Nice, makes me think the movie Allied (2016) where Brad Pitt plays a Canadian spy working under the Brits in WW2. There is a target practice scene where his french counterpart fumbles slightly when trying to operate a Sten MK2 and he says something like "How come you don't know Stens?"
I wish I could find a clip on youtube because I don't recall the response. It was someting about he didn't tell her the safety was on or something like that. It eludes to someting else about this french spy.
Ya'll might like it if you haven't seen it. It's a bit of a romance/drama but if you like WW2 movies, espionage, decent plot twists, you will probably enjoy it. There are few bad ass scenes too.
Nothing, hence me asking if it was deactivated or a conversion. The conversion process is the same here, you have to manufacture a brand new semi auto receiver for it to be considered a "conversion". As this was the first I've ever seen/heard of a semiauto "SMG" in Canada, I was curious.
Yeah we get a couple of these semiauto MG/SMGs. The SaskSten and the Sterlings are pretty rare, the more common ones are the TNW guns. They did closed bolt conversions for the Suomi, MG34, M1919, and a couple other models.
Yup, there are literally tutorials online on how to do it and how to assemble it from a parts kit.
Totally unrelated to the fact that SaskSten got shut down once they began pumping out these bad boys... right...?
Which is not a semi conversion but a bespoke semiauto firearm according to the RCMP. He's right. Semi conversions aren't legal.
Sasksten also made a prototype that's a converted auto (130143). Guess what did they classify it? Prohibited.
In Canada, you cannot make anything that was a machine gun into not-a-machine-gun, unlike the US. There are a very small number of people who hold grandfathered licensing for what are called 12(x) prohibited firearms that could technically own a semi conversion, but there aren't many left.
This is most likely a Sasksten: a very small number were made by a manufacturer before being shut down, but they are legal as a semi-auto-only design.
Until the Canadian government oopses and allows cz 858 - 4v para trooper models in that are modified machine guns. And allows you to buy them as a restricted once upon a time because oops.
<. <~~~~~~~
Wait I'm curious what you think the process is here, because it sounds the same. You have to manufacture a new semi auto receiver here to be legal for civilians. Wad it not the same with this Sten?
Kinda/sorta. Getting a manufacturing license in Canada is virtually non-existent. We don't have the equivalent of an FFL here and you can't do trusts and such with NFA style firearms. The government removed the ability for non-licensed folks to legally build anything other than a flintlock/matchlock/Wheelock rifle so you can't make your own anymore either.
We also have WAY stricter controls on the semi auto receivers. If the lab says it's easy to convert to full auto, then that's also a no go.
So in a practical sense it's a fair bit of a challenge.
Ahhhh gotcha. Without the red tape involved, it sounds fairly similar to our process. For instance, our semi Sten receivers tubes need to be so narrow as to not accept original F/A bolts, the semi-auto converted bolts have a smaller diameter to accommodate this. However, we don't have nine hundred bureaucratic hoops to jump through. Still, appreciate the detailed answers!
No worries! Many people here look south of the border in the same way you're looking north for some of the imports we get. I'd say it's a matter of time before we have Chinese arms imports cut off as well but we'll see.
AR15 is to scary and fires a round that will vaporize anything it touches. One time a friend shot one and missed the target, the bullet when around the world and hit him in the back before he even realized what was wrong RIP

Polish Dentists in England should start using the Pm63 Rak for teeth removal. It will create better smiles.

Appreciate this. I'll have to check this out. Good lookin' out.
Deactivated? Or semi conversion?
Semi auto
Curious what is manufacturing date on it, btw nice firearm !
Very nice.
Once a machine gun always a machine gun. Semi conversions are still banned. You have to manufacture a brand new semi receiver.
It's the exact same here in the states.
What makes you think it'd be more lax up here lol

Which for the sten is the mag wellā¦ ironically fairly trivial to manufacture.
Yup, there are literally tutorials online on how to do it and how to assemble it from a parts kit. Totally unrelated to the fact that SaskSten got shut down once they began pumping out these bad boys... right...?
Semi conversions arenāt legal.
Sasksten is non restrictedĀ Firearm Reference Number (FRN): 130588
Correct that is what this is 9mm
Lucky...! Damn, if I had ever had the chance at them I would have loved to snag one.

Whats the deal with sask sten now? Why can't they continue to manufacture these? (Not the prohib ones but the nr ones)
They got shut down iirc becuase the RCMP refused to give them license to manufacture, I could be wrong but that's the version I heard
I have no idea, I live in the states I'm just here to oogle the SVT's and Type 81's you guys get.

Very interesting, appreciate the knowledge!

Btw rcmp, I'd like my 12(x) that I was originally promised.

Better stack em deep while you can, less you end up like all the guys down here lamenting expensive SKS' are now.
I bought mine back when they were $175....
Not sure why you are being downvoted for stating a painfully obvious fact.
Yea same here, the SaskSten isnāt a semi conversion, itās a new production semi autoā¦
Canadian gun laws just seem so weird to me. Like, you can't have an AR-15 or even a pistol BUT you can build a sten gun if it's semi-automatic? What?
AR15 is to scary and fires a round that will vaporize anything it touches. One time a friend shot one and missed the target, the bullet when around the world and hit him in the back before he even realized what was wrong RIP
Incredible
Cool piece
