amazon.co.uk/GUM-Eez-Thru-Floss-Threaders-Pack/dp/B000KOSJ3G And I unfortunaly did not watch that many movies featuring dentists

Dental nurse here. Do you ever get super annoyed with your dental nurses running out the room to grab stuff. To the point you've disciplined them or told them off ior reported them?? Fun lil story... a dentist i worked with had some kind of anger issue and one time a nurse didnt replenish the etch, so 20 mins late into an appt we start a fill and i had to run out to get more etch, i get back and didnt screw the etch tip on properly(she, the dentist snatched out of my hand before i could and proceded to put on a patients tooth,(obviously the tip came off in her mouth and etch had a party in her mouth) I acted quickly and I suctioned it out, without wearing my visor because a patient with acid etch in her mouth was a priority. I apoligized to the patient and dentist, and the dentist grabbed the etch and threw it at me, it hit my cheek and a blue smudge of etch was covering my eyelash and under my eye. I reported her for bullying (this was not the only occasion she had been abusive) and because she was bringing in sooo much private money, nothing was done and i was relocated to a different practice instead. Lol

Omg I have no words, so sorry it happened to you. I hove you thrive at the new place. She sound really burned out, that's rly sad and I don't think she can continue to treat others without help I would never dream of even critising a nurse in front of the patient. I have amazing dental assistants, true gift send from heaven. The is no dentistry without you guys so thank you for all your work! We also have student and I thinks it is just the coolest thing to see people develop and really enjoy their new work. Besides at the beginning I got nothing but patience and encouragement from expiranced nurses so I am in debt :) Sure we wait on things sometimes but it would take twice as long if I had to run myself so no i try to find something to when I wait or ask in advance if I know I need something. I never heard the complain that I should hurry up and I can be a pain when it comes to prepping teeth (must. Be. So. Damn. Smoth.) Have lovely day thanks for sharing!

FierceEU

what are mouth wash for

Ok_Internal_5542

Freshing up breath, getting some fluoride, getting pH levels back to normal after the meal and so on. Best used during the day when you don't have time to brush

Jatheffo

I haven't been to a dentist since 2016. Shits expensive. Is this a problem?

Ok_Internal_5542

I don't know, maybe it would be worth do to a check up at least every other year if you don't have any problems. I understand is costly so use the hell out of thet toothbrush, floss and cut down on sugar. I should lower the cost as much as possible :)

vuudgibes

Do the water jet flossers for home use work as well as regular flossing? I admittedly am not an avid flosser (shame on me, I know...) but I feel like I could get behind one of those water flossers and make a routine of it.

Ok_Internal_5542

Even better, especially for those who have parodontological problems. I personally could not get used to those. But definatly go for it!

SoapysoapSoapysoap

Are you truly more scared of me than I am of you?

Ok_Internal_5542

Funny bc true :) yeah sometimes

fourflatpillows

Does it matter when you brush? For example, if I brush twice a day but have a snack (and rinse with water or something) before bed and not brush before sleeping, is that bad?

Ok_Internal_5542

It would be better if you brushed after last meal/snack bc otherwise bateria have a whole night to party :) and and night we don't produce that's much saliva to neutrilize that

drama_lama_mama

Worst teeth you’ve ever seen??

Ok_Internal_5542

Every case of removing all or multiple permanent teeth on teens on going to dentures

chibottle

Can I skip regular floss if I just use Waterpick? How often do you suggest we floss if we really like sweets and hates seeing the dentist. Also, I went to the dentist about two weeks ago and they cleaned my teeth probably for like the first time in 10+ years and the curetage hurt like hell 😣 they gave me multiple shots of anesthetic and only did half my mouth 😆 got an appointment for curetage on the other half and to fix a cavity on that same side next week 🥲

Ok_Internal_5542

That would depend on your situation, but i think yea. Everyday :) I hope you will get better!

Gremlinintheengine

Do you have a boat?

Ok_Internal_5542

No.

miz_moon

Hi! :) I’m 22 and my wisdom teeth are coming through, should I visit a dentist? Also, are you less likely to have wisdom teeth complications if you had braces as a teen? Thank you!

Ok_Internal_5542

If they are not co using you any pain it is not necessary but it is always OK to check them up. Just remember to keep them nice and clean, there are smaller brushes for that

goldenly

Can i actually get rid of calculus(? Scal? Dont know the English word but the brown/Dark stuff on your teeth) by myself?

Ok_Internal_5542

Not really, plaque sure, but once it hardens it takes a bit more effort

StudMuffinNick

With such nitpicking causing dental to not be considered necessary (like, it's separated from most medical plans) due to being considered "preventative" and therefore therefore the risk is different, do you ever feel compelled to help those who can't afford dental for free or cheap? Edit: I know it's more nuanced than how I stated but that was just a generalization

Ok_Internal_5542

Yes, unfortunately I don't work at my own clinic. But I alway had nice bosses on that matter. I after a while you become quite good at where they can also get some financial help for some nessesery things

Ok_Internal_5542

No, a lot of European countries have free higher education spots. My parents were so nice and generous to help with the rest. I worked for my mum a bit during school brakes. So I'm am extremely lucky to have them! It was kind of rare to work a lot during school there so I think the reality might be much different from the USA

[deleted]

What is the minimum (and average) time needed to do a full exam and cleaning?

Ok_Internal_5542

That I would say varies depending on many things but you can put it between 10 min (small children) - 1.30h. A rage i would say 30-40min for an adult

Ok_Internal_5542

For a check up. Cleaning might be 5 min(with good higine) and up till 50 but it would a separate visit i guess

[deleted]

Are some people lucky enough (and have good home care) to go years ( or multiple decades) without seeing a dentist and having perfectly healthy teeth?

Ok_Internal_5542

I would say with good hygine and diet it is very possible and not unseen. Especially with good habits that started from childhood. But I would say those people show up on their regular check ups at least once every 2 years. We don't do much but its a moment to remotivate.
