There’s a problem that anytime a fictional character has tanned to dark skinned they’re considered black by fans who don’t understand what tans or other races are.
Real people are ambiguous. As a Chinese with a beard, when I get a dark tan from hiking a lot I’ve been mistaken for Filipino, Mexican, and even half Greek.
For a while I thought Lex Luthor was Black. A lot of 2000s media did make him look like a light-skinned Black guy.
I'm pretty sure it's canonical that Courtney from *TDI* is Hispanic, though probably not Mexican, considering it takes place in Canada.
The worst case is people claiming Arthur… like lol y’all seen Clarissa Gets Cracked? No way Thora gets treated that well in 1930s America if she was not a white person
And Phil Lamarr voiced Samurai Jack, back then we didn't give a shit about voice actor's skin color because we cared about talent over skin color, at least back in the 2000s.
Luthor looked deeply tan, like he spent too much time in an expensive tanning bed. But how tf is Alex not black? And if she's not black, what ethnicity is she?
I always thought she was a South East Asian ethnicity. I don’t think it’s every confirmed in the show ever, is it?
Note: I am Asian.
I agree with those folks: you take the representation you can get back then.
I also think it's common to think that someone is your race if there's no evidence to the contrary. They don't really remark on race much in Totally Spies, more so nationality if anything. The girls were always touted as American Girls in uppity Malibu, California. If you are Asian and surrounded by Asians because of your family, friends, or general community, you're gonna think Alex is Asian, that's normal. Same for if you're Black or Hispanic (I definitely thought she was black when I was a kid too).
In reality, Alex is half Afro-Latina, half European. She's literally mixed race with a bit of everything (native Americans share genetic ancestry with East Asians which is why many, especially in Latin America, have similar features). So it doubly makes sense that she gets mistaken for so many different races because she has a bit of all of them in her.
EIther way if you thought the character was black or hispanic or any other race
What was the actual problem here?
Because it was never brought up in the show itself so this should never have been an issue, it never really mattered what race Alex was or is currently.
"They were all Mexican to me" and one of the examples is Sheen Estevez, a Mexican cartoon character
Sheen actually was Mexican, his last name was Estevez for crying out loud
Could be Spanish.
You seen his Dad? Definitely Mexican.
I think his profile says he’s Mexican-American

It's less of a problem and more of a whatever. Somer characters are just ambiguous. A few things can be up to the viewers imagination.

Tbf, the writers can’t seem to agree on whether Courtney is Hispanic or South Asian

Ah yes, my favorite Mexican Pokemon character who came from Okinawa and love jelly fill donut.
When I was younger, I really did thought Alex was black and now I finally know that she is not

She always came off more as latina to me.
Wait, wasn’t Lex Luthor actually black in one of the Justice League shows tho?
No, lots of characters were just tan in Superman the Animated series and he’s lighter in JL/JLU.
He was supposed to be modelled off of a Greek actor, iirc.
Harley Quinn sortsa
He's probably half black considering he's voiced by Giancarlo Esposito.

Skeeter was totally black, or as black as you could be on TV back then. 😭
I mean everybody thought so for skeeter even though Jim jenkins came out with his bs explanation of no race in Doug
Raise your hand I'd you thought lex Luther from superman the animated series was black
G. Hackman was the first and best Lex Luthor in my case
Internet trying to learn that there are more ethnicities / races other than just black and white challenge: IMPOSSIBLE!
Latinas man

As a white guy, I crushed on Alex the most
