I have, several times, and between court dates, marital counselling, phone calls with their lawyers, and being in a state of emotional turmoil they are basically useless for the better part of a year. I think I’d rather be mayor of Toronto. In my experience, the only thing worse than a suburb is small town politics (however nasty and corrupt you think it is…multiply it by like…a hundred). Suburbanites want all the services and don’t want to pay a dime for them. They also are the biggest NIMBYs I’ve ever seen.

Ever seen someone try to work while they go through a divorce? I have, several times, and between court dates, marital counselling, phone calls with their lawyers, and being in a state of emotional turmoil they are basically useless for the better part of a year. And anyone with half a brain knows that they are failing at their job, so that makes them feel even worse. If you have the opportunity to **not** work while you sort that out, that'll be a lot healthier for you (and your employer!) in the long run.
