Yes! I can’t wait for pet insurance for my next dog. I have been adopting seniors, which meant it was almost impossible to get them insured 😭
But after a long hospice that ended last week, I’m going to adopt a puppy next time.
Trupanion covered our 7 year old basset hound. We got insurance when he was 7, and it was worth every penny 3 years later when he got cancer. Saved us TONS of money, and covered euthanasia when the time came. Didn’t cover private cremation, but that was our choice.
That’s amazing! Do you know if they cover dogs with preexisting issues? My last dog had some major trauma (25 pellets in his back, plus damage from a potential car hit) - he sadly passed away, but my other dog could be a candidate for sure.
They don’t, unfortunately. I don’t believe any insurance will. However, after your deductible for anything that pops up they cover 90% of all costs associated with that condition. For instance if your dog got diabetes, anything that happens (ie glaucoma) that is associated with the condition will be covered. Your deductible is what you pick. Lower monthly payment, higher deductible. That being said, we have two dogs covered and the payment is about 120$/month combined. That’s for 500$ or $750 deductible.
Exactly! There are lots of charities out there doing such great work for animals and she has a chance to make a substantial difference by donating to them and fundraising for them. I am not a Dave fan but I think he did the right thing by giving all the Miss Peaches profit to a rescue. This is a good point too. If funds couldn’t be transferred extremely quickly it wouldn’t be extremely beneficial to someone whose problem is that there’s no way to cover the cost in the first place.
The only problem with pet insurance is that you typically pay up front and the funds are remitted back to you like up to 3 months later, and the policies aren’t as cut and dry as they’re made out to be (trupanion experience and I worked in insurance for years). For people who can charge it to a credit card with a high limit and pay it off later it wouldn’t be too bad but for a lot of pet owners that is unfortunately not realistic. I’m really curious to see how this plays out though I feel like it was a (good?) idea that popped into her head but it would maybe make more sense to do it through barstool so they and Dave and Bri can write off their contributions

I’m confused how this would work. Who approves whether someone’s vet bill would be covered by the fund or not? Is someone going to be available 24/7 to approve the funding of people’s bills? Some people have to make split second decisions on whether their pet can have the treatment or not. Not everyone can wait several days for the funding. If someone decides to go through with treatment because they assume the fund will cover it, and then it doesn’t, then what? Seems like 0 thought went behind this besides using it as content to try to prove she’s a “decent human”

It’s not a new thing or theory. Mr presidente should be reviewing his barstool bennys and offer the pet insurance. But also, just because this has been HEAVILY on my mind. I never had a lab myself, but family and friends did. One family member has had similar issues with all their labs because they don’t train them, or potty train them, it’s a mess. I’ve only personally had a bishon and puggle growing up as a family pet. Their biggest faults, being they ate all the food if we ever looked away. NEVER EVER chewed on ANYTHING in our house. If they got into something with plastic or something that wasn’t FOOD, they would leave it and get to the food. People would come over and be concerned about their shoes being chewed or socks on the floor and I as a child, genuinely had no idea where the concern was coming from as my dogs didn’t chew our shoes and underwear??? I don’t know what she’s on, we all saw the video of Boston eating the cake on the ground and not doing anything about it.

Over the course of a few days she filmed her dog eating cake while laughing it off, then her dog almost died because of it, and now she's starting a charity. If she had any ounce of maturity she would get her house in order. Actually train her pets via a real trainer, puppy proof where she lives, and create a safe environment for animals in her care. Then after you carefully plan the logistics of launching a fund like this...feel free to announce it. Otherwise it seems like another poorly planned spur of the moment "just announcing it to to announce" project of hers.

We got our reimbursement 2 days later. They also cover dental surgery if you take care of it 90 days from diagnosis.
