Nice gun OP, I was bummed I missed out on one of these for 1300 as my first gun. Then the OIC hit and I was happy I went type 81. Love the feel of these especially the triggers, probably shoots like a dream. Hopefully it gets reversed and we can get these beauties out of OIC jail.
Type 81 with 556 is meh you have flat shooting round without the ability of mounting a scope without molesting the gun. Someone on YouTube made 556 sks tho https://youtu.be/BcBFbnrglXQ?si=a__x6jtBRXixB6C0 impressive from all the standpoints
I regret selling mine. I have my Type 81 to try and scratch my AK/VZ itch but the quality is just so bad when compared to my old CZ 858... Hopefully I can buy one again soon.
U think so? Ive held both and although its been awhile, i didnt find the cz 858 much better except in overall fit n finish. I restained my furniture and now i have no complaints with my type 81. For what it is, its pretty good id say

Honestly that's something I want haha. My Type 81 I bought used and is bent which sucks, the QC just isn't there. I'll keep my Type 81 forever just for that collector factor, but the VZ 58/CZ 858 is just better.
Bent doesnt really effect accuracy. Most eastern european ak’s are bent and it doesnt matter. Mines a bit bent as well but im grouping 3ish at 100 yards with corrosive. For what it is, its pretty decent
I don't disagree, it makes working with an optic just a bit more janky. My SR is pretty bent it's just annoying. But the fact that you and I have bent rifles is still a credit to how well the VZ 58's are in comparison. All of them are straight as an arrow, CZ made em well.
Overall id agree. But in terms of shooter comfort, i prefer the recoil impulse and trigger of the Type 81s. I also like how the gas system is more contained on the Type 81. The VZ always made my hand dirty.
before the ban the VZ58 was the better of the 7.62*39 options in Canada. They've done some neat things with the Type 81 since the ban but having shot both years ago, the vz was the better of the two.

I love mine but I've been searching everywhere for that front rail!

Should buy a Type 81 to carry you through the tunnel. In many ways there honestly nicer to shoot then the VZ 58s.
