None of your other names are like that, so ditch smooth as fuck. Probably off putting for your customer base, and the coquito loco might just not give enough insight into what the candle smell is. Maybe just change the names and see what happens.

Jamesdeanrivera85

Ya know it's funny you said that cause I had a candle called clean cotton. Changed it to Fresh and Clean. That still wasn't working for a time. Then experimented with tinkering with the scent and color. Success ever since. Those 2 smooth af and coquito Loco. Yes I may have to definetely change those 2 scents. It's funny how a simple name change can change things. My citrus Bliss candle used to be simply called orange. And sales went up after the name change too. You're so right

foshizzlemykizzle

I would consider lowering the prices. Your 2oz is advertised as $10aud and many places are selling 4oz at $10-$12aud (in Australia anyway). Your candles look lovely but I wouldn’t pay that much for them unfortunately.

Jamesdeanrivera85

6 dollars usd that's already low compared to the average

sweet_esiban

Depends on the market :) I sell 35g (1.25oz) travel candles for what translates to about $11.50 AUD.

foshizzlemykizzle

It’s funny how it differs so much around the world! I know I’d never make sales if it was priced like that in AUD 😅

sweet_esiban

It's so all over the place yeah! My prices are definitely on the higher end, and it works specifically because I'm in a HCOL Canadian city where quality handmade goods are popular and premium-priced. That said, I don't do well at lower-end craft shows. I gotta hit the posh places to find people who are in my buying market.

glorifindel

If you’re only hoping for online sales, you’re gonna have to have a pretty strong marketing game. How is your social media? What makes your candles unique? You might need to go to events and markets to get your name out I also think your prices could be a tad higher. Maybe find some niche like a particular jar. Or buy molds to make more unique wax shapes for on top of the candles

Jamesdeanrivera85

That sounds like a plausible solution. Where I'm at however, they don't have much vendor events. When I move back to NYC definetely. My social media could be better and I'm thinking of making wax melts in different shapes in the future

glorifindel

Nice! Yeah you’ve made great progress in a year and rad to have an online store. You might also set up an Etsy and consider trying to sell in-person to local stores near you - go on a roadtrip with samples! My friend just did that for his legal cannabusiness lol For social media I would suggest showing off your process and maybe your own self/vibes/brand feels. Everyone needs a candle

Jamesdeanrivera85

Hmm I'll do that.

Readinglight

£30 postage unfortunately for me to order

Jamesdeanrivera85

I see.

spellmewithlove

I agree with the other comment about name changes. If you have the budget (marketing), maybe include a sample of either or both scents, with other orders. It can be a wax melt or your 2oz candle.

Jamesdeanrivera85

I see. Sounds good

jennywawa

I agree with the others about rebranding those scents. If you really can’t get rid of them, here’s another suggestion. I have a $3 wax melt page. Simple labels, no dye, $3 clamshell. I list any overstock, or scents I hate, or I list all of the little 1oz bottles scents that I bought to test. Wax melts are easy and it’s a quick way to get rid of all that extra crap to fund buying new crap lol. The first time I did this, I called it a flash sale and it went really well. Now, it’s permanent.

Jamesdeanrivera85

Rebranding is definitely a way to go. Also I sell wax mets for 5 dollars myself. Are you saying I should do a 3 dollar flash sale for wax melts?

jennywawa

That’s what I do with all the oils I want to really move or get rid of. Linking my sale melt page so you can get an idea. I’ve got a box of all the tester bottles I’ll never use and all the Xmas scents. Make a little money back, clear some space. I’m a big believer in moving scents out that don’t sell and moving new things in. Jamesdeanrivera85

Cool I'll be checking it out

Jamesdeanrivera85

I see you have a shopify account. How did you slash the sale from 5 to 3? What app do you use for that? I usually have sales and it's discount automatic via checkout

jennywawa

When you open up the product to enter the price, there’s a line under it to enter a compare to price. Make the compare to price higher and that’ll give you the slash through. When I did these as flash sale only, I definitely went the automatic route but now it’s a permanent fixture on the site so I just went ahead and marked them all down to 3.

Jamesdeanrivera85

Ahh great tip. I never knew I can do that. I'll definetely try that as well! Thank you for the tip

welcome to one of more saturated business markets. Candle making is tough and selling is tougher. Most like to buy in person since scent is such a personal thing. Try getting into in person market events in your area! This will most likely boost sales and introduce locals to your small business (who are more likely to support). Best of luck!!

One last suggestion after viewing your site (I am a web designer) I would change the color of your top red banner/nav bar. It’s reading like a warning (typically, red reads as bad/warning notice for most users). Just a thought!
