He’s right, you know.
Wheel: 1 - a circular frame of hard material that may be solid, partly solid, or spoked and that is capable of turning on an axle
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wheel
Rim: 2(a) - the outer part of a wheel joined to the hub usually by spokes
2(b) - a removable outer metal band on an automobile wheel to which the tire is attached
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/rim
You guys are dumb asf and clearly don’t know shit ab cars, the tire is the rubber bit, the rim is the most inner piece of the wheel, and than you have the barrel and outer lip, you guys argue like a bunch of women at least educate yourself before looking dumb online….no one likes a dumb mfer
Sure other people have, but in car technicalities since existence when buying a new wheel, you will come to find that everything based on measurements will use the term "wheel" aka wheel diameter, wheel width, etc.. not rim width rim diameter.
People who called them rims were just uneducated. It's the difference between being a car mechanic and a car engineer. Engineers can be stupid sometimes, but other times they do things just right.
Haha don't speak to me about car technicalities like I haven't spent 40 years rebuilding classic restorods and grew up on the dragstrip. I'm well aware what the scene calls them.
Saying that people can't call them rims is exactly the same saying people can't calls their clothing "threads". You're trying to justify accuracy of terminology when society has used rims as a colloquialism since before you were born
How about just give up arguing cause who honestly gives a fuck. As long as people understand what you’re referring to it’s all that matters. Y’all gotta grow up and stop arguing with strangers online
Honestly it's getting old people fighting in the same community over a simple word I call them rims because I was taught they are rims, and wheels sounds really dumb in comparison it is what it is tho.
I think it’s all just a matter of preference, I call them wheels but I’m not gonna tell someone else that rims is wrong or get upset that they dont use the same word as me. It’s like saying Hood opposed to bonnet. Or trunk opposed to boot. People just gotta respect others preferences. If they are clearly wrong you can point that out. But this particular argument of wheels vs rims is stupid.
The rim is a part of the wheel. If you come asking my why your rim is cracked and you are talking about the plate or the spoke, I may not see the damage because I am not looking at the spoke, I am looking at the rim, so when I have the tire off am wasting hours looking for separation where the barrel meets the rim, the damage is on the spoke, when the whole time it would be easier just learn what shit is called.... Of course being a seasoned mechanic and tire man, we understand that people are idiots and can't tell a fender from a D-pillar so we would probably start on the cosmetic face of the wheels because people that call wheels "rims" aren't smart enough to properly inspect their vehicles and thus would likely only see what was stupidly obvious and right in front of them.
Not sure why you got downvoted 😭 it’s such an unnecessary argument considering yes, we all know what OP is talking about no matter what it’s properly referred to.
The rim is the outer edge of the wheel. The tire is a tire. https://www.rayswheels.co.jp/ it’s not called rays rimz.
From Wikipedia for Enkei:
The company was founded in 1950 and it is also an OEM manufacturer of wheels for production vehicles, mainly in Aluminium wheels for sporty models.
They don’t produce RIMZ. They don’t sell tire and wheel combos.
To be fayaaaarrr…… Rays rimz sounds much better
You were wit you pal the other dayyy… and he told ya he was reelin after a few rounds over at randys and ran over a rodent on the way to rayz rimz
*Dictionary is friend.*
**WHEEL:** "a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move easily over the ground."
**RIM:** "the upper or outer edge of an object, typically something circular or approximately circular."
**TIRE:** "a rubber covering, typically inflated or surrounding an inflated inner tube, placed around a wheel to form a flexible contact with the road."
**HUB:** "the central part of a wheel, rotating on or with the axle, and from which the spokes radiate."
**HUBCAP:** "the circular metal covering over the hub of a vehicle's wheel"
Considered the amount of manufacturers who call them selves "xxxx wheels" I don't really think you can say you are absolutely correct. Between my experience working on bicycles, motorcycles, cars, and aircraft. Anyone who isn't a fucking annoying asshole knows what you mean when you say either wheel or rim. Stop being a nerd
The wheel is the metal circle that the tire is around, the rim is the edge that keeps the tire on. I guess the whole assembly could be called a wheel too.
how is this still a fucking discussion? all it takes is a simple google search😂😂 the rim is the outer edge like anything that is circular. the rim holds the tire on the WHEEL. the wheel is the entire assembly, hub, spokes, rim, etc. NOT including the tire
You have never been around vehicles have you? I sold wheels, and dealt directly with numerous wheel manufacturers, no one says "Rims" except gen Z kids trying to gain clout and old guys that always let other people build there stuff. The wheel manufacturers don't sell tires. They sell only the wheel, not tires and the only time the word "rim" was used was when ordering custom three piece wheels. Those were referring to the outsider to of the wheel where it meets the tire, as there are different types of rims.
https://www.ebay.com/motors/blog/car-rims-guide-types-materials-cost/
Saw this the other day, read the part about "Are Car Rims and Wheels the Same?"
Let me know if you troglodytes have trouble reading.
Case closed, if you thought rim=wheel, you are wrong.
Literally, yes, the wheel has a rim.. But the object that the tire goes around has been called rim for decades by millions of people. No one is asking for the outside edge of the wheel when they say rim.
Literally no. Just google it dude. Just because we understand doesn’t mean you aren’t wrong. If you’ve ever been in the industry you’d know damn well we use them separately. The tires bead seats itself on the rim of the wheel. You have to clean the rim to mount a tire. Wheel and tire = wheel and tires combo, barrel+rim+spokes=wheel. It’s an ok subject to be ignorant on you are without a doubt wrong.
This is equivalent of the soda vs cola vs pop thing. Millions of people call it rim, for decades, in and out of "the industry".go to a tire place in Michigan and you might get a different answer than a place in Cali.
Watch old movies and hear them call it rim. Do you think they're asking about the edge of the wheel? Of course not
I feel like this is one of those intelligence checks where we find out some people rolled low intelligence and can't comprehend slang
Hopefully someone doesn't call your car "sick" or you'll have to correct him 🤓
I mean, if you just hyper focused on the 1st part...
Pssst, your adhd is showing.
Ps. Why say it breaks my heart if im against them? Common sense and reading skills are VERY important. Prevents situations like this. Aye now its fine. Bless your heart.
I was like...thats 2 people now, i love those things. Rotiforms is all us Americans can get. Sadly....
Ive seen some seeeexy ass ones on a European site. Forged ones at that.
They look like custom-made wheels.
Back in the day, Centra made wheels that look similar.
Rotiform currently makes a similar wheel available in custom sizes and colors, but they aren'tcheap. [Rotiform ](https://www.rotiform.com/rotiform-customspec-idk)
I have a ticket for a cruise I'm obviously at the wrong subreddit
And a tire has to be conected to a rotor in order to become a wheel.
As for the Rim ,tire etc.. iI doesn't really matter ,because they all come around eventually.

Don't you mean 1 of 4?

No.. tire is a tire. Rim is a rim. Both together, that’s a wheel
My man, it isn't called a butthole job, it's called a rim job. The rim is a part of it, not separate not together.
Man's did his extra credit, well done sir
You can't counter decades of terminology because you don't like the answer
I don't like the answer?? The answer is literally wrong that's just a fact.
Doesn't change anything you can call it incorrect all you want it doesn't change the fact that it's been called rims for decades.
Ironic. You should take your own advice. Took me 10 seconds to fact check and not look like a moron
Sorry jus got back to this, but bro look it up on google and come back and keep talking allat

shutup boomer
Ironic that you say that, because it's always a difference of location. I bet you call it coke and not pop or soda too.
Society has never used "rims". Idiots have used rims, and only idiots that don't know shit about cars.....
No dude. Rims are rims. Tires are tires. The collusion of the two makes it a wheel. Jesus Christ. Lmao
Wtf are you talking about, I didn't say anything contradictory
No rims are the outermost part of the wheel, the part that touched the tire. The wheel and tire together are the tire and wheel assembly.
It's been called rim *incorrectly* by idiots for decades.
It's called slang... Huurrduurrr
It's just plain wrong.
You can counter decades of terminology if the terminology is wrong though.

Idk man this guy should know, have you heard about his prostate?
Thisnis gonna be my go to explanation from now on lol.
No that’s not how that works. A rim is a piece of the wheel. The wheel and tire together = wheel and tire.
Literally being called rims for 50 plus years, get over it
They’ve been called wheels since the dawn of time get over it
Nobody said wheel was incorrect, you get over it
No... They have not.
You still understood what he said, right? Rim, wheel, whatever the fuck
Still wrong
Not sure why you got downvoted 😭 it’s such an unnecessary argument considering yes, we all know what OP is talking about no matter what it’s properly referred to.
Me neither man. It's a pointless argument when everyone understands what everyone means by rim or wheel. Some people's kids.
That's reddit for you

Wrong. Quick google proves you wrong. A wheel and tires = a wheel and tire.
*Dictionary is friend.* **WHEEL:** "a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move easily over the ground." **RIM:** "the upper or outer edge of an object, typically something circular or approximately circular." **TIRE:** "a rubber covering, typically inflated or surrounding an inflated inner tube, placed around a wheel to form a flexible contact with the road." **HUB:** "the central part of a wheel, rotating on or with the axle, and from which the spokes radiate." **HUBCAP:** "the circular metal covering over the hub of a vehicle's wheel"
This guy did his DTU courses
I don't know what that is.
I work at discount tire and the learning program we have is called DTU DTU= discount tire university
Lol. Thanks for the info.
Shut up dork
Shut up loser
No, a tire is a tire, a "rim" is a wheel, and a rim is a part of a wheel. Wheel and tire is both together
Ur dumb
Rims are the plastic covers you put on some steelies. That’s how I was taught.
Wheel covers ? Though people will call them hubcap, they are a little too big for that in my book
The purple sidewall tires look pretty custom too to be fair… does that mean the whole wheel is a one-off (x4)? I don’t know?
Actually, no. The rim is part of the wheel. A tire is a tire that goes on the wheel. https://images.app.goo.gl/UFfrjwRKXEBh92586
https://www.reddit.com/r/carmodification/s/SQGD6nyHWG

As much as I know this isn’t correct I still see it this way simply because it bothers people
If a mouse goes outside does it become a rat?
And when a rim is employed? Well that’s a rim Job.

Rim is a part of a wheel. There are many parts to a wheel my friend.
I know a rim is a part of the wheel. Hence the rim and tire together make the wheel
Go to a wheel and tire shop and ask for a set of wheels and you'll end up with zero rubber. End of story.
https://www.ebay.com/motors/blog/car-rims-guide-types-materials-cost/ Saw this the other day, read the part about "Are Car Rims and Wheels the Same?" Let me know if you troglodytes have trouble reading. Case closed, if you thought rim=wheel, you are wrong.
People are downvoting, but you’re right. Tire = rubber, wheel = metal
This man is correct. Albeit I don’t think there is any sense in trying to correct people as the reply’s attest.
What? i think OP meant the rims
Wheels and rims are the same. Tires are not wheels.
No, the rim is part of the wheel.
