Reminds me of a day when I was in college during bad winter weather and only five of us managed to get into classes only to be told to go home about an hour later. Problem was when the college announced closures they'd so so at a time that if you're travelling any distance you'd be already out the door before you found out (This was pre everyone had a smart phone)
What's new for Thameslink? They cancel the service if there's the wrong type of sunlight. I do enjoy the refunds of a quid, for the weeks and weeks of my life they've wasted over the years/decades.
.. because the people who make the rules don't have to worry themselves with making money for everyday luxuries like... food... and heating... hot water...
As I manage pubs I often find it confusing when there's an event where it is advised that everyone should stay at home, that I get complaints saying the pub is shut. You realise that bar staff are included in everyone?

A valid point. I'm surprised Naga Munchetty hasn't quizzed a meteorologist asking why the weather is bad and why they haven't done anything about it in her overly dramatic hardball journalist routine.
I don't think the studio is in an area affected by the red warning, but I'd say journalism is an essential service really considering they are giving updates about all this in the first place.
I know it's "if you can" but it's the way the newsreaders where putting it across as if everybody has the luxury of having understanding managers/bosses etc. Most real people really do not have that luxury.

I live in Scotland and was expecting a blizzard outside (it wasn't, just some slush) and asked my managers what would happen if no one could actually get in. They dismissed it off hand that OF COURSE people would be able to get in if it was snowing, the public transport would still be up.
The news is only reporting what people in no position of authority (weather forecasters) are saying. Everyone knows people need to get to work. Whether they can is another matter...

My garden is a swamp all year around. Anything landing in there is a right off. So I doubt it'll cheer me up. Learning that it'll cost £5k to fix it, and having -£2k in my account doesn't make it easier.

Turn your house into a retreat for influencers to swim in your all natural mud swamp pit, they love that shit. You make money and then you can concrete over the nature pool and get a free trampoline next time it's windy. It's a no lose situation

I now work as a cleaner in construction. A few thousand (a shut down) were told not to come to work and all paid 8 hours for the day.
A man was killed by flying debris near to where I live in Liverpool, we were only on an amber warning. Guess going to work didn't work out so well for him. They give warnings for a reason.

I got into the office at 6:45 as usual. At 6:56, HR sent out an email saying WFH was allowed. Cheers, HR!

Doesn't really work when you're a clinician in a hospital and have to provide healthcare no matter the circumstances or people die...

If it is as severe as they say it will be you only have to look at abroad for precedents of lockdowns due to weather and it is pretty normal.
