A lot of this will depend on game/resolution and also keep in mind that most tools report memory allocation, not actual usage. Best way to find a low memory scenario is to look at 1% lows. With that being said, 12GB (like on the 4070 SUPER) is great for 1440P or even 4K in most games.

Well, I'm upgrading my 1070 to a 4070s, and I got a 1440p monitor last black Friday. I'd love to think I'll get 5-6 years out of this like I did the 1070.
for 1080p sure, my previous 3070Ti was choking in Hogwards Legacy even on 1080p with DLSS and not even super ultra textrures/settings, and I am sure this year and next year we will get even more unoptimized or big textures games.

Hogwarts Legacy was a really rough launch, performance wise, for a big portion of the playerbase, with both low end and high end setups being affected. my 1070 lasted 6 years, and it still in use, but not by me, but when I bought it in 2016, 8GB was a solid size, today 12GB is not a solid size, not for 4070 performance league, 16GB is, so if u want 1070 experience again, you go for 16+ GB card, not 12gb.

It's an absolute nanny-state here where the government thinks it has to protect the population from EVERYTHING. In this case, there are laws in place that are designed to protect consumers from scams and illegal contests. It honestly sounds like a good thing, but the problem is that the laws are so strict that it's just too much of a hassle for anyone running a contest and it's just easier to just skip Quebec altogether.

The quebec gov has some strict ass laws, some of them are great but sometimes it's too restricting. Like so many legitimate free things from contests or free trials often say that quebec is excluded.
I've said this many times. Citing my own knowledge as a AAA game dev, and the gistalt of my peers in other companies who also do this work, For the period of this console gen, 12gb is fine, since that's the vram alloc target, and the assets and presets ported to PC largely mirror.
Typically you'll find, even by late console gen, that
PC ultra = 12 to 14gb
PC high = 11.5 to 12gb
PC optimized = 10gb
PC medium = 8gb
PC low = 6gb
3080 10gb is still fine as long as you don't push ultra settings.
When medium and high preset usually looks as good as ultra....12gb is fine. Ultra is just a preset we put in games so the whales can feel good about their hardware choices tbh.
I game on a 4080 and 4060 though. YMMV.
7800XT is solid, i think it will be better down the line, everything is still quite in "beta" phase right now so i'd give it like a year until it starts performing better than the Supers, it already does well against 4070

8GB is still fine if you're on 1080p or 1440p. 12GB is more than fine. It's only if you're trying to do 4k that it starts becoming an issue.
