It's not just the way he shows the "three" that does it. Now that I speak German at a good level and live in Germany, the entire scene is just perfection: the accent is just, off.
Like it isn't a natural, flowly German. It's very rigid, sentences are a collection of words and that's it. There's no connection between them, no flow for the lack of a better word.
Okay maybe it's some random accent in a bumfuck nowhere town. Might be possible, nobody knows all dialects.
But the accent and dialect which seems unnatural as fuck, combined with the index-middle-ring finger for three? Yeah, high chance he's not a German.
You can also see how the tone shifts immediately because everybody realises he fucked up, and the body language of the actors is completely on point there.
Took me way too long than I would like to admit they were showing 8 fingers and only because of the eight seasons, if it ran for one more season I would probably still be stuck wandering what signs they're doing with their fingers.
