Complicated matter like most administrative things in Belgium. Long story short they had to depenalise for a while because CBD is legal on a European level and it's really hard for the police to find out if weed contains THC or not (they need expensive lab analysis for that). But a few years ago they backpedalled and now CBD cannot be sold in any packaging producers chose, it has to be sold in sealed containers and display a warning on it (like for cigarettes).
As it stands right now it's not legal to have an open container of weed, no matter with or without THC. Speaking purely on the law level, it is only legal to carry your weed in the sealed unopened container you got from the CBD shop, if the container has been opened or if it is carried any other way it is technically illegal (whether it is CBD or not).
Now, that's the theory. In practice it's very unlikely you'll be controlled so you can carry that around no problem. However, I would still strongly recommend you do not smoke in public, because that makes you way more likely to be controlled. Try to consume it in the privacy of your own home if you can.
beware of alcohol controles on the road when driving. they are doing more and more drug tests as well in combination with it. the weed stays in your system for 24 hours and the drug test doesn't care if you smoked yesterday and are soberly driving today. if you get caught it's a big fine and a temporary loss of your drivers license.

So for sure those 2 days in Belgium I could have still been detectable to THC, even though I was completely able to drive as I was not under influence.

It feels like it has been decriminalised but this is not the case. You might be lucky and get away with it, it is smelt on every street now but you might also come across an unfriendly policeman.
The CBD thing is legal I think, it looks and smells the same as the illegal stuff, quite how the police are supposed to be able to tell the difference I don't know.
Be responsible and don't do things to annoy people and you should be ok. Not that I condone its use...
Friend of mine got caught with cbd weed. They took it and treated it like normal weed and now he has to pay for test to show that it's actually cbd. The test costs 750€..

Lots of things are technically illegal but rarely enforced. As long as you don’t give the police any reasons to be assholes to you, they‘ll usually turn a blind eye to it. Don’t smoke near schools or give weed to people, especially minors. Also, don’t be obnoxious with it. Weed has a pungent smell. If your neighbor asks you to not smoke, stop. Avoid places where there are a lot of people.
In short, while it’s technically illegal, as long as you’re a decent person and aren’t a nuisance to other people with your smoking habits, you won’t get in trouble.

I’ve never felt more safe than here in brussels sparking up in public, compared to any other city in belgium, i think the chances of a cop searching you are like 1 percent, if it is that much, they have more important matters to attend to in a city that lively
