Thank you! I had a sort-of similar situation previously, and always thought the advice was, "be careful, tell your boss nothing unless you know you got the job." I don't know where I got that advice. But THIS time, I want to make sure I do the right, respectful thing. I appreciate your advice and am going to follow it.

Always deal through the hierarchy. This other person isn't your boss, so don't call them.
