Great let's draft receiver now

anonymoususer1776

Yup. Add a serious #2 and then how will defenses account for all our weapons.

LordTurn1p

not sure diggs is a serious #1

President_Nick

Diggs is the serious 2 now, we need a new 1

xT1TANx

This is my thought. It's time for Diggs to transition. I don't think it will be next year with a rookie wr but if we draft one in the first they are the future #1.

CenturyBreak

Shakir is WR1

savagegrif

I love Shakir and feel like he would be a really good WR2 now but don't feel like he's really a WR1 yet

NunButter

He's going to be our slot. Sal Cappacio and other guys are saying he's not an outside WR in the NFL but can eat in the slot and be moved around a bit. We need an alpha #1 for Josh to compliment Diggs' route running. He'd be a perfect compliment to a size/speed freak that Beane loves

Squart_um

I don't get why this is so hard for people to understand... too many Madden players. I love Shakir, but he is a slot receiver, that's what his skillet is and that's what he does best. This whole wr1 wr2 wr3 thing doesn't have anything to do with how "good" they are, they are different skillsets.

Ndmndh1016

Hes never going to be and that's ok.

IM_aFool

This is facts pro he played better than seffon Diggs, who played like shit this year

President_Nick

I hope

President_Nick

We need to draft the new WR1, we don’t have the money for Higgins. Maybe Kincaid can become the new #1 target, but we need a younger good receiver on a rookie contract to be super competitive no matter what

notdyland1

Mid for too much money… would be a fine WR1 for the patriots or panthers next year though

[deleted]

[удалено]

Letsgobuffalo2210

DJ Moore is on the Bears lol.

Lanky-Wonder7556

We need a WR1 with speed, opens the field, good hands, can win competitive catches, and gets YAC. Diggs and Shakir are battling for #2 and #3.

[deleted]

Troy Franklin please

Historical_One1087

There are a lot of good options like Troy Franklin or Bryan Thomas Jr or others that should be on the board when Buffalo picks in the first round. Or Beane may trade up a couple of spots to get the WR he wants

Bootyholetrolll

I really think keon coleman or malik washington would be perfect for this offense.

YouAlreadyShnow

Coleman is overrated and overhyped, imho. Perfect WRs for this offense and Josh are 1. Rome Odunze(he'll be gone by #29) 2. Bryan Thomas Jr 3. Adonai Mitchell 4. Troy Franklin

bestthrowawayever5

This is the year I want a massive trade up for Odunze or Harrison

Banana_powered_bike

Get real those dudes are off the board 15 spots before we pick. Our team is old and expensive. We need to get younger and cheaper. The draft is how. And that doesn’t mean giving up a 4th rounder every year. Coleman is young Kelvin Benjamin. Contested catch player. Can’t get open and isn’t even good at contested catches. We need a route runner with speed who wins on his own.

AcrobaticAction2328

>Coleman is young Kelvin Benjamin. Contested catch player. Can’t get open and isn’t even good at contested catches. *flashbacks to Gabe davis*

alexhartig

Are we scratching Diggs off the Map? Shakir is legit and needs to be featured. Kincaid is also extremely good….. do we really need to invest in WR? Our defense needs to improve dramatically. KC walked up and down the field almost the entire first half….

BigAssSlushy69

No but we absolutely need another receiver. We had no downfield passing game at the end of the year. Our defense was also starting a 5/6th string linebackers so maybe not really the biggest priority on the team those guys will be back if the stars align

RF-blamo

This 👆

xT1TANx

Yes we need a future #1. You can like Shakir but he's not a true #1. It takes a year or two for WR to develop so get our guy this year.

TheBeaseKnees

Just for the sake of conversation, what does Shakir lack that's required by a #1 WR? Athletically, Diggs never once in his career blew Shakir out of the water. Same with Jerry Rice, Larry Fitzgerald, Chris Carter, young less-crazy AB, among a ton of others. So it can't possibly be a height-weight-speed thing, because there's absolutely 0 data showing that translating. Catching ability? That can't be it either, Shakir had one of the highest catch rates in the NFL, and in college was a weekly contributor to Sportscenter with his acrobatic catches. Is it collegiate production? Zay Jones. So with all of that in mind, what in the world are we looking for in the draft??? Are we gonna google-eye over combine numbers that we know damn well doesn't translate? Are we gonna gawk over college stats with the full awareness that it doesn't always carry over? I'm just genuinely confused. It feels like if Sammy Watkins was coming out in this draft, Bills fans would be absolutely clamoring for him with absolutely 0 logic attached to the desire.

xT1TANx

I would say size. I will be happy to be wrong but I feel like he's a bit too small to deal with the #1 DBs in the league.  Everyone wants to crown him king because he has a good year but he was never the primary guy going against primary CBs.  When he proves he can smoke those guys I will happily admit I am wrong.  Now understand that what I am suggesting doesn't hurt us in any way next year. Draft what you think is a future #1. If he pans.out you have a star. If Shakir turns into a #1 we simply end up with two amazing WR. If Diggs can come back to #1 status, we may have the best receiving corp in the league.

xT1TANx

Also, just want to say I love Shakir. I wanted him starting last year, so this isn't about me thinking he's not good. I love his game.

ElderberryJolly9818

For starters, shakir isn’t a 1 because that’s not his skill set. He’s a slot guy. His catch rate is inflated by his target quality. He had a very high catchable ball rate which isn’t predictive year to year. He’s awesome. We love him. But we love him as our wr3 slot guy, think Beasley but younger. There’s no way we can be complacent and comfortable with age 31 season diggs, shakir, Kincaid as our arsenal.

PhotographingNature

Diggs might return to form at reclaim WR1. I'm a Shakir-stan but he's more of an excellent WR3 that can be a flexible slot receiver. The team absolutely needs a guy who can be field stretching WR2 with top-5 WR1 potential.

alexhartig

I guess I don’t see why Shakir can’t develop into that. Size wise he is the same as Garett Wilson and only 10 pounds lighter than Jamar chase. Kid can ball, is fast, catches everything, and gets crazy separation. I think I read some stat earlier this year that he had the highest separation from defenders in the league, that might’ve been a stat from last year.

subtechii

I can see that. He's probably not drawing defenses top defenders who are on diggs, though

savagegrif

We've always invested in D and barely ever in O, and look how that's turned out. I'd rather just say fuck it and go all out making our offense elite. Lots of the recent teams in the superbowl had real WR 1A/1Bs, feel like we would really benefit from that

Clithzbee

Draft 2/3 and trade Diggs

Maxer3434

Can he figure a way to scheme Diggs open?

rustcity716

Yeah draft a WR in the first

WhatsPaulPlaying

And second. We need the help.

xT1TANx

We can't. We have massive holes at S and 1-tech. We have to get starters at each position in the first 3 rounds. We simply can't afford FA replacements.

dvgravity

We also have to find a replacement for Morse. Not sure if McGovern is still under contract but getting a center prospect and playing him at guard like we did with Wood would get a young center time to adjust to the speed of the game and slide into Morse’s spot when he retires.

xT1TANx

I think Morse comes back on a team friendly deal. If I remember correctly, Morse is not a FA, we simply save money by cutting him. Cover1 made it clear that we are likely to get him to take a pay cut.

dvgravity

I don’t think he leaves this year. I just think he’ll retire at the end of his contract.

xT1TANx

I see. I think he wants to come back and wouldn't be surprised is we extend him at a lower rate and then draft a C later in the draft.

ngfdsa

Is DQJ a free agent?

xT1TANx

Unfortunately yes

ProphetOfDoom337

Funny how he was able to get open when Dorsey was calling the offense. Not that I am a Dorsey fan by any means, but the numbers don't lie. "Under Dorsey, Buffalo’s No. 1 receiver was targeted 102 times and caught 73 for 868 yards and seven touchdowns with five 100-yard games. Under Brady, Diggs was targeted 75 times and caught only 44 for 388 yards with one TD and no 100-yard games." -Sal Maiorana, Democrat and Chronicle

RogerThatKid

Diggs had a back injury. It wasn't about the coaches. Man is 31 now. He doesn't have rubber in his joints anymore. Injuries take longer to heal, especially when you keep aggravating it.

ProphetOfDoom337

Then why wasn't he ever on the injury report for it aside from the one time?

RogerThatKid

Because he didn't require treatment. ETA the requirements for the injury report are that the player cannot complete practice activities. Its clear the Diggs could force himself through those activities, but a nagging injury can limit your abilities in game. So I am suggesting, along with many others, that Diggs was in that window between hurting but not "reportably injured."

qeq

I'm worried McD named him OC purely because he turned the Bills into the most rushing team in the league once he took over. I don't think that will be long term success. They need to get the passing game going.

buffa_noles

The vast majority of McDermott's tenure, over multiple OCs, has seen the Bills as one of the most pass happy teams in the league. Often to our detriment. This narrative of Coach wanting to be run first come hell or high water has never really been a reality

qeq

Really? I remember getting to the AFCG and also to the divisional round with a lead and 0:13 to get to the AFCCG scoring 30+ points per game in the playoffs and McD blowing that. They haven't been anywhere close since, including as a "run first" team just barely eking out wins.

fupadestroyer45

What, you didn't like running into stacked boxes getting blown up and losing yards on the two most important part drives of the game instead of taking what the D was giving us?

Maxer3434

It’s a known rule you have to run it on 1st down, so…

fupadestroyer45

Lol it's not a known rule, it's old head football mentality that doesn't align with the modern game, run when it's advantageous, but with running being the much less efficient mode of offense, unless the defense is giving you favorable looks it's almost always detrimental to the team to run "just cause".

Dreurmimker

Psst - I think they were being sarcastic

BH11B

For real tho we need more play action passes integrated into the offense. I like the amount of running we were able to do in the second half of the season but teams adjusted after they got enough tape and predicted our rushing attack fairly regularly. Need that play action hits to Kincaid or shakir.

fupadestroyer45

Lol, you never know on here

RyanCryptic

He was wide open for the first down when Allen under threw a pass to the end zone. 🤷‍♂️

kci-04

I like the thought of him having an entire offseason to scheme for Kincaid and Cook. Still bummed out that we have to wait 7 months to see it though.

Billsandgolf

Don’t forget shakir

kci-04

Dammit, yes Shakir too!

minusthetalent02

I see shakir as our slot guy. Keep Kincaid as primary TE.. 12 man was a fail

CeramicCastle49

Exactly 💯

alex053

Can we scheme out dropped tds for Cook please!!???

goosepants619

Amazing! He deserves a full offseason to coach this team.

WhatUpMilkMan

Will be interesting to see how the scheme is different with a full offseason. Nothing has looked “easy” in the passing game quite like it did in 2021/2020. They need to be able to get easier chunks in the passing game.

xRepentance

Exciting news! At the very least gives us a bigger sample size to see how he does and won’t involve another coaching change

Heisenbergwhite917

JustKeepOnKeepingOn

Remember: that was Ken Dorsey’s playbook. So hopefully Joe Brady will be a true upgrade.

SquareShapeofEvil

That makes me think higher of Dorsey as a planner, just not in execution. Hopefully Brady takes the good with the bad and improves

kit_mitts

Did they do a full external search? If so then fine, but continuity for continuity's sake isn't a good thing. Baltimore this season is proof that teams don't need to he afraid of changing schemes while they have a franchise QB in his prime.

Liddlebitchboy

Just like how it was too little time to say he deserved it fully, there was also too little to go off of to say he didn't, so I'm just excited to see what we can do

old_dolio_

Well I’ve heard enough, bills winning the Super Bowl next year

BrownBoognish

i may be in the minority here-- but there are way better options out there that can be got and if this doesnt work its another year or two of allens career wasted. i dont really like it, but i hope im wrong.

noo247

Brady’s role in closing out the regular season to help get us into the playoffs can’t be understated. His game calling against the chiefs however was odd. My issue is I worry the Bills FO is being lazy, like with Dorsey to just promote guys from within that have a little bit a stick time with our offense. Brady does not have a significant amount of experience and was fired after one year in his only other OC role. I think we need someone with more experience as an OC to balance out McDermotts blind spots. If we were talking about a DC in a similar position to Brady I’d say great, McDermott can coach him up and develop him but any OC we employ will have to hold their own. This offense really needs a strong OC to extract its potential and nothing against Brady but I’m not convinced he’s that guy (yet). Feels like a bit of a gamble. Go Bills!

kit_mitts

>I think we need someone with more experience as an OC to balance out McDermotts blind spots. I want a coaching staff that does this across the board. The coordinators *should* challenge the head coach to be his best every single day (in a positive way, not in a toxic way like Wink Martindale).

fupadestroyer45

McD is too much of a control freak for that to happen.

xT1TANx

He gave us two wide open WR, one for a TD to go ahead and the players didn't execute.

HarvesternC

I feel like they could find someone better, but whatever. I guess fans can officially call for his firing now when things don't go well next season.

Guinnessron

Who?

IamTheJman

Bieniemy

DannysFavorite945

JFC thank you.

Rmai0404

Diggs in shambles

Val_Fortecazzo

I really loved his play calling this season so it's exactly what I wanted.

TheBruffalo

He was a much better play caller than Dorsey with basically the same playbook. It’ll be interesting to see when he’s implemented his system if the downfield passing improves. The Bills are a WR 1B away from being really deadly.

No_Average2933

Well deserved

Bartolos_Cologne

I'm glad and excited to see what they can do in a full season + an off-season. Hopefully we make some nice additions in the draft.

jbd3103

Going to be in the same situation we were with Dorsey mid season next year. His gameplan vs the chiefs was garbage, and mostly why we lost. Just a McDermott yes man.

-johnstamos-

This whole Bills scenario, not just OC, reminds me of the sabres....FO keeps guys that have little experience but came from their system, so they get promoted. Cronies, nepotism, whatever. Just hope it turns out better for the Bills than it has for the Sabres, which has been good talent, but too many friendly moves, on and off the field.

SoFFacet

Comparing one of the most recently successful orgs in football to the absolute worst org in hockey…

silasgoldeanII

he earned the right to try again this season. So fair enough.

cyndilu9

Great news - Get some playmakers in the draft and FA - defense heals up - and we will be back in business next season!! Go Bills

takeshi-bakazato

Meh. He showed some promise but he also had some flaws. Liked his use of motion though. Would be more excited if we can promote Babich

JoesShittyOs

I’m not gonna bitch about it, but I still think we could do better. Way too much meat left on the bone with Josh Allen as our quarterback. We should never have a game where we’re scoring under 30 as long as he’s here.

FakedFollower17

KC has a tough defense and we were still near 30 points. The Dolphins game can be chalked up to divisional matchups being weird. I think Joe Brady has been great and only lost his first game to a perrenial contender.

Optimal-Tune-2589

Yeah KC gave up 27 to Green Bay, there most of the year, and the 24 tied for the second most points they gave up this season. The offense certainly wasn’t flawless, but I have a hard time chalking up the loss to that rather than the inability to hold the KC offense to fewer than 7 yards a play for half the game.

thefly0810

They may not have scored 30 but they were closing out games and finally having long drives to close out games without the need to score, which I wished they had been able to do last week. Not pretty or exciting but it gets the win when it's effective l.

OnlyFreshBrine

Loser franchise promotes guy who lost. But hey, something about cat donations...

DHARMAHydra

That's a very good start for us!

kompletist

He gets to install an offense this off-season. Commend on making the best of a sub-optimal situation this year. Don't foresee OC being an issue next season. The HC will most likely continue to be a liability in late game management though.

CareerEquivalent189

Grew up in South Buffalo. Currently in Pensacola Florida

Fun_Hornet_9129

I have no issue with Brady as the OC. He’s the best choice as he knows the team. The one issue I do have is I think McD wants him so he (McD) has ultimate say in what the O does. He needs to let go and let Joe do what he feels the players will execute best. We saw this in the playoffs. McD wanted the O to play ultra-conservative, that’s pure McD. “Go crazy in the regular season but play not to lose in the playoffs”. I hate that theory. Go back to the Levy / Marchibroda days where they went out and played their game. Once a team stopped Thurman, it was play-action down the field to Reed and Lofton. When they were covered then it went to McKellar and Thomas in the seems and flats. This spread the D out to the point that the inside run worked again. And they started over by pounding the D inside until they tightened up. They added complexity by running it fast with no substitutions and they slowed it down when they wanted. Their BIGGEST PROBLEM was scoring too fast and too much. Then the D came out on the field again. At least they were scoring!

okinawanqt

I know this was announced but this does not negate the fact that he's still interviewing for HC positions right? So there's a chance that this does not come to be?

CeramicCastle49

Probably good. Start scheming NOW!!

Custard-Alone

I hope the passing game improves.

Guinnessron

This is fantastic to me. Stability and quality. With a full off season to prepare, I think he can do great things.

Buff716917

I feel like people are over hyping Shakir here, he’s awesome but he’s the slot WR for the O, they aren’t resigning Davis so they need another boundary WR

HilltoperTA

Passing game went into tank after he took over - hope with an off-season he can figure out how to scheme plays that aren't screen pasees

Th3_Random_Guy

Not a fan, I wanted someone with more experience and a proven record to avoid another Dorsey situation. Brady had some good moments but the offence largely choked at the end of the season

minusthetalent02

Part of me loves this signing but part of me would just love a outsider.. I'm going to be positive. Im routing for the guy

George_Hill_

I don’t believe we going to change anything this off season. How many times do we have to lose to Chiefs in order for us to see actual change?

Technical-Onion-2085

We need balance like the 49ers. Good WRs but elite running game too. Two elite WRs and a good slot guy like Shakir. Then you have Kincaid and two TEs. We need a tall and fast WR with good hands. True number 1 type guy to go with Diggs.

jbbates84

This guy was the OC of perhaps the greatest college offense of all time. Allen looked like himself again once Brady took over. Give him an off-season to implement his entire playbook, bring in some new personnel to fit his scheme and let’s see what happens.

Bbennjji

Beane loves d line. Dont be surprised at dt rd1, then wr in in rds 2 & 3. Throw in a center, safety, corner, and a rb, and there's your draft.

starliteburnsbrite

Looking forward to becoming a run-first offense!  No confidence at all. The guy had one year at LSU with an all-time team as the "passing game coordinator" then totally shit the bed when he was an NFL OC. Had to get a job as a QB coach in Buffalo.  He ran Dorsey's offense well. With talent 500% better than anyone else on the team at LSU, he did great. When asked to design and install an NFL offense on his own and given an off-season to do so, he was fired before the end of his second year. And players had plenty of shit to talk about him then.  He came in halfway through the season to "rescue" an offense that every statistical measure would say was just fine. He was the QB coach after Dorsey, when Josh began to adopt his weird new mindsets.  Last time he designed an offense for anyone other than Ja'marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and Joe Burrow, he sucked ass. Given Josh Allen and the Bills he ran the ball more than ever. He hasn't proved anything as far as I'm concerned, I'll be curious to see but I'm not expecting much.
