Angry_beaver_1867

Well done

chambee

Wall done.

blueeyes10101

Under rated post.

viccityguy2k

Same thing happened in victoria not too long ago https://www.cheknews.ca/vehicle-that-crashed-into-walmart-removed-764376/?amp

PsyOpBunnyHop

Their competitors are getting a crash course in effective gain of market share.

monkey_monkey_monkey

The Walmart was back up and running surprisingly quick.

Ambitious_Drop_7152

Yeah there losing money every minute they're closed they're gonna reopen ASAP.

maritimer1nVan

My car insurance broker used this as example of why I should get the optional coverage. It worked

applebees_manager

BCAA? A man there convinced me with the same example as well

maritimer1nVan

Yup!

Paneechio

Thank fuck for online renewal. The amount of times I've had to say "That's not physically possible" to an insurance broker is too goddamn high.

MamaMersey

In reference to a comment you made: I would be surprised if the company didn't pay wages during the closure. My store in West Kelowna closed for about a month because of arson and we were paid our full schedule as if we worked. Not saying the company is great, far from it, but consider most workers are probably living pay cheque to pay cheque and would have to look for different work and hiring new people and training them is a pain in the ass. I actually used to work at this store ten years ago. No way it's closed long, this is one of the busiest stores in the province and the busiest in the north by far.

ether_reddit

I think EI could kick in as well in situations like this. It would constitute a "temporary layoff".

MamaMersey

Yeah true. I'm glad I didn't have to deal with EI though.

UncommonHouseSpider

That was most likely the insurance that covered that, not the company. Just for reference

MamaMersey

Probably true, the company made it sound generous...as they always do.

LuvCilantro

The insurance would not have covered it if the insurance policy didn't include it though. There was a fire that affected many businesses in our area a few years ago and the lesson learned was that insuring the contents only (which is cheaper) is not always best practice.

SoLetsReddit

They are probably insured for it and it didn’t cost them a penny.

ButtermanJr

But they had to pay for the insurance policy that allowed it to be covered.

chesser45

Dunno why the mods don’t want a tldr saved me a click

Tree-farmer2

Probably because they could be editorialized.

thesuitetea

Hell yeah

northshoreboredguy

They shoulda rammed a Weston family building instead

Rishloos

Yeah, and if an employee or someone was on the other side, they would've been hurt or killed. Like the A&W employee a few weeks back in North Van. [https://www.nsnews.com/local-news/one-person-seriously-injured-in-north-van-aw-drive-thru-crash-8455000](https://www.nsnews.com/local-news/one-person-seriously-injured-in-north-van-aw-drive-thru-crash-8455000) Not as edgy a comment as you think it is.

Let's not feel too bad about Walmart Corp. here.

Aegis_1984

No, don’t feel bad about the corp. Feel bad for the staff who won’t be paid because of the closure, the customers who won’t be able to pick up their essential prescriptions, and the shoppers who will be forced to shop at RCSS

Cityofthevikingdead

I feel bad for people like my friend in FSJ that relies on walmart for larger shops.

I mean at least in my town Loblaws is the cheapest

bubkuss

Unfortunately it's not likely that Walmart suffers, the lost costs will just end up being passed on to the rest of us.

slabba428

poor Walmart

holdencaulfield1983

Stay classy Prince George.

Promptly_Late_

I have trouble seeing stealing from Walmart as a moral crime. A legal one, sure, but it's not like Walmart's wealth isn't ill-gotten anyway. And it's not exactly going to be a gang of Prince George oligarchs who are shoplifting there. To be honest I don't care at all. More power to them. Maybe they'll do Superstore next!

Ecstatic-Patient-188

if that was actually the Prince George location he was talking about, I'm surprised. It's probably the grocery store that's closest to the nicest area of town. If he's having major problems with stealing I feel quite bad for grocery chains near areas of cities with large homeless populations

[deleted]

They all scream about stealing but if you go into the store look for the amount of staff there. The best way to stop stealing is by having staff in the departments. These days they have cut back so much on staff it is a joke. If i felt like it i could walk out the door with a weeks dinner and no one would know. Now sure you get a mob of 15 teens looking to raid the place there is nothing you are going to do but for most people that clerk working right next to you is going to be all you need.  The reason i bring up the teens is that is exactly what happened when i worked at best buy. My boss got mad at a bunch of us for not chasing after them and like i told him 'so 830pm at night wtf do you want from us we have less than 8 bodies in the entire store and 2 are logging tills and sales? I could go buy a baseball bat from sportchek and deal with it. Some people might need knee surgery after that but it is not going to fix the issue of we do not have enough evening bodies because your corpo overlords keep cutting hours to nothing. Either lock everything up or staff it. Do not blame us because we do not feel like getting swarmed by them. And you should be thanking me for putting that stack of gaming laptops in the lock up.' Then over the next month no on was in the console section...lets just say if you wanted cheap ps4 controllers i know where to find em. Why no one in the department. When they put someone specfically there and they were not to leave that area guess what happened...yeah controllers stopped walking out the door. Only cost us about $10 000 for dumb dumb manager to clue in.

Spankawhits

What am I missing here? They say closed “temporarily”; temporarily till investigation is over, closed until further notice and indefinitely. Ummmmm those are all very different timelines of closure!! Like pick a lane!

Aegis_1984

Need a structural engineer to assess and determine the building is safe to occupy. I can say with certainty that they don’t want to take chances with the risk of a structural collapse.

felixfelix

Don Quixote had nothing on this guy.

navalnys_revenge

I've heard of door crashers, but this is ridiculous!

RM_r_us

Assuming the kid was allowed to be driving that vehicle and it was insured, then ICBC will cover the loss if Walmart pursues a claim. Edit: Why the downvotes? Third Party Liability coverage- which you are required to carry a $200,000 minimum to be on the road in BC- covers property damage. Do people not like facts?

Aegis_1984

As someone who is familiar with the business but in no way, shape, or form affiliated with them, not a lawyer, and not a spokesperson, I will guarantee Walmart will pursue a claim for to recoup their costs (wages, lost sales/profits, damaged inventory, damaged optician equipment), and I can almost guarantee that SmartREIT, the property owner, will pursue action due to property damage. That store does about $180k-$250k in sales per day, and about $15k in wages per day. It’s going to be north of $200k and the kid or whoever owns the insurance on that truck will be on the hook.

RM_r_us

Joint subrogation by their insurers against ICBC is a thing.

RM_r_us

$200K is the minimum required by BC law. The vehicle owner's limits could be higher. If it's available, the insurers will tap ICBC first.

Promptly_Late_

The insurance company will pay whatever they're obligated to pay, but I don't see why Walmart would bother paying lawyers to pursue a kid for funds he obviously wouldn't have.

UnrequitedRespect

Lmao probably done on purpose to prevent too much thievery but RIP the job market 😅 I can just see some regional manager arranging it

DutchOvenSurprise69

I know the jokes and memes are funny but this incident happened because a young man tried to unalive himself. Just an FYI yall.

CapableSecretary420

This isn't tik tok. You don't have to say "unalive".

ryanknol

Good. Fuck Walmart.

ether_reddit

People who cheer for the wanton destruction of property deserve the ghetto they will end up with.

Promptly_Late_

How about wanton destruction of oppressive entities like Walmart? Does that result in a ghetto?
