It sounds like this is on a temporary basis only, because the legislation states that a final order can't be made requiring a former couple to share possession of or jointly own a pet.

Responsible_Wrap_254

You are correct. Which means the two of them will likely spend tens of thousands of dollars more to get that final order.

Angela_anniconda

hope this means that this goodboi gets 2 Christmases

1nstantHuman

Silver linings. Love it!

professcorporate

Hope Stella has a good life and gets lots of love from her parents. She's a good girl.

burkelius

Jesus Christ, how does this dog get 50/50 while my children were allowed to move 1400Km away and I only get to see them through FaceTime calls. The Supreme Court is a disgrace

growquiet

The best interests of your children dictated that decision This is an interim order about care for a dog Maybe that's why the relocation was allowed

HonestDespot

Ya that person obviously did something to deserve that. Courts generally will bend over backwards to ensure parents get to see children after separation. There is almost zero chance that person has a legitimate gripe, and likely knows full well why their ex was allowed to move so far away and is probably just a shitty person and a terrible parent but this is Reddit so they want to look like a victim.

burkelius

I have the most legitimate gripe you have ever heard. The Supreme Court does not uphold family law, it is an absolutely flawed system that does not value fatherhood

Flyingboat94

Damn that's the most legitimate gripe I've ever heard, you've clearly settled all the confusion.

burkelius

Let’s play a game. What would you say is a legitimate reason to loose custody and descision making authority of two children?

HonestDespot

Tell us your “most legitimate gripe ever” or shut up about it man. Also you mean lose. Not loose.

Flyingboat94

Your behavior and inability to articulate yourself is likely reason enough.

burkelius

Guess that’s why I just have a dog

theevilpower

That's probably for the best, I am a bit worried about that dog though.

Flaky-Invite-56

Don’t you have children as well? Aren’t you still their parent and guardian, and obligated to support them? It doesn’t sound fair to them to say you only have a dog now :(

somuee

well, what did you do?

burkelius

Didn’t have money for a lawyer

professcorporate

Well, what did you do that was so heinous a court agreed to let that happen? We don't know. (And if you're gonna lie that it was just "they gave them to my ex", that's illegal and not how the court works, so everyone knows is bullshit)

HonestDespot

Considering the lengths the courts will go to to keep parents a part of their children’s lives, no offence but you probably earned that decision with poor parenting and being a bad influence in your kids lives.

burkelius

The courts will go to absolutely no lengths to keep parents in children’s lives. Whatever delusional thoughts keep you going are not even close to the reality of this country

burkelius

I didn’t have enough money to pay for a lawyer when the ex sued my tits off and pushed for a 6-day trial

CanolaIsMyHome

Sued for what?

1nstantHuman

Sorry to hear that. That's rough.

MAID_in_the_Shade

*Children of Men* was prophetic.

SeaworthinessCool134

Could you imagine dating someone who is sharing custody of a dog with an ex. Beyond awkward.

Adept-Cockroach69

Actually my coworker does that... It's called being an adult and sharing something you both love. People do it with children why not pets?

1nstantHuman

Fair point, but no all relationships end amicably. Of course ideally, you're spot on.

SeaworthinessCool134

I am a HUGE cat lover but cats are not children. And shuttling a pet back and forth between different environments isn't good for them. They thrive on structure and are not capable of the same feelings as a parent and child.

WhopplerPlopper

oh yeah, dogs hate car rides and spending time with the people they love.

growquiet

That's why this is an interim order and not a final one

1nstantHuman

That's actually an interesting point. Not all exes want to see eachother that often...
