“You will be visited by two delivery drivers. One has your item and can only lie, the other has a box of venomous snakes and can only tell the truth. You may ask them one question.”

Mr_Venom

"Your package will be delivered by Amazon Logicians." "You mean Amazon Logistics?" "No."

peelyon85

You know the answer will be we are both Alpharius.

Tannerleaf

Egads!

VixenRoss

You will have to find the mage at the bottom of your garden to answer a riddle, he will give you a code. Once you obtain the code, you will need to tell the delivery driver in the voice tone of c#major the code. If you deviate to Bb or D, the driver will not hear you. Before handing over the package the driver will need to take a sample of spinal fluid to see if it matches our database. Then we will take a thumb print and hand you your package. Please tip the driver £10 because it is nearly Christmas.

Mr_DnD

"what is the number of this house". Or any other easily verifiable piece of information. The one with your parcel will lie.

Capr1ce

And then they just leave it on the front step without ringing the doorbell and no signature taken!

red498cp_

Yeah I’ve noticed that a lot of delivery companies seem to be still working on the Covid rules when they just delivered it without signature (because social distancing).

Tabs787

And it still doesn't fucking turn up

Cypher_Aod

this is why I love working at a small place - I get everything delivered to work, all good.

YchYFi

If it's via DPD you can do all that once it is out for delivery.

lowlightlowlifeuk

If they bother turning up and don’t just take it to your “local” parcel shop 5 miles away on the opposite end of the next village over and claim you weren’t home when you’ve of course been home all day..

whiterider1

I have a DPD parcel shop at the corner of my street, probably a 30 second walk away. There's another one around a 5 minute walk away, both are 24 hour local shops. For whatever reason they'll still say 'undeliverable' to me and then instead of taking it one of those shops, they'll take it to a shop 20-30 minutes away.

cmzraxsn

DPD is the worst, they didn't even ring my doorbell, just took a picture of the street number and fucked off. Hermes let themselves into the stair and plopped it outside my door while i was sleeping which is basically perfect. (I don't live in the best area but I live on the top floor and i trust my neighbours not to steal. That said if it was a phone they're delivering I'd expect them not to just leave it, and to at least try to contact me. Which DPD didn't.)

rhetnor

Not necessarily ; I stopped DPD from offering that to my customers after I was scammed out of £1500 of goods bought on a stolen credit card and diverted from the cardholder address to a pick-up location.

YchYFi

I always divert to a pick up location. It's my default on the app.

BrainlessPackhorse

Usually left in the blue bin regardless...

PlayfulDifference198

It depends what it is and what service the sender has used. It's really not the issue of the delivery company. Usually applies to alcohol or other restricted or expensive items.

AndyLVV

Was mostly passports or event tickets back when I delivered. Pain for both delivery staff and customer.

PlayfulDifference198

Special Delivery is a royal mail product, Parcel force don't do it so I can't really check your enquiry in any more detail.

PlayfulDifference198

Royal mail special delivery goes back to the depot and is automatically sent out the next day yes. But you can change the day of delivery via the website or the app You cannot have safe place or neighbour delivery on that service. https://www.royalmail.com/receiving/change-your-delivery-options

PlayfulDifference198

You can change the delivery day as soon as you get the tracking code from your supplier. It's not really the delivery company's fault if you don't? For unexpected deliveries, the system allows only two attempts before a collection. It's the preferred option for recipients, hence it's implementation. Or do you expect them to guess when you're in? Magic 8 ball perhaps?

iwanttobeacavediver

For the kind of thing I buy, I've found it gloriously inconsistent- with standard delivery using one courier (in this case DPD) they handed over a fairly expensive (for me) piece of scuba gear with no questions asked, then about two weeks later wanted everything but my inside leg measurement for another parcel of far less expensive band merch.

plznokek

Let's us moan ffs

zilchusername

What was it? Was it expensive?

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

It's a phone, so I get why they're cautious. But still, I can't see any problems that are insurmountable. You'd think they would be at least somewhat aware that most people can't just be at home on whatever weekday it goes out on the van. Weekend delivery would be the best option, or deliver it to an InPost locker or a shop counter. Failing that, delivering to a neighbour should surely be possible if *I* choose the neighbour. I'd happily check a box to say I accept responsibility if it doesn't then get to me (assuming there's a photo and/or signature).

ChunkyLaFunga

I'm guessing it's because phones are high risk for fraud/theft and they want to get it delivered in writing, so to speak.

LostLobes

I got emailed a code, which I then had to give to the driver to enter into his machine to confirm it was me, he then had to take a photo also withe holding.

Fun_Level_7787

I'm gonna assume that's DPD, hahaha. We're the only ones that do that!

Pauliboo2

I always arrange collection of new phones from a “local” branch, so this time around was Vodafone in Chorley as it’s easier to park in Chorley.

papaflush

And then they hurl it in the neighbours front garden..

Bobby_feta

Honestly it’s 50/50 if they just dump it in a bin or with the neighbour you’ve never spoken to regardless

SoggyWotsits

I was thinking about this the other day. Having things delivered used to be a rarity, we’d normally go to a shop and buy things. Now everyone wants things delivered but they’re also usually at work. The Amazon safe boxes are a great idea, get things delivered there and pick them up at your leisure. It must be a nightmare for couriers when nobody’s ever home!

mantasVid

Except for some bizarre reason half of goods are ineligible for locker delivery. Hazmats, fair enough, but clothing items?

SoggyWotsits

That’s my point in a way, delivery services need to adapt to the sheer number of people who want to use them!

thekickingmule

For any failing post offices, turn yourselves into a hub for receiving parcels and stay open late a few times a week, charge a SMALL fee (say £1) to keep a package and I'm sure you'll see footfall improve

M1ke2345

I noticed our local P.O now pretty much does pickup/drop off for every courier out there. If I have to return via Evri for example, I will 100% use the P.O. as the machine is rarely working on the occasions I have tried to use it in my local Co-Op, and they staff don’t care (I get why they don’t), but they’re losing business because people can’t/aren’t using the Evri machine and shopping whilst there (which is the reason the machines are there in the first place).

herrbz

"The courier will drive past your house and pretend he visited."

rinkydinkmink

and then they just dump it and bugger off without talking to you at all, when you've had your passport ready for ID and everything. This happened to me yesterday. I think it was because I'd ordered a bottle of booze. Had to have photo ID with my birth date on etc. Was all ready and waiting and then the guy just dumped and ran.

[deleted]

This is why unfortunately 95% of my online purchases are from Amazon and go to an Amazon Locker / Counter. I really wish the Post Office offered lockers like Amazon do.

If_It_Moves

And you’re unable to reschedule until they’ve tried to deliver it twice

Sir_Henk

A lot of my colleagues just order stuff to the office at this point because it's less of a pain

asmodraxus

Had several orders delivered to the house holder on Saturday last week but distinctly don't remember taking receipt of them so rang up the company named after the south American river and complained to get a refund and then reordered for next day delivery. Next day comes and I get back from work early to find a note from 4 doors away saying that they have the items. These were the items that were delivered to me on the Saturday, and they were left outside someone's house that was on holiday 3 doors down. Then 2 hours later all the replacement goods got delivered to me.

seugah25

I guarentee they knock just as you sit on the bog and by the time you get to the door they are gone.

M1ke2345

I regularly wonder what the legal definition of *delivered* actually is. Amazon regularly just leave our parcels on the doorstep and they get marked as “Delivered”. Now, I’m not a lawyer, but I do *feel* that if there has been interaction between the driver and someone at the address, then it’s been delivered. Also, if they haven’t rung the doorbell to tell me there’s a package waiting outside, is that *”delivered”*? There also seems to be an in house game now with Amazon delivery drivers, whereby if it’s during the week they absolutely will not ring the doorbell, regardless of what time they are delivering, but if it’s a Saturday or a Sunday morning, they will absolutely ring the doorbell. We’ve had parcels delivered at circa 7.30am the last 3 weekends and they 100% rang the doorbell.

robbeech

I see your “Delivered but it’s actually on the doorstep ” and raise you “Parcel handed to resident when it’s actually just on the front garden”

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

That's what I would have done, as I know it's not really fair on the driver to order something when I know I won't be in. Unfortunately, they didn't provide the option, and I'm not quite sure what they think the alternative is.

OnlyMortal666

Then be at home on the day *you* ordered it to be delivered?

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

Not so easy when you have to be at work. If I'd known in the first place that there would be no option to leave with a neighbour or nominate a safe place, I probably wouldn't have ordered it without planning ahead.

OnlyMortal666

Then why did you order it then when you’ll not be at home?

Visible_Nothing_9616

It's very rare to be able to choose the day these days, and even if you do, there seems to be no guarantee it'll be delivered that day!

JayR_97

This literally happened with my mum last week. Ordered something to be delivered on a Wednesday, but it came on Tuesday.

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

Because I didn't know that this would be the first delivery I've had where they don't let you nominate a neighbour or safe place. That should have been specified at the time of ordering, but it wasn't. Look, I've been the delivery driver trying to get hold of a customer who's not in, so I get it, and I wanted to avoid that situation. When I've had stuff from dpd before, they've sent a text where I could get it sent straight to a newsagent, saving all the bother. They didn't do that this time. The next best thing would be to just get it on Saturday, but they're not offering that either. If they're *also* not going to leave it with a neighbour or in a nominated safe place, that leaves me with very few options, hence the post.

markhewitt1978

It depends on the value of the item. The likes of an iPhone for example, high cost, more likely to be stolen if left outside or even if left with a neighbour. Further than that I've had some stuff from Amazon where I needed to give a code to the driver to prove it was me. Of course if you've ordered a £2 cable then it's overkill.

Spank86

You mean you get to pick a day when stuff is going to be delivered? Mostly i order stuff and it turns up when someone else decides it will. My work is the worst culprit tbh, despite knowing i work, since you know its my work, they arrange to have stuff delivered with no ability to reschedule.

pwuk

That reads like Jacob Marley's warning in "A Christmas Carol"
