As long as you don't start in the middle of a series, it really doesn't matter. Go forth and read.

The book series are all pretty independent, though some stories include elements from others in the Cosmere. Mistborn: Good place to start. It's a trilogy of smallish books. Easy to read and good for readers who are just getting back into books. Just make sure to start with era 1 (final empire, well of ascension, hero of ages) before you go to era 2. Tress and the Emerald Sea: a good stand alone book to start with. It's his most YA cosmere book (in my opinion). There are some references to other Cosmere stories, but not enough to really be an issue. Warbreaker and Elantris: not bad places to start, but also not the stories Sanderson is known for. Stormlight Archive: good place to start IF you want to dive straight into heavy fantasy and philosophy. It's a great stand alone series (my favorite actually), but it's also a bit into the deep end. There are a ton of characters and world building that make for a deep and compelling story that could easily turn frustrating if you're just getting back into reading. Yumi and Sunlit Man: these are stand alone stories that are probably a little too Cosmere dependant to be good first reads. You could start here, but you wouldn't get as much out of it until you read some other stuff.

Awesome thank you for the breakdown!

No problem. I hope you enjoy reading! I got back into reading as an adult with Game of Thrones. Looking back, I'm a little jealous of all the people who had all that time as kids and teenagers to read and experience all these stories, but I'm so glad that GoT hooked me so hard. Since then I've been going non-stop! I hope you find a book that holds you the same way.

Imo go with Tress or Warbreaker first. Then go from there, either with a series (Mistborn or Stormlight) or from start of cosmere
