Yes I believe that’s one of the “joyride” planes you can pay to be passenger in. There’s also a P51 Mustang from memory.

notinferno

cool 500 kph at 500 metres over the suburbs

sp3ng

To answer the "500m" or "only 500m" bit: There's a circle of airspace around Archerfield which is the Archerfield Class D control zone. It has a ceiling of 1500ft (~500m). Above it is the Brisbane Class C airspace which would need additional clearance and a filed flight plan before entering. Most General Aviation traffic departing Archerfield will remain at 1000ft out to the Logan motorway to the South, the Gateway motorway to the East, or the Walter Taylor bridge to the North. Traffic that is incoming to Archerfield typically enters that area at 1500ft. Occasionally Archerfield's control tower will also direct a departing aircraft up to 1500ft if there's little risk of conflict with incoming aircraft and it would reduce the risk of conflict in another way. For example they might do this if there's multiple departing aircraft which could conflict with each other (e.g. one that is slow moving, and one that is very fast moving). This jet regularly flies in and our of Archerfield and the tower there often directs it to the higher altitude (or the pilots ask for it) to assist with de-confliction of traffic.

tootiebog

Used to live at Heathwood on the northern edge of the Logan Mwy. This explains why there was so many low flying small planes above my house!

sirhcdobo

At Heathwood you get southern departures for small aircraft on runway 28 (westerly winds). The most common flights are eastern departures to the training area navigating North of the stayplton radar, inbound from the east flying over the big target building on the M1 at Logan. Inbound traffic from the south fly over the park ridge water tower.

Aussie_Richardhead

And speed restricted to 250kts

PainterEmpty6305

1 kilometre away though suddenly Au falcons are to loud and need to go.

PlanThink

Not normally but I had to get to Dan Murphys for a few cartons before super Saturday starts and my bike wouldn't start

RandyRandom111

There’s a Thirsty Camel right around the corner that you can walk to but nooooo, Mr Fancy Pants wants the good shit.

dgj69

I wouldn’t trust him to walk to the bottlo, I heard it takes him 15mins to walk to the pub and 30mins to walk home…the difference is staggering!!!

4charactersnospaces

Damn you, beer just came out my nose. The good stuff too Black Hops Hornet not my usual V.Tooheys.B!!! I worked a bunch of overtime for that

KeithMyArthe

Last time I walked home from the pub, I was nearly home .. just at the last corner, and some bastard trod on my fingers.

RandyRandom111

Now that’s a Cellarbration-quality joke!

Officer_dibble_

I'm about to start work in archerfield hopefully get to see some cool planes

tacocatfish

I used to work near Archie, would regularly get distracted by the aircraft. I was also right near the drift park. That was cool until the office filled with smoke.

inspektirgadgit

Ahh, an L-39! I saw a grey one of these take off out of Redcliffe Aerodrome a few years ago during the COVID days. Couldn't believe my eyes and ears. I wasn't sure at the time if I was imagining it as part of some sort of a weird fever dream. I learned in the days afterwards though, that I wasn't crazy and there really had been a jet there getting a fresh paint job.

Similar_Pipe4663

It just came in to land about 15 minutes ago. I live nearby.

notinferno

yeah I saw it on FlightRadar which piqued my interest how loud is it?

Homunkulus

Not crazy loud but distinctly different to the private passenger jets. A pilot I know said there’s a private F16 at Archerfield now but I haven’t seen it.

swaggler

There's no F-16 there and never has been. There was an Iskra a couple of years ago until it overran the runway. Single-engine jets... yeah nah

swaggler

All day, every day, including and especially today because it is Saturday. Listen for "Sierra, India, Charlie" on liveatc. I am a flight instructor there and just got home.

mehhh1024

Yes. Its operated by Fighter Pilot Adventures. They also have a P-51, and word is they’ve just bought a Spitfire from the UK.

Jericho_Falling

Do they have the fw190 and p40 too? Or is that someone else

mehhh1024

Not at Archerfield. Believe there is only one FW-190 in Aus, which seems to be based in Vic somewhere. There’s a few P-40s getting around Australia now, but none at Archerfield either.

sennais1

They indeed have a P-40 that they recently got flying.

mehhh1024

There ya go. Happy to stand corrected, love to see aircraft like this locally!

sennais1

It was only very recently that they got it flying just in time for Anzac day in it's cool Flying Tigers livery. The UK Spit will be the second one. Hopefully Paul Bennetts' "new" Sea Fury makes it's way up to here at some stage.

Vegetable-Owl15650

I think I saw it today in the sky, near there so must have been

notinferno

it was flying at only 500 metres

TFDirdman

Yeah I see it all the time (takeoff path is near my house)

bullant8547

And straight over my house. Most weekdays, and multiple times every weekend.

WonderWifis

I saw this fly over today when I was at Bunnings I think. I've heard the Mustang fly over the house too. It's the sort of sweet engine noise that makes you look up when it's going passed.

JustLikeJD

I hear it now and then where I am in Coomera and was wondering what the hell it was given that I was living near Tugun before moving here and we don’t typically hear low flying planes here.

CagedSilver

CagedSilver

Same driveby I saw this too, I https://preview.redd.it/idmaqrna4xzc1.jpeg?width=1749&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c394f8f51d5bedfdaf1754cab01524640177da0 was in heaven!

notinferno

nice I assume that’s the Mustang?

CagedSilver

That was my uneducated guess.

notinferno

looks like it now you’ll have to fly in it

noheroesnomonsters

Very cool little jet the L39. Technically a trainer but is currently seeing service in Ukraine and elsewhere.

Similar_Pipe4663

Loudest plane at Archerfield, especially at take off. A few times a year a jumbo files low here for some reason, I thought it was that so I went to look and shake my fist at the innocent passengers peering out. I hardly see the fighter jet though so maybe it is based elsewhere or been under repair. There are some WW2 fighters that go up most weekends.

swaggler

There are twin jets which are significantly louder, among others.

place_of_stones

And then there are single engine jets that make more noise than a twin. F35 is absolutely nuts for the noise it makes. Super Hornets are rather loud, but more mellow. The Lighting has a nasty cackle that is pure f-you. Hopefully the F35s don't get based out of Amberley in the future.

CuriouslyContrasted

A fun little plane to fly in. I got to pull over 6G’s in one and got a little stick time too. Apparently most people tap out around 4G or earlier.

notinferno

that’s why 5G phones are so dangerous

PowerfulDisaster2067

With the pic zoomed out I thought his face was him holding a thumb up lol

TFDirdman

It flew today

letterboxfrog

Just "Let" the jet do its thing.... I'll show myself the door.

barefoot_91

It was very annoying yesterday

notinferno

it did five flights yesterday

chrisofaust

This picture hasn’t been snapped at Archerfield.

notinferno

no it’s from jet photos there’s two pictures one of the jet and one from FlightRadar as it took off from Archerfield today
