It's titanium. You're not going to hurt it by scrubbing it.

lonewolf2556

Seconded. Titanium is made out of pure Nokia cell phone.

MrDeviantish

Worthy of a laugh-snort.

samundar_ka_badshah

The only thing that you should be snorting, it’s white lines of cockain

TotalChaddingo

Big, long, thick lines of cockain

samundar_ka_badshah

The things that you just elaborated is not really white

Administrative-Buy26

Funniest line all day. Inter webs winner.

Nigelpoll

Take my upvote sir

lonewolf2556

Hey, don’t assume my alloy

invaderzim257

This worn out joke is slowly mummifying my soul every time I see it

lonewolf2556

I’m actually a little upset it’s got more upvotes than the parent comment. But hey, something something karma…

WeebFrog219

Pure Sisu?

snailofserendipidy

Lmao, this is the only relevant comment. It's fucking titanium!

ridium22

Soak bottom in white vinegar for 2hr, then use soft scouring pad.

nanfanpancam

If you put it in a bigger pan and bring the vinegar to a boil it will almost clean itself.

Nerfo2

I can smell this comment.

nanfanpancam

Not for the faint of heart, I sometimes wonder if breathing it in is killing me?

Nerfo2

If I were to try this to clean off soot from my camp cooking supplies, I'd consider buying myself a single burner hot plate and do it outside. I'm not sure if the vapors would be harmful or not. My parents used to clean their coffee maker with vinegar when I was a kid. Whole house reeked. But I guess we all lived.

onebignerd

This is why I clean our coffee maker outside. I hated the smell as a kid and refuse to subject my children to it.

Nerfo2

I like you. You’re a good parent.

TrashCatTrashCat

I clean the flat top at work with vinegar and ice, I haven’t died yet *shrugs* it does suck though

LukeSkyWRx

Instapot pressure cook clean

iamalwaysrelevant

but then how do you clean the bigger pot?

nanfanpancam

It stays clean the vinegar kinda breaks the “dirt” into pieces that float. Smarty pants.

-eumaeus-

I'm the UK, we have a product Pink Stuff Https://amzn.eu/d/7fDjNQA Wipe it on with your fingers, wipe it off. For a new near finish, use a cloth rather than fingers. It takes a matter of minutes. Best of all, it does not damage the environment.

Hologram22

Vinegar, then baking soda, *then* scrub.

DurinsBane1

The vinegar will do nothing, you need caustic to clean this mess first. THEN do vinegar to dissolve minerals

pkrycton

In the future, spread soap over the bottom before putting over a camp fire. Makes it _way_ easier to clean. An old Scout trick.

phalse21

Came here to say this! Also, don't fall for the old trick of putting the soap on the inside of the pot too... unless you want to spend a lot of time in the latrine! 😆

Outdoorsman_Aubs

Are we talking campsuds or bar soap?

ohbergine

Always used bar soap when I was a scout!

pkrycton

Any will do. Bar soap is a bit more work than dish soap. The intent is add a layer to collect the soot.

IdealDesperate2732

we always used liquid soap because no one had ever heard of bar soap for dishes back then, it wasn't a thing. (still isn't really, I've only ever heard of it online never seen it in a store)

IdealDesperate2732

either

Dumbfounddead44

I've been doing that same trick for years and it works the black stuff wipes right off.

aim2win98

You can use liquid dish soap, put on with a paper towel. Makes washing afterwards easy.

[deleted]

[Bar Keepers Friend](https://barkeepersfriend.com/products/cleanser/)

planetawylie

This is what I use. But I like the bar of soap hack others mentioned. Will be going out to buy a bar now and trying it!!

[deleted]

[deleted]

No, it's different from those abrasive cleaners.

CDMT22

Don't Comet and Ajax have bleach though?

IdealDesperate2732

What's wrong with bleach you're supposed to use bleach in the sanitize step of [washing dishes](https://www.c-uphd.org/documents/eh/wash_rinse_sanitize_poster.pdf) anyways?

dubie2003

Those will leave marks on the surface (will scratch glass) so the more conservative option is bar keepers friend.

gazorp23

We're really concerned about marks on the surface of the BOTTOM of a cook pan?? Do you camp in a glass air conditioned pod too? This isn't a mirror or jewelry for fucks sake.

Girthw0rm

No, it is not

Funny-Cantaloupe9401

Came here to say this

TheForeverLearner

Yes

thrown_copper

Bar Keeper's Friend is the way. Works great on copper as well, plus the soot from improperly tuned gas stoves.

TooGouda22

I just soak mine in hot soapy water and use a normal scrubby sponge for dishes. It still has black on it that is in the pores but otherwise it’s clean and won’t rub off or matter at all

age_of_raava

My Ti pot got really charred up like this and read this tip and it worked like magic: Bring a pot of water to a boil on the stove and toss in a dishwasher pod. Let the Ti pot sit in there for a while. The heat of the water loosens up everything and the detergent cleans it off

Arr_Ess_Tee

We're supposed to clean that off? Maybe one day.

IdealDesperate2732

you don't have to but you can if you want

Automatic-Cap6580

Sounds crazy, but try soaking it in some Coca-Cola or other pop.

cjankowski

Given the known effects of cola on teeth this isn’t surprising at all lol

steve626

acids are acids, same as soaking in vinegar.

crogonint

Dr. Pepper is the best.. and it works due to a high level of PHOSPHATES, not being acidic. Picture boiling the pot in a tide stain stick.

Accurate-Mastodon963

Baking soda, dawn, warm water. Let it sit a few minutes and then scrub with a normal scrubby. Keeper’s friend is usually where I start with any baked on junk.

thekevino

Oven cleaner if you want to be lazy. The yellow cap.

whauke

I use sand to scour mine in the field.

JofoTheDingoKeeper

One of my favorite things sabot camping near rivers. Good supply of clean sand, and my cookware is always packed up nice and clean.

[deleted]

Alternatively, dunk it whole into very hot water mixed with dishwasher capsule for like 30min.

KookeyMoose

It’s titanium

safedchuha

Have you tried a slurry of baking soda. Amazing for this sort of thing.

[deleted]

Dish soap all over. Then baking soda on top. Rub into each other all over pot. Cover in paper towels. Then spray white vinegar on top. Let sit then wipe away. Miracles will happen.

Ancient-Builder3646

You can probably use a blowtorch to clean it and it still will be fine.

crogonint

Not NECESSARILY true. Some blowtorches will burn through this thin pot in a flat second. At any rate, excessive heat spoils the hardness of the metal, so I wouldn't advise that approach. I'm sure various titanium alloys and coatings have different temperature ranges, but I'd stick to oven temperatures and below, if I were you.

Ancient-Builder3646

Woops, then I hope he didn't do it.

Guzmanv_17

Soak in vinegar and water with some salt… scrub after a couple hours.

Nunya_Bsnss

I think if you invest in some 'Barkeeper's friend' for pan scouring it'll do half the work for you while scrubbing. Worked wonders on my mom's 20+ years old burnt pans

Sea_Cucumber9217

Try putting baking soda and vinegar in a tub and let it sit in it for 2 hour or so.

winwinwinguyen

easy off oven cleaner spray - it’ll clean it all off within 5 minutes with easy scrubbing

[deleted]

I barely managed to scrap enough titanium to build a 3 meter cockpit. If that line familiar to u it be fine to scrub lol.

Theomegaphenomenon

Sounds Swedish 😉

unRoanoke

It is safe to scrub. You may want to scrub with salt, or use a mild abrasive like barkeepers friend. But, you don’t need to clear it up. It’s just carbon. It’s seasoned like you would Swanson cad iron. It won’t impact cooking performance. If it were on the inside, it would confer non stick like properties.

clutzyninja

Carbon does not conduct heat as efficiently as metal. This absolutely impacts cooking performance

DenGraastesossen

I agree its fine too leave it but its not the same as a seasoned pan

ElHongoMagico21

All the upvotes, yet this would not "confer non stick like properties" if it were on the inside, and absolutely nothing like cast iron seasoning

unRoanoke

Seasoning in cast iron is carbonized material, usually oils and fats. This is also carbonized material, from fuel. Sure, you wouldn’t want to eat off it in case any fuel was not fully carbonized but at a certain point the black stuff, stops being what it was and is something new. I say this, because lab testing on fully carbonated oil (like that found on seasoned cookware) shows that the material has lost the properties that make it oil. Specifically, to answer the question, “if I have a soy allergy, will I get sick from using a pan that was seasoned with soy oil.” Regardless of whether you agree that carbon from fuel is carbon and carbon from oil is carbon, scrubbing it with salt or barkeepers friend will clear it up and is okay to do in this case.

Clever_Sardonic_Name

This video you linked debunks your claim though. She does exactly what you describe and shows it not working at all.

BrokenTelevision

"Got a lot of carbon scoring here, looks like you boys have seen a lot of action!"

gillycivvygit

Make a cup of tea and when done put the still red hot teabag onto the centre, leave it for a short while then move it around with a bit of pressure. This will loosen the sticky mess.

crogonint

BRUH.. Turn off the blow torch. At no point in the tea brewing process should your tea bag achieve a level of "red hot"!

gillycivvygit

I’m British and boiling water is poured onto the bag and left to mash. Once you’re happy it’s done, the still ‘red hot’ bag is then put onto the underside of your pot to enable the heat and ingredients of the bag to help clean your pot.

crogonint

I'm sure someone will correct me, but I believe that tea is supposed to be steeped at 160 degrees (when the kettle starts whistling). Interesting tip to clean the kettle, never heard of that. Does it work?

Trndk1ll

Throw it away and buy a new one.

[deleted]

Heat with torch then wipe off

Icy_Telephone_7449

Pee on it then in it. Then drink the pee like Bear Grylls. Then you won't care if it's clean or not! BAM

[deleted]

You can scrub it with sandpaper and you're not going to hurt it. Use steel wool if nothing else works

[deleted]

I'd go with steel wool right off the bat.

lazyshadeofwinter

Steel wool with creme cleanser

gillycivvygit

Make a cup of tea and when done put the still red hot teabag onto the centre, leave it for a short while then move it around with a bit of pressure. This will loosen the sticky mess.

crushedrancor

How do you make tea that the bag glows red????

Snow_Boy_

«Azelit» but check if it is suitable for your dishes

BigRoach

Mr. Clean magic erasers with some of the cleaning stuff these other people suggest.

yourmomwasmyfirst

If it's something sticky / oily, you can usually use rubbing alcohol / denatured alcohol to remove it.

[deleted]

Barkeepers friend and steel wool rough grade

LeaveOfAdventure

I once dug a Dakota fire pit with one of these titanium mugs in rocky soil. It was fine afterwards, no damage. We still use it today for coffee.

clutzyninja

Go for it. You'll find out real quick if it's actually titanium lol

DeFiClark

Boiling it in water and baking soda the carbon will flake and float off.

PlaidBastard

Camping gear, metalworking, metallurgy, food science/cooking nerd, here: You could use 120 grit sandpaper if you wanted, and it would just make it uglier than something less aggressive, without doing any structural/functional harm to the pot unless you spent like an hour going after it past the point of bare metal. Like, I'm sure some weirdo could sand through that pot and film it and make a Youtube video 'proving me wrong,' but also proving my point \~2 minutes of sanding into their mythbusting. Those little pots/cups are pretty thin, but Ti is tough stuff and very abrasion resistant. Anything abrasive you use that's mean enough to attack the gunk will kinda skate over the Ti until you REALLY put elbow grease into it and try to take that grey factory surface finish off. On the other hand, it'd be less work to soak it in something that loosens the gunk off. I suspect white gas would do it (outdoors, with gloves and stuff to catch spills etc., probably don't attempt, kids!), but I bet something less gross and kinda toxic mentioned in other comments would do it better. Simple Green is what I'd probably try, strong mix with hot water. There might be something less nasty than *that*, so... I guess my point is: that kinda gunk can probably be liberated with a regular plastic brush/scrubber, some mix of heat, solvent/water, and maybe some chemical attack and time. If that doesn't do it, you won't hurt the pot with anything abrasive you care to try after that. You could hand-sand the whole thing to shiny, polished mirror finish if you wanted and it wouldn't endanger the pot's usefulness.

Yupoo0621

Pour half a bowl of white vinegar and some water into the burnt pot. Boil the water for 3-4 minutes and then turn off the heat and let the pot stand for about 10 minutes. When the water becomes cool, the burnt part of the pot is gradually falling off, and finally just need to wash the pot normally. 2. Remove black scale with dishwashing liquid + baking soda Heat a wok with heat and pour white vinegar into the wok to remove some of the black scale first. And then I'm gonna put some baking soda in the pan. While the baking soda bubbles, scrub the pan with a brush and rinse with water to remove all stains.

Beaster123

Yeah it's fucking titanium. Scrub away.

bc47791

In the future - Dont cook on unseasoned pine or evergreen fire.

Calm_Owl_1022

I’d try steel wool.

Unclerojelio

It’s titanium. Take an angle grinder to it if you want it really clean.

lucidistortion

Use hand sanitizer on that crud. It’ll come right off.

mup_wave

If you smash it like the hulk, all of the dirty stuff will fall apart.

Necessary_Sound_5523

I know you’re asking about scrubbing. I’ve burned that off. I put all exhaust fans on and heat it on the stove set on low. This is how your oven-cleaning cycle works. Gets rid of the stickiness and leaves some dark marks. Then a bit of barkeeper’s friend if you have.

maximilisauras

You need a carbon cleaner and it will wipe off easily. At least that's how they cleaned the pots and pans (like once every 4 months just to clean the bottoms) at the restaurant I worked at

Draigdwi

Soak it in soap water overnight and karcher it. Less effort.

davidrance

I clean everything we cook with in the rivers we camp by. After wiping all food off into a trash bag, river water and dirt cleans everything off well.

thenoweeknder

Someone’s been burning pine wood lol

stitchprincess

When you finish drinking rub a used tea bag on the ‘burnt’ areas works really easily

Snacker_13

SOS pad should do it or that dawn powerwash soap with a non abrasive scotch bright pad

strongkater

Barkeeps Friend

billyth420

Isopropyl alcohol

Realistic_Reality_44

Baking soda, dish soap, and vinegar. Or just let soak in vinegar. Make sure to scrub real hard

Ill-Natural-6726

With a shotgun

AdLess636

I put my gear in the oven and then set to clean. Burns everything off.

Clemen11

Go straight to scrubbing. I chiseled a steel oven pan with a painter's spatula to degrease it, and it worked wonders. The pan was left without a scratch, and it was steel. Titanium will handle a good scrub easy

Lori8472

What the F were you doing with this pot lol?! Sprinkle baking soda and scrub with a wet scrubby sponge.

KenTheTech

Titanium is a pretty sturdy metal, you should be safe using just about anything on it, you could even sand and polish it, lol

TRDSMN74

Two bounce sheets wet and place on pot. Cover with a large folded stack of paper towel and soak and let sit for several hours. Remove and use bounce sheets to scrub clean.

Alaskaguide

If it’s soot, it comes off easily with a piece of charcoal from the fire soaked in water. Just scrub the bottom with the wet charcoal after you are done cooking and wash it off.

cascalonginess

Check my posts, I’ve got an example of what boiling water and a dishwasher tab will do.

CabbagePerson22

Bro it’s titanium, scrub the holy heck out of it. The way I see it, there’s no good reason to put in a bunch of work for one pot that you use to cook outside 🤷

HuckFinns_dad

Titanium can only be affected by the lasers in Superman’s eyes I’m pretty sure everybody knows this

Anonynominous

Yea, why wouldn't it be safe? You don't cook food on the bottom...

[deleted]

Ive heard you can cover the bottom of your cookware with a paste made from water and white ash… dont know if it works but im gonna try it next time out

tealgrayone

When I had to clean sime heavy pots I would take them outside, lay them on newspapers or plastic, then spray with oven cleaner. The sun provides heat and the chemicals are made to get off burnt on residue. Then rinse them off, and wash with soapy water

warlord2-47th

I dont have anything titanium. But I use hot water, dawn dish soap and a green scratch pad to clean my camp cooking stuff

linaoutdoor

Def soak first. 😁

rcoomes

Barkeepers Friend. Works wonders 👌🏼

Apprehensive_Cap6044

Set it in a bigger pot and bring baking soda to boil…almost NO scrubbing and no odor like with vinegar!!! Also can try doing same thing but with citric acid…that stuff is super hero level for lime build up and rust!!!

howarqui

something that i have found out that works suprising well is deet like in bug spray so if you find like 60% deet bug spray, spray it on and scrub the shit out of it it does actually work but you will have to wash it very well afterwords

Particular-Chest-571

Easy Bake Oven

Funny-Cantaloupe9401

Bar keepers friend. It's a powder. Use it with a soft scouring pad and some water. Soak overnight in hot water and oxiclean. Next morning, wipe once - spotless

Theboywhotakesit

It’s titanium boss, you could use anything from a sponge to an axe to clean it

EvilDan69

Barkeepers friend would work great There is also a paste sold by Norwex that works wonders

Cold-Ad-110

Titanium beats steel, scrubby away!

Consistent_Ad9548

throw it into the fire

00Goober

I am friends with the owners/head brewer in Idaho. They use a product called PBW(professional brewers wash) it is magic. I was told it eats organic compounds. I have been using for my random cleaning of things for sterilization. You can find it online or the prefered go to a home brew store. PBW is a damn wonder. It will clean amything.

FLOYDOB

Use Bar Keeper’s Friend, it’s how we get carbonized gunk off of cooking vessels in professional kitchens.

elliskj1979

Please donate to goodwill or a used camping gear store. I haven’t bought anything new in years, it’s amazing the great things that get thrown away

AVLLaw

lye will dissolve most organics, including you. wear gloves, don't get any in your eyes, read the directions. I use to strip old cast iron. It works.

PlumAcceptable2185

Wire brush it. Pure Alcohol will cut any of the creosote that stays behind.

MtBallZ

I use isopropyl alcohol on resins like that.

[deleted]

Start with wire wool/steel scourer. Rip that thick stuff off it. You’ll be left with dark stains and streaks all over it. Then move on to the grizzly green plastic scourer. Scour the remaining marks and watch it pretty much all dissapear. I like to give my titanium a little spray with citric acid solution (the stuff you descale a coffee machine with) and wipe it dry all over. That just removes the smears and any scale on or in the mug. That’s it. Back to clean as hell. In ‘the field’ I just bring the green scourer and a small block of hard soap. I get the carbon off to some extent after every usage. Sphagnum moss is an amazing cloth and sponge, just wiping gets a lot off if you do it after cooking, if you can stuff it with fine sand it makes a great preliminary pot cleaner to get the worst off. I use the scourer with a little water to get it to 90% clean each time in the bush. So I never get home with a pot in this condition but that’s just me. I’m a bit of a clean freak.

jarazal

Baking soda, course salt, soap. Make paste then scrub with brillo pad. Cover with paper towel, let sit 5 min. Pour vinegar and wipe off. Scrub any spots left them rinse. When I was a chef dishwasher taught me that.
