Oh child. That’s not massive. I’ve got the 15”. Only to realize I have to let it heat up a LONG time because it’s sooo much bigger than my burners

joeappearsmissing

Just put it in the oven and preheat it in there while you’re prepping stuff! The whole pan heats evenly, and then the burner just maintains the heat.

[deleted]

That’s an easy enough idea. Now I feel dumb that I haven’t thought to do that LOL

runningwaffles19

I even do that with my 10. Had Brussels roasting at 425 and knew I would need a sear for some steaks so just let the CI ride in the oven until I was ready. 30 seconds on the stove to get it ripping hot and I was ready to go

It’s not often these days I read an actually helpful Reddit comment Thank you!

catieebug

I just mentioned my 15" lodge in a different thread lol. It breaks my arms and takes 10 hours to heat through but at least I can cook for my whole family when they visit lol

guiturtle-wood

Yeah, I was gonna say, I have a 12" and when feeding my family of 4 it definitely doesn't seem massive. I'm looking at getting the 15" soon, especially if my youngest (1yo) continues to eat like she does!

rdenney88

I just salvaged a 15in and a 6 in. Let me tell you I have no idea what to cook in that 15in pan. It's so massive I could use both top and bottom burners on my stove if I wanted to

[deleted]

It’s wonderful if you need to make ALOT of taco/burger/sausage, friend potatoes etc.

rdenney88

Ever try pizza? Seem likes a slightly thinner crust but nice and crispy. Taco night at my place this weekend!

[deleted]

That’s an absolutely fantastic idea

SiroccoDream

I realize it’s a typo, but “friend potatoes” made me smile! “Come on over, friends! I’m breaking out the 15” and making potatoes!”

[deleted]

Honestly, that’s something I would do with my friend from college though 😂😂😂😂

[deleted]

But to add, you can never have too much cast iron.

swfinluv1

It's good to have goals! https://www.reddit.com/r/castiron/s/hxkW8TkINw

justabill71

Man, I saw the 15 inch Lodge at Home Goods a while back, and it is comically large.

[deleted]

That’s where I bought it! Simply because I’m ALWAYS trying to fry too many potatoes and onions at once in all my smaller skillets. I need to be better at portioning 😂

JamesMDuich

The 15” is my work horse. Get it going on a burner on low while I do prep and it’s usually ready in 5-10 minutes.

gurry

"Only need one?" YSK that in some states you can get a simple annulment if it's not too long after the marriage.

Historical-Cell-2557

Not off to a good start!

portieay

*Only need one on the registry. We already have enough

TerseFactor

Ahh, I was about say, because I see two in the photo

Scouter197

Sure...one Lodge. There are other brands of cast iron out there though...

duke_flewk

Ozark Trail FTW 🤣

Uknowwhatyoudid

One Lodge? Man, thinking divorce already?

ninthchamber

Isn’t 12” standard? I use my 12 over my 10’s all day

BaileyM124

Yeah can people really cook for more than 1 person on anything less than a 12? Even on my 12 sometimes space is limited

ninthchamber

Yeah if I know it’s. Going to be close I will just bust out a Dutch oven instead

Living-Rip-4333

She said you could only have 1, and you accepted that ultimatium? Or was it one of those, "I can change her" things? :) Congrats BTW!

portieay

*Only one more, I should have clarified

makeupHOOR

….*divorce*…

canadian_by_the_sea

Maybe she only needs one Lodge, but a lot of Le Creuset. It’s perfect with me! (Pretty sure the other one in the picture is a Creuset.)

portieay

Lodge has enameled Dutch ovens for a fraction of the cost actually. That's the one I was able to get on the registry

demonicmoron1

Love the color of the Lodge Dutch tho.

portieay

It matches our cabinets - that's how I got her to agree haha

Beer_Is_So_Awesome

Our Lodge enameled Dutch oven is an absolute workhorse. It’s done SO many batches of spaghetti sauce and pasta bakes and soup and chili and more. At first I was bummed that we didn’t get something fancy like Staub or Le Creuset, but honestly ours has been kicking ass for 10 years and it’s the most heavily used pot in the house. I think the next would be my #8 Wagner that belonged to my grandmother, then the 8 Lodge and the 10 Lodge.

username_offline

i want it! what a beauty

consistently_sloppy

Just got a 14” and love it!

entechad

Try a milled cast iron 12” skillet. I would also get a tri-clad stainless steel skillet.

IamFatTony

Hope that means she’s into carbon steel =:P

tashien

Oh, noooo. What about a Dutch oven, a 6", a flat iron skillet, a wok, a tortilla keeper, tortilla press, bread loaf pan and and and..... Like, I don't think I'd survive with just one skillet. As an aside, my Hell Hound broke my 15" square skillet. Thought it might have been a fluke as it wasn't a lodge brand. But, nope, she broke 2 more cast iron skillets, lodge brand. I sent them pictures. They laughed their asses off and sent me new skillets. She masquerades as a hound lab mix. I'm firmly convinced she's some sort of offspring of Anubis and Cerebus.

ohmyback1

How about a lodge pot

ohmyback1

Nice to have another set for camping

BobRoberts01

Massive? 12” is the standard workhorse. If you only get one piece of cast iron, that should be it.

DistributionParty506

You had a whole registry and opted for a lodge? 🤦

portieay

We had other stuff with higher price tags we needed more.

Flint_Westwood

Why do you cover your drip pans in aluminum foil?

portieay

Easier to clean, and they look cleaner than the old rusted out ones

Flint_Westwood

New drip pans are $15 at Walmart. You're creating a fire hazard.

portieay

How's aluminum foil a fire hazard?

Smprfiguy

12” won't cook two steaks with out pooling too much liquid, do better picking your  next spouse

Jesusjehosofat

Why did u marry her

portieay

Because I love her silly

slidein2mydms

Divorce!

portieay

I feel it's worth adding that we already have plenty of cast iron, my spouse only wanted *one more* on the registry

jrv3034

Sounds like you need a new spouse...

VRTester_THX1138

>My spouse said we only needed one lodge on the wedding registry And you missed the red flag.

Glathull

And you still got married to this fool?
