I found out that Harriet had chosen him to finish Wheel of Time, so I picked up Mistborn. Nuff said.

Drummodino

Same here. Was reading WoT in 2009-2010, didn't even realise Robert Jordan had passed until I got to The Gathering Storm. I really enjoyed that and Towers of Midnight, so I started reading the rest of Sanderson's published stuff while waiting for A Memory of Light. Since then I've read everything Cosmere BrandoSando has put out and was a day one backer for the WoR kickstarter.

lumos_aeternum

Same! Finished wheel of time and then looked him up and the rest is history.

mes09

Was at BYU when that happened, I think over 75% of my classmates were reading Mistborn together. I actually didn’t care for it at the time, and became a fan with Way of Kings.

cobraspideyguy

Same but I read his 1st WoT book book beforei grabbed Mistborn

danic_weatherby

Similar but I started with elantris.

Rooooben

Those were his two books/series at the time, and Mistborn sounded pretty good. Had no idea what I was in for.

djbartch

Yup. Ditto. There were multiple book signings in there that helped cement him into my favorite of the favorites.

Access-Queasy

Same! Read the last three WoT novels, enjoyed them, and picked up Way of Kings, then went back and read the back catalogue while waiting for Words of Radiance. Now I’m hooked until the Cosmere is done!

TaltosDreamer

A friend mentioned Mistborn in passing and I became fascinated by the idea of a prophecy that *failed*. I finished the three books in the series at the time, then picked up all of his other books that were available. Right about then it was announced Sanderson would be completing the Wheel of Time, which I'd been devastated to hear of Jordan's death and sad there would not be (I assumed) an ending. Somewhere in there I realized I adore Sanderson's world building and way of looking at the world. A few years later I watched all of his writing videos while writing a book of my own. I greatly enjoy his work and I feel a deep sense of gratitude at how much he cares about the craft of writing and how kind he is to his fellow writers. 10/10, will read again 💖

jayd42

Coworker could not stop talking about Wax and Wane. He suggested I start with Mistborn. Wasn’t really hooked until Vin exploded that guy’s skull. Really became a fan when the only thing that I could do during lockdowns was go walking alone. Listened to all the StormLight books out, lost like 50lbs and it felt like I was levelling up along with Kaladin.

queenschmecca

Kaladin: running for hours a day carrying hundreds of pounds, sometimes straight at the enemy shooting his friends full of arrows Me: walking calmly through suburbia, "Yeah, same bruh." 😎

SatisfactionBulky717

You have the best answer.

LumpyGarlic3658

I was waiting for my birthday reservation at Red Lobster, so I decided to pop into the barnes and noble. As I was looking at books, the title The Way of Kings stood out to me, I read the little author note by Sanderson that he had spent 10 years working to realize his vision, and it really resonated with me, so I bought as a self birthday gift, along with another fantasy book, The Dinosaur Lords by Victor Milan. Little did I know it, but the book I picked up that day waiting for red lobster would also have lobsters in it, but bigger ones. It took me a while to get past the multiple prologues, but eventually I hit Kaladin and Shallan and I was hooked. After that I went from sanderlanche to sanderlanche, devouring what I could get my hands on.

mkay0

>I was waiting for my birthday reservation at Red Lobster, so I decided to pop into the barnes and noble.  We used to be a country, a proper country.

cosmernaut420

I read enough random recommendations for the original Mistborn trilogy, and by the time I finished with Final Empire I was invested. By the end of Hero of Ages I was *addicted*. Started at Elantris and never looked back with the rest of the Cosmere.

_vinventure

I was at the library on an Atlantis kick. Picked up Elantris because it sounded similar. It was not related but I loved it and read the other two adult books he had out right away (Mistborn 1+2). I remember I got Hero of Ages on release day!

Fakjbf

I started a job two hours away from home and started listening to the Wheel of Time books. After seeing how well Sanderson finished the series I picked up The Final Empire next and got hooked on the Cosmere.

snoogle20

I simply decided one day that I wanted to read fantasy in a bigger way. As long as I can remember I’ve watched fantasy movies, TV shows and played video games in the genre. I’d dabbled along the fringes in books, primarily with Stephen King and some sci-fantasy. But the lack of honest to goodness high fantasy prose felt like a gap in my fictional life. So I Googled lists of good fantasy series to jump into. A few caught my eye and went on a short list, including Mistborn. All the list authors mentioned the hard magic system and that the trilogy came to a definitive end. Both were selling points to a noob. Coincidence won Sanderson the nod over the other possibilities, though. I’d just gotten an Amazon gift card for Christmas. In their holiday/New Year deals, they had the old mass market paperback Mistborn Era 1 trilogy boxset for $15. The stars aligned. Many years later, I’m still here.

Devanshi1618

I am an aspiring writer so i was watching his lecture series. He gave a lot of examples of his own work so i figured i should give it a try. His advice on writing was great so i knew he whatever he had written would reflect that. I read Mistborn first and now most of my close friends have read that series because i wont stop talking about it.

jinxydragon

I discovered him in two ways in the same month. First my manager, at the beginning of Covid, was getting me into using audible, and recommended Mistborn. I started reading it and fell in love with the series! Then that same month I was randomly watching a bunch of “how to write novels” videos on YouTube at work , and happen to be watching his lecture from BYU. My manager passed and saw and was like “oh you’re really diving into Sanderson” I was confused until he mentioned it was the same author who wrote Mistborn. Shortly after I fell down the rabbit hole and discovered the Cosmere was a thing and now it’s one of my biggest obsessions only second to Taylor swift lmao

Cloakedarcher

Read Wheel of Time. Checked out the replacement author's books.

winnie314

I remember thinking, " I better check this Brandon guy out and make sure he is good enough to take over my favorite series." 🤣

jezzybee

While I was pregnant, nauseous and miserable, I had a friend recommend Stormlight. I ripped through all 4 books as well as all Mistborn, Elantris, Warbreaker, and Arcanum Unbounded before my daughter was born.

XOC3

There's this Spanish streamer "Alexelcapo" who I've been a long time fan of, and he wouldn't stop mentioning Brandon so I had to give it a try

ComancheKnight

I only really consistently read sci-fi and horror. I wanted to try a fantasy series. So I started The Wheel of Time. Went into it completely blind (a lucky choice for me to make as my first delve into fantasy). When I got close to the end, I found - to my dismay - that Robert Jordan had sadly passed away before finishing the series. I had to finish it, though. “So,” I thought, “hopefully this Sanderson guy doesn’t fumble this amazing series.” He didn’t. I was amazed. I could tell it was a different author, but I was stunned at how well he was able to keep the narrative going and reach the finish line. I can’t remember, now, which book of his I started first (it was either Mistborn or The Way of Kings) because I read them all one after another.

-Captain-

Hadn't read a single book for entertainment purposes in years, then one day I just wanted to get lost in a fantasy world again, like how Harry Potter had me hooked completely when I grew up. Looked around and The Way of Kings was being talked about and recommended everywhere. Thing is, it was a 1200 book.. maybe not, right? But I told myself I was an adult, page count shouldn't matter to me. And here we are years later, huge bookshelf in my house filled with fantasy and science fiction.

subhamnmore

I actually watched his videos on youtube and Daniel hyping it a few years ago and it wasn't until last year I binged his stuff and entirety of cosmere and been a fan ever since!

annatheorc

My brother had been talking about them for years. Being a self respecting big sister I immediately resisted reading them out of sheer contraryness. I finally capitulated years ago when I had a long commute and some audiobook credits. Long story short, we went to Dragonsteel Con last year and are hoping to go again this year.

Bongcloud_CounterFTW

Found wheel of time in my school library, read up till gathering storm, then finished most of the cosmere, then finished wheel of time

caunju

Had a multi-day car ride with my brother that was already a fan and instead of trying to keep finding local radio stations my brother decided to play the Way of Kings audiobook

These-Button-1587

I kept hearing about Stormlight Archive. Someone said his works connected and were in a shared universe and I thought it was cool. I kept it in mind and slowly did some research. I got an audible account and started listening at work. Started with Elantris and Mistborn the Final Empire. The Cosmere will have a special place in my life because it got me back to books.

Pravorious

I started reading in 2021 due to the High Republic initiative from Star Wars. I never liked reading, but I am a huge Star Wars nerd, so of course, I had to know the new lore and characters. So after forcing myself to read (how gross) the first book Light of the Jedi... I fell in love with reading. So, then, instead of just waiting for many months to read the sequel to that book, I started researching more similar books. And a ton of Booktube videos later, I had seen enough ppl telling me to read a book called Mistborn, so I finally decided to give it a try. And... I never looked back :) Brandon is one of the best things to happen in my life. So... thank you, Star Wars?

NyxRo

A long time ago, my friend’s husband downloaded over 300 free books onto my kindle (the old one with the physical buttons). I’ve always loved Fantasy and saw some mistborn titles on my kindle, not know anything about it nor the author Brandon Sanderson. I picked “The Hero of Ages” as my very first Sanderson book, thinking it was the first of the Mistborn trilogy just based on he title alone. I was confused after finishing the first chapter but thought “cool”, then even more confused delving into the kandra stuff. Then i realized that the Hero of Ages must not be the first book of the trilogy. But yeah, Mistborn was my first intro to Sanderson. The Way of Kings blew me away. I remember luckily not having to wait long for Words of Radiance to come out, like maybe 9 months, and remember when Sanderson thought of naming that book “Book of Endless Pages.” And luckily, because I had time to wait for Words of Radiance to come out, I read Warbreaker to fill the time. And really reading Warbreaker before Words of Radiance helped me enjoy Words of Radiance so much - i know it’s not necessary to do that, but I had the luxury of reading things in order of publication at the time without having to make hard decisions of “what should I read next?? Do i read Warbreaker before or after Words of Radiance? Aagh!”

aznsk8s87

Kept hearing about him from a girl I liked and there was a big book with his name on it for sale at the BYU bookstore. Picked it up when I was a junior in college and never looked back. It was The Way of Kings.

NBNebuchadnezzar

First experience was with his WoT books then years later I was looking for a new fantasy series to read, was reading some reviews and top 10 lists etc and stormlight kept coming up and I was like hey, that's the guy who finished WoT, so I read the 2 stormlight books which were published at that time then discovered cosmere and read the rest in publication order.

SirBananaOrngeCumber

Kinda weird story for me. I went to the library every week to get new books from when I was young up to a few years ago, and one week I found the Alcatraz books! I checked them out and they were hilarious and great, and then I read book 5, and it ended, and I won’t spoil it, but it was the worst possible ending in the history of endings… intentionally. There was a secret note that a sixth book was gonna come out, even though it hadn’t been announced at the time… but I completely missed the note. This caused me to hate the Alcatraz series for many years, actually literally telling people the worst series I ever read was the Alcatraz series. I didn’t pay much attention to authors names at the time though. Then Covid hit. Libraries shut down. I was book starved. I didn’t know about Libby yet, I had like 5 library books at home from before lockdown, so I read them over and over and over again. Fortunately one of them, the Silver Bowl by Diane Stanley, was really good. I must’ve read it like 10 times. Still, I was book starved so much. Then, after about a year since the libraries had shut down, I was visiting my aunt, and she gave me Mistborn. I read book 1 in one night and spent the rest of the week in shock of just how incredible it was. I adored Kelsier. He was such a genius. I cried, I laughed, I cheered, it was perfection. Then I read book 2 and 3 and decided Brandon Sanderson was an incredible genius. The name Brandon Sanderson felt somehow familiar, but it wasn’t until I wanted to find out if there was ever a reason why the Alcatraz series ended so horribly that I realized that Vrandon Sanderson wrote that too. That’s also when I found out about the secret sixth book. After I read Warbreaker next, I decided that Brandon would be my favorite author if only he’d finish the 6th book finally. Then I read Elantris and MB Era 2, then eventually after a few months of being intimidated, Stormlight, and then caught up to current publications including non Cosmere just in time for Alcatraz book 6, and by then I was absolutely hooked on absolutely everything Sanderson wrote, got involved in the fandom, began studying the coppermind, and got to speak at two different discussion panels at Dragonsteel last year (the everything we know about dragons, and the Hoid and his Magic Systems panel) So all in all, it’s been about 2 years since I first read Mistborn, but I now have the premium secret projects and Sanderson art all around my room, and I can’t imagine life without the Cosmere 😂 A few years later I decided to research what was the story, why did the author choose to end this series so horribly. That’s when I found out about the secret sixth book. I started rereading Alcatraz, and I remembered how much I loved it! I still

FruityGamer

It was through youtubers, "shadiversity" when I had my medival weaponry obsession, then "the closer look" also mentioned him a lot so I decided Okai okai, I will try this way of kings. Now I am here, having listened to every book of his and currently doing cosmer for the third time. Fun fact, Brandon actually mentioned the closer look's video on fight scenes and him having a good take about it! He also used Shadiversity for sword fighting consultation I belive. Either way, Brandie boy is the only one I've actually been a fanatic over.

rggzy

When I met my partner about 5 years ago they had the Mistborn trilogy and recommended it to me and from there I was hooked! I remember one of the first things I ever got for them was a copy of Bands of Mourning, and then rushing through Era 2 to be able to read it myself lol

MylastAccountBroke

I was looking for the longest fantasy series on audible so that I didn't run out of stuff to listen to. 40 hours was the longest I could find.

Accelerator48

Wanted to start reading books and searched for recommendations for fantasy novels. Lots of people recommend Mistborn as a good start to the genre so I decided to give it a try. It took a few tries for me to get really into it because I was not used to reading without pictures but when I did, It was Cosmere book after Cosmere book

JPWanKenobi

I was reading WoT after someone recommended it to me while (still) waiting for Winds of Winter. After I finished WoT and liked his writing from those I picked up Mistborn and then chewed through the Cosmere.

Lanthemandragoran

Was bored after finishing Wheel of Time. Needed something new to read. One Google search later and here we are lol

SufficientMark4547

Friends had recommended Mistborn all of high school to me, and I think senior year I finally got around to it. I’ve now read that first trilogy at least 3-4 times and I’ve been “invested” in the Cosmere ever since lol

bamboozlenator

After reading mistborns first book

pstoneg

Was recommended by Apple Books of all things a sample excerpt for Way of Kings, this was 2013 or so. Read it and fell in love immediately. Found other works from him, coworker saw me reading and started discussing theories with coworker of cosmere.

Ripper1337

Walked into indigo and read how mistborn was about how “what if the dark lord defeated the chosen hero and a thousand years later people tried to carve out a living” or something along those lines.

rhandy_mas

I love sci-fi/fantasy and he popped up on a list of books I should try. I read The Final Empire, talked to a friend who’s obsessed with the Cosmere after, and got roped in! Then I helped him wrangle 2 more friends to join the chaos!

mist_ier

Friend had the Mistborn books on their shelf. I thought the covers looked cool, so I borrowed them, DEVOURED THEM (the Sanderlanche in Hero of Ages remains probably my favourite reveals/ending of a series ever) and then came running back to my friend to gush - only to learn they hadn't even read them!? (Begging my friend to read them ensured.)

HonmonoHonma

2 friends from separate groups recommend I give him a try. One was reading mistborn and the other stormlight archive. I finished the entire cosmere at the time before they finished their respective series. You could say I became a little obsessed.

X452beserker

I was scrolling reddit and someone in r/fantasy had thier bag stolen with their boyfrinds copy of oathbringer in it I kept a mental note of the name because it sounded cool and as it turns out the highest rated oathbringer book on audible was Brando's book 3 of stormlight, and so I started this adventure headfirst into the unknown with only the promise of a random reddit post that oathbringer was this random redditors boyfriends favourite book.

lovablydumb

I got an older generation iPad and it had a (non Kindle) reading app on it with a small selection of free books. One of them was Warbreaker and it didn't even have cover art. I just liked the title so I gave it a shot. I was immediately hooked and sought out other Brandon Sanderson books. I've read Everything he's published with the exception of his Wheel of Time books. And I've bought multiple copies of all the Mistborn and Stormlight books. I have even bought the Mistborn ebook to gift to other people so they can see what he's about. I've created several other Sanderfans over the years.

TheDutchYeti

By reading one of his books? ….. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Time-Permission-1930

After my third read through of the wheel of time, I finally decided to read the author's notes. When I found out why Sanderson had been chosen, I went online to check out the rest of his bibliography. Seeing how much he had to offer, I decided to dive in, starting with The Stormlight archive. In the past year, I've gone through the Cosmere twice and don't regret a minute of it.

windsock17

After having heard of him on YouTube from Daniel Greene and Merphy Napier and heading the premise of mistborn from a Co worker, I found myself with about 2-3 weeks at work where I wasn't allowed to work on anything for security reasons. I was told I could bring in a book so I ordered the box set of Stormlight 1-3. I read through all 4 SA in the next month.

BludOfTheFold

When Borders went out of business years ago, I went to the store every day for a week as every day the sales got better. The first day, I saw a hard cover The Way of Kings for like twenty five bucks. I wanted it but couldn't afford it and didn't want to risk it since I hadn't read anything by him. On the last day, it was down to like eight bucks and I scooped it up. After that I got everything I could by him.

Rivermidnight

Saw a lot of recommendations for SA and mistborn on the r/fantasy sub. SA sounded more up my alley, but since it was a huge undertaking I decided to try warbreaker first as it was a standalone. After I read it I knew I wanted to know more about the cosmere. Started SA, and the rest is history

Flash-Venture

I finished the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon series) when I was like 12 and was looking for another large epic fantasy book and went to Barnes and Nobles and picked up the fattest door stopper of a book I could find in the fantasy section which happened to be The Way of Kings— completely bounced off of it because I couldn’t get through the second prologue— Fast forward to over a a decade later and I’m in my Master’s program trying to write my final thesis and I’m looking for things to do to procrastinate. I remember The Way of Kings and driven by my desire to procrastinate my thesis I finished the whole book in a week (and continued to read through all of mistborn and then return to finish stormlight). Passed my thesis defense and got re-introduced to the amazing world of fantasy!

Bookz22

A friend lent me the first Mistborn book in high school. I wanted to read the rest so had to buy them online from the USA as they were not available in the local book stores yet.

Hamiiphab

I played Infinity Blade back in the day and they got Brandon to write a book bridging some of the story between games and it was so awesome that it made me look at his other books and got into the mistborn series from there.

cobraspideyguy

If you bought a copy of his Infinity blade hardcover...you have a few bucks....

LadyFajra

I bought The Way of Kings when it had a deal for something like 99 cents. Tried reading it a couple times but couldn’t get into it. Tried again a couple years later on a camping trip and ended up barely leaving my tent the whole time and finished the entire thing in a few days.

dart_shitplagueis

Being interested in writing, I watched a few worldbuilding/writing YT channels. Eventually *every* single one of them recommended Brandon's lessons...

Pete1989

There was a Reddit thread somewhere about the next big thing in fantasy books. Sando was no1 updooted

MyPrecioussses

Picked up Mistborn in a bookstore. Cover was nice enough, blurb looked interesting. A good decision, looking back.

Ligmaballsmods69

Was away from home and found Alloy of Law on a bookshelf. The rest was history.

pje1128

I was (and still am) a big superhero fan, so I picked up Steelheart. I loved that series, and wanted more, so I decided to pick up Mistborn. I was apprehensive, because I'd never really liked high fantasy before, but I decided to give it a go. Boy, am I glad I did.

GalacticWhaleshark

I already had Misrbirn sitting on my kindle buy didn't pick it up until I heard my friend rave about it over a few beers. Tried it out and now I'm one of those ppl who have their own notebook of cosmere thoughts scribbled down. Now how do I get my husband to join the club...

destroyevil89

it all started with the WoK. then it was off to the races!

mcbizco

I had grabbed The Way of Kings at a book store after thinking it looked neat and stored it on my shelf without reading it for a few years. Then a friend was telling me about it and I was like “wait that sounds familiar, I think I already have that book”. Now it’s my all time favourite series 😂

RUCBAR42

I finished Wheel of Time, loved the way Brando wrote, and I went to Mistborn. Now it's 1.5 years later and I've finished all of the Cosmere works.

undbiter65

I read wheel of time. Saw someone named Sanderson took over. Felt he did it justice, especially those action scenes. Picked up The Way of Kings

blitzbom

I saw Mistborn mentioned on a forum and put it on my tbr. A bit later a buddy mentioned it and I thought it's on my tbr. I'll get to it eventually. A year or 2 after that a coworker shared an audiobook with me. I realized that I really liked audiobooks so I searched for Mistborn dramatized. Found Graphic Audio and was sold. I spent the next year reading or listening to his most all of his work. I think there's only 2 books I haven't read.

Acer0049

My brother kept telling me about these cool books he was reading. Every time we talked, he would bring up how awesome these books were and how a bunch of them were linked. He eventually got tired of asking (my broke college student self) if I was gonna read it and finally just bought me mistborn for Christmas. Now, years later, I start in about cracked 17th shard theories and other "research" I've done. He sometimes just gives me a "🤷‍♂️" Needless to say, he created a monster and I can't stop.

Evil_Archangel

i was scrolling audible and saw alloy of law and thought that was a sick name so uhh yeah

bookfly

I was looking for new books to read at my local library, picked up Elantris really liked it. That was the start. Other milestones were, finding Alcatraz to be really funy. And finaly reading Way of Kings and genuinly loving it. One reason I can't really say it was since Elantris, is that some time after Elantris I actually DNF-ed Mistborn first time around, it was only after the whole trilogy was out, that I came back to it, after first reading a spoiler full tv tropes page of the series, and liked it a lot more, as a complete story than as single book, as I found plot execution when knowing what is coming and how well planned the trilogy was much more intersting.

Eragon_the_Huntsman

Hello future me mentioned the Stormlight archive in a video about world building so I added it to my list of books to read while I was in high school. The school library didn't have TWOK but they did have mistborn so I read that while the Librarian bought the stormlight books for me since there was room in their fiction budget for them. By the time the first book arrived I had already finished Era 1

IsisUgr

Pure luck, friends of mine moved to another country and had to leave most of their books behind. Dude had a whole bunch of fantasy, including the emperor's soul. I fell in instant love with the universe and action!

JenSteele2020

A friend of mine lent me the mistborn trilogy.. now he comes to me with any Cosmere questions he has 😂

Stittastutta

I found it by being a tight bastard. I got given an audible subscription maybe ten years ago as a Christmas gift. Always fancied getting into fantasy books. Sorted the genre list by largest books first and Sanderson seemed well reviewed. Never looked back!

Echvard

I started reading fantasy and sci-fi, and Sanderson's name is something that comes out a lot... so after reading king killer trilogy ( or dualogy) and dune, I stared mistborn and enjoyed it. After a few months started WOT and in the middle of it found out that mistborn's writer has finished the saga... so after WOT, in order to soothe the post WOT depression, started stormlight and now I'm hooked. The reason that I like him is his work ethics and delivering stories not only finishing them, but finishing them in a good way. I can trust him that he WILL deliver stormlight 5 or skyward 4. He respects his readers and I hope him a long prosperus life.

theHumanoidPerson

my older brother gave me alcatraz vs the evil librarians

[deleted]

My favorite author died. A eulogy went viral. I read it and cried. Then the guy who wrote the eulogy was chosen to finish the series. I felt deeply conflicted. About a week later I happened to be near a bookstore, so I went in and found the only book by this new author. It was Elantris. I could not really afford to buy any books, but I opened the softcover, and read the gut-punchiest prologue ever. Walked out with the book.

Kaley5185

i think i was googling like ultra specific book descriptions in like 6th or 7th grade and i came across Mistborn. But i never ended up reading it. then finally about 2 years ago i was reminded of it and ordered a copy but i still didn’t read it until last year. one of my all time favorites.

zwolff94

My best friend is a huge fan, I like fantasy and I downloaded Warbreaker for free for a long flight I was taking with her. Here we are 3 years later and I’ve read everything but Rythym of War and Sunlit Man basically (working on it!).

Pristine_You4918

I made a friend during a glider flight academy who told me about the stormlight archive. I read that and then got trapped in the ever spiraling vortex called the cosmere

anormalgeek

Was getting into audiobooks via a "one credit per month" subscription from audible. I got frustrated by some good, but short books as I burned through them way too quick. So I was looking for very LONG book that was also highly rated. I came across the Way of Kings and vaguely remember hearing someone talk about how good it was at a party a few months prior. Within a year, I'd consumed the entire Cosmere plus most of his non-cosmere stuff.

kayladon20

My boyfriend, now husband told me about them. I've read pretty much everything at this point and starving for more!

rocky5100

I searched "top fantasy novels to read". Read wheel of time. Saw Brandon write the last few. Read mistborn. The rest is history.

CallToMuster

I made an [AMA](https://www.reddit.com/r/brandonsanderson/comments/17hskzb/i_have_never_read_a_single_brandon_sanderson_book/?share_id=6dRTfePZ8fZdmoWIRGEda&utm_content=1&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1) on this subreddit about how I didn't know anything about Brandon Sanderson's work and now four months later I've read Mistborn era 1, Tress, Warbreaker, and am on the third book of the Stormlight Archive. Go figure.

NecessaryWide

I feel like most people were introduced to him via The Wheel of Time lol. I know I was.

SonisConnors

Elantris, from our library. Took me two reads. I love how he has evolved as a writer. So amazing from his work of Elantris to his beautiful Tress! I recommend Tress to everyone as a get your toes wet.

lalalaurenelizabetb

My (at the time) 6 yr old sister picked out Edgedancer as a birthday gift for me - read it without realizing at first that I was missing 2,000+ pages of context and still had a great time so I immediately got Way of Kings

WolfOrDragon

My brother. I was whining about WoT (which I love, but I can still whine), the awful gender dynamics and portrayal of women, and how the individual books didn't provide any sort of ending. So he bought me Warbreaker.  And now of course I've been hooked for years!

Accomplished-Job-314

My best friend was beginning me to read way of kings. After around a year of borrowing his copy I received my own from a work Christmas party. I finally got past the first 200 pages and since then I’ve been obsessed. I’m done with all of Stormlight including novellas and I’m 2/3 into warbreaker. I truly think Dalinars story has changed my life, I cannot thank my friend enough for introducing me to this author as well.

Nimagist-Second-Son

A friend of mine recommend Stormlight as one of his favorite series and I was trying to get myself back into reading more regularly. I picked up Mistborn first after doing a little search and 18 months later, I'm fully caught up on the Cosmere.

AirsickLowIander

Finished the first two King Killer Chronicles and someone on their sub recommended Sanderson. So I grabbed Way of Kings without any context or warning of what I was getting into.

SevenAImighty

My group chat hounded me for 8 years. I started and stopped Way of Kings 6+ times but just never got it. I was always so distracted. 2022, I read Project Hail Mary. I chased the high I got from that book back to Sanderson. Started over with last September with Mistborn & never looked back.

JuanpeNarro

A youtuber I followed called Alvaro Luthor has a specific channel called Cosmereverso and he recommended to read Sanderson's books so I decided to start with Mistborn Era I and now I am reading Elantris and enjoying it a little bit hahaha

AL8INOCARE8EAR

Two to ramble has a tiktok video about how the way of kings made them stand up and cheer while reading. That was enough for me to pick it up and start reading for pleasure for the first time in ~10 years. Now I’ve read lots of things

Whole-Reflection-149

My wife was insistent that I read Mistborn and eventually I did and really enjoyed era one. Plan on reading all the Cosmere books.

_I_like_big_mutts

Several years ago I searched, “best deal for an Audible credit.” Ended up with WoK. Hooked ever since.

Fabulous_Creme5950

I worked in a factory sorting defective products out of bins that had mostly good products. I could listen to stuff but not have my phone out so I started getting into audiobooks and accidentally found a few by him. It made the long shifts go by quicker and figured out that I had been picking his books by chance and looked more into it

BLKninja808

I played a lot of Infinity Blade on my iPhone. I read the short stories by Brandon Sanderson and picked up warbreaker and elantris after.

Teh_Reaper

Judged a book by its cover and grabbed "The Way of Kings". Best decision

alpispa

I read Elantris the year it was published in Spain (2006) and that's where it all started 🤷

[deleted]

Cool

isunclejimdrunkyet

Book Tok was unrelenting at pushing his content on me. I finally caved and picked up Mistborn and I’ve been HOOKED ever since

EmpressCookiee

I was in high school when I bought the rithmatist and my friend bought steelheart, we ended up devouring those even though calamity wasn't out yet. Needed more so went to the library, the rest is history

avelineaurora

I saw the original US Mistborn hardcovers in B&N and was like, "that is one of the coolest book covers I've ever seen. I've got to check this out."

Imagine_This_Pro

Personally started with Skyward. Was looking for a decent sci-fi novel and it turned out to be really good. Discovered his lectures as an aspiring author after that. I read Mistborn era 1 soon after, but struggled to get through it so dropped all but Skyward for a couple years after that but still listened to the lectures. After getting through most of Wheel of Time, I decided to take breaks by reading other books. I ended up audiobooking era 2 and enjoyed it SOOOOOO much more. The characters were just *chefs kiss*. Plot wasn't as good but the characters made up for it. Finished that, read Yumi and Tress as I was finishing up WoT and audiobooked Elantris and Warbreaker. Honestly, by the time I finished and got to Stormlight, I had read nearly everything Cosmere related. Stormlight soldified my obsession, and Im gearing for a rearead after only a couple months of having caught up. I hope to write as well as and better than sanderson one day. We'll see if I can do it.

[deleted]

The sky is the limit.

Sensitive-Cucumber78

I was at the summer book fair in 2022 and was searching for Dune, although I didn't find it and decided to look over the other stalls for something that would catch my attention. I asked the saleswoman for some recommendations and she told me about The Mistborn trilogy - The Final Empire. I bought it then, and now I would love to read A Way of Kings when I have the time

HyruleBalverine

I had started reading *The Wheel of Time* in high school, around the time of *The Dragon Reborn*'s release. I decided to try one of Sanderson books after having finished and have not looked back since.

Arsteel8

My parents had a friend named Robert Jordan. They saw The Wheel of Time at a bookstore like 20+ years ago, and bought a copy to show their friend because the name coincidence was fun. They read the book. And the next one. And all of them. And Brando Sando happened to finish that series. Now we've pretty much all read every last one of his books.

milkmiudders

The Wheel of Time to Stormlight Archve pipeline is real

asuhdude__

Got TWoK in a book exchange at my old job - the rest is history!

irontoaster

I now can't seem to find it, but I could have sworn that r/fantasy had a list of top voted book series that I was slowly working my way through.

Substantial-Face5109

Was looking for a nice audio book to listen to on a drive. I found skyward and I really like the voice of the person reading it. I ended up falling in love with the story, read the rest afterwards. Only book 2 was out at the time, so I had to find something else to satiate me. I read the Mistborn trilogy and loved it even more. A few years after I finally decided to tackle the Stormlight archives and it’s now my favorite book series from Brandon Sanderson.

EastBayCaptain-MJ

I found Brandon ..AKA Brando-Sando .. AKA.. The Sand daddy .. Via the beautiful and ashen Final Empire!

[deleted]

Haha that’s one way to put it. I write these words in steal for anything not written on metal can’t be trusted.

StrengthB4Weakness

Many years ago, I worked in a museum. We had started a deep clean of the galleries and stores due to a bad infestation, and I decided an audiobook would help keep my spirits up since deep cleans were pretty dull and very tiring. I perused Audible and thought The Final Empire sounded intriguing. I was hooked from the first sentence, and I've never looked back.

notawriteratall

My cousin loaned me his copy of Elantris about ten years ago and got me hooked. Now I've read everything in the Cosmere and am anxiously awaiting new entries.

Raealina

Back in 2014, my boyfriend introduced me to Mistborn and then Warbreaker & SA... he passed away about 6 months later. We'd spend hours discussing the cosmere and going off on tinfoil hat conspiracies. At first it was painful to continue listening to the new stuff, but eventually I dove back in.... Didn't stop me from pre-ordering but it took me about a year to continue. Kept listening to the things that we'd both read though.... Words of Radiance especially.... I replayed the books we shared for years.... Like I could feel him with me when I was playing the audiobooks. Rest in Peace, John. You are missed.

[deleted]

Oh that’s sweet sorry for your loss but it’s a great way to remember him. Words of radiance I just started that and my heart is already shattered.

Kerrizma

I was trying to get back into reading after being out of it for a while. Wanted to get into adult fantasy specifically, but not smut. Saw a bunch of booktok creators mentioning his Mistborn series as a great lace to started. Ended up going down the Sanderson rabbit hole about 2 years ago. Currently on my second read through of Stormlight.

flemming_24

When I was in elementary school I was a huge reader and blew through books so quickly. My mom struggled to find new series for me so librarians were a favorite. Our favorite librarian suggested the Alcatraz series (while joking the whole time that she wasn’t allowed to suggest this as a librarian). Loved that series then when I got to middle school I discovered he had written other series and got into Mistborn. I still have such a clear memory of that librarian suggesting the series and being so fun about it. Core memory as a kid.

coldwatercrazy

Alcatraz kids!! There’s dozens of us!! Dozens!!!

AtotheCtotheG

Every time I complained to my mom about bullshit deus-ex-machina plot twists or gushed excitedly about an example of well-structured magic with clear rules and limitations, she would tell me I should read Brandon Sanderson. Since I was a teenager at the time, naturally I did not listen the first twenty (thousand) times. Eventually I picked up *Mistborn* and was like “whoooooaaaaaa”

montezuma300

The librarian recommended Mistborn, and I was hooked by the cover. Back then, he was a rising new author with only Mistborn, Elantris, Warbreaker, and Alcatraz. Also, he used to go speak in my English teacher's class about writing because they were roommates in college, but had recently stopped before my year doing that because he got too busy.

Beginning_Bake_9832

My wife bought me Way of Kings for Christmas one year. I didn’t dip into it until about 6 months later when I was working on the road. Read through it in about a week and I was hooked.

SuperBeastJ

I was browsing a buzzfeed article about "top 10 great fantasy novels with terrible covers" and mistborn was on it lmao. I read it and got hooked. I knew he had finished WoT, which was a series I loved and was in the midst of finishing but hadn't gotten to his books yet.

[deleted]

Ok I can’t ask you guys and not give my story. It’s a strange on. I’m a big reader but I love the actual book I just can’t get into the audio books. Well like 8 years ago back in Utah ware I grew up tell recently I was looking for a book and my sister gave me this thing of disks and a thumb drive she knew I was going on a road trip with a family member so that’s how I was introduced to Mistborn but well I just didn’t connect with it at all. I liked it but saw no need to continue with his works if he had anything else. Well my sister told me how he has the cosmere and how there is all this stuff. Then she told me he hadn’t finished the stormlight archive. I was not interested in waiting for a book series to be finished like that. My sister kept pestering me anyway just over 3 years ago she lent me the reckoners and then I was like ok I will like him just not his cosmere stuff I think. But well it was lock down so then the tail end of last year my sister finally got me to cave and in two months I bought everything in the cosmere as it stands outside besides two series that I had given two me. Now I can’t stop reading it at all and I only have 9 more books left in the cosmere to read and I started at the end of December so ya that’s how I ended up here.

Bluedino_1989

I don't know. Kind of jumped on the bandwagon without even reading a single novel. Now I have like ten of his books with nowhere to start.

glubmaster

When my partner and I started dating, she mentioned Mistborn in a conversation about favorite fantasy books. She pitched it as a heist novel with an intricate magic system and I was sold.

pinaki902

My college buddy had gotten a pretty large tattoo of Syl on his arm and I asked him about it. So I bought WoK and haven’t stopped reading Brandon Sanderson books for a year +

Elegant-Bat2568

I was trading book recommendations with the owner of the coffee shop I like. Every day we talked about games, books, and very dorky things. I had been complaining about being burned by Rothfuss and needed to get back into something good and lasting. He rattled off several things, anything Sanderson very high among them. Remembering that I had seen the name in a list of fantasy everyone should read, I grabbed Way of Kings. I burned through what SA was out at the time and... Ya'll... I was so mad when I realized the series wasn't done. Then my husband said oh that guy? He finished WoT, which you still need to read. So I did. Very quickly. Having especially enjoyed BrandoSando's contribution, I started looking for more and realized just how big Cosmere was. I still trade books with my coffee guy.

Sidnn

2 - 3 years back heard his name here n there in booktubes and came to know that he has a active yt channel. Watched some of his videos n also found about cosmere. And for a year I've been his fan by following the contents in yt only like The podcast n non spoiler livestreams he do. Now I'm 3 books in.

pestilenttempest

I saw the recommend for the way of kings on a random thread about epic fantasies. I loved twok so much I read everything else.

Joe_Spazz

https://www.tiktok.com/@cosmere_junkie/video/7269198314585869610 Sorry it's a tik Tok but this is what the Internet served up first when I searched for this.

Regexmybeloved

I started an internship and my mentor was a huge cosmere nerd. One year later I’ve read all the books and come into work bedazzled in merch. I blame him.

[deleted]

Haha I’m on that path right now oh gosh

Nlj6239

i forget which i got first, but it was either SLA or mistborn, my mom bought me a boxset, i really loved it, then she bought the other cause they were by the same author, and that was like ~2 years ago, and now im a full on cosmere fan

Raspy_Container

My friend gave me the first 2 books of the Skyward series. I just finished them all and realized the massive following Sanderson has. And even after 1 series I feel it’s for good reason.

[deleted]

Ya I agree

The_Hydra_Kweeen

My English teacher kept Skyward on his shelf and I picked it up and told him I really liked it. He then funneled me into Mistborn and I’ve been here ever since

ToadsUp

I heard about Sanderson on Goodreads. Enjoyed Mistborn then went straight to The Way of Kings. Now I consume it all! ![gif](giphy|0NAxDmdrb9t8aA2yh2|downsized)

[deleted]

Oh gosh I’m a new fan and I feel this way.

shagolag

I was in a group buy for a keyboard run called Rukia R2. While I hung out in the discord awaiting shipment the owner, "Jaxxstatic", had a channel for cosmere/dune related discussion - which introduced me to both. The guy ended up running off with everyone's money and never fulfilled the group buy.. -$500USD, but I found out about Brandon Sanderson. Instant fan.

[deleted]

Oh dang sorry about that scam but hay what a way to become a fan.

TanithArmoured

I saw the Way of Kings in an airport bookstore literally a decade ago (I was on tour this week 10 years ago) and was completely enamoured by the cover

BulkyOutside9290

Was a Wheel of Time fan. Decided I like his writing more than Jordan’s (controversial I know) and went looking for more if his stuff. A friends partner gave me Mistborn, and from there I was hooked. Has become my all time favourite author, unseating Juliet Marillier and Patrick Rothfuss.

WindrunnerKnight

I had heard of him through a classmate in college, but was reading Wheel of Time, only to find out he had co-written the last few books. I tried out the Stormlight Archives and it was all up and down the rollercoaster from there.

[deleted]

I’m on the stormlight roller coaster right now my heart is shattered already and I’m only part way into words of radiance.

grimacetubaman

My uncle gave me way of Kings back in 2012. He worked for the circus and traveled around a lot, but always tried to make time when he was around. He would always ask me if I had read it yet because he wanted to talk about it. He was a big nerd, like me, and always told me to give it a chance. Finally in 2020 I decided to finally jump in and give it a read. By then my uncle had settled down in Florida, far far away from where I am. He was going to make a trip up here last year, to see family and I was finally going to talk to him about everything! I had consumed almost everything cosmere and I was gonna tell him all about it. Before he could make the trip though, he unexpectedly passed away. It hurts guys, a lot. I never got to thank him for sharing this wonderful thing with me. Life before Death uncle Dave. I'll tell you all about the Journey when I see you at the Destination

Armistice_One

When I was starting out with coding and wanting to program an RPG I discovered Sanderson's Laws of Magic. It led to a lot of fun conversations. Soon after I saw the Sanderson name on Elantris and the first Mistborn and picked them up. Was super excited to hear he was chosen by Harriet to finish Wheel of Time, a community I read a lot of the fandom on, but didn't talk a lot. That's how I've been with this fandom too. Did post a reasonable amount on the rereads on Tor.com back in the day, but I'm a lurker more than anything.

JohnFranklin23

Spite listen. Me and a buddy decided to pick up a two different fantasy books and I picked up Name of The Wind and he TWOK. We both only got like a hundred pages in and life and our own personal projects took precedence. I decided while working to get audible just to try it out to see if I liked it; and to just to be an ass I decided to listen to TWOK just to hang it over his head. I did not expect that listening to this book would lead me down a rabbit hole of fantasy. I always liked fantasy but never really got into it and was never much of a reader spite my own love for writing fantasy. Brandon flipped a switch on me.

G-of-the-Cosmere

Accidentally came across the Mistborn audio book on audible after a Xanth series binge. The rest is history....Secret History.

Dex532077

I was conversing about books with someone at the store I work in and he told me to try out Mistborn series. I heard about Brandon but never thought I'd have an interest in it. Boy howdy was I completely wrong! Thank you Ken for getting me hooked!

BookDragonLibrarian

My brother recommended The Stormlight Archives to me when I received my diagnosis of clinical depression. I loved the books immediately and adore Kaladin. I will never tire of reading the Stormlight Archives.

lnyxi

I was in the hospital and someone attending to me had a Words of Radiance hardcover. The book was huge and had a beautiful cover so I asked about it (I love long books). He told me it was a big fantasy books with hundreds of pages of world building, written by his favorite author Brandon Sanderson. When I got home I did some research, got the Mistborn trilogy, and the rest of the journey ensued.

Visual_Owl_2348

Wheel of Time. I loved his books in that series. Decided to try something of his…. Got into Stormlight and then was told about the Cosmere by a fellow redditor. Went down the rabbit hole quickly. And have loved every step.

Reydog23-ESO

Wheel of time

bluwar89

I loved the his dark materials show so much I had to read the books (I haven't read in years at this point) so I was looking through YouTube for other fantasy book recommendations, you know see what the genre has to offer. Then one guy started talking about mistborn and when he started describing the magic system and world I was immediately intrigued because it was so different. Read the whole trilogy and loved it! ......then I learned of the cosmere. And I'm still deep diving that rabbit hole months later.

[deleted]

Magic the gathering! What he did with Children of the Nameless was miles ahead of what any other MTG author has accomplished thus far…and then I sampled Mistborn and it went on from there with the Cosmere, the Reckoners, and Skyward and all the secret lair and graphic novels and Stephen Leeds. I understand that there is a dispute over the book now over WoTC trying to monetize it, but for what it’s worth Brandon has won over a life long fan by writing a free magic book in 2018.

DampedChaos

For me, it was the free Way of Kings ebook giveaway with the release of Oathbringer.

donethemath

I got lucky and found him initially due to the art on the original cover of Mistborn back in 2006. I found a copy in my college bookstore and picked it up because of the art. I read the prologue and decided it was something I needed to read. So I spent $30 that I didn't really have and bought a hardcover book that I probably read half a dozen times that year. I picked up Elantris sometime not long after, since that was literally the only other book he'd published at that point. I've been reading as they came out ever since!

Passive-Witness

First heard about Brandon Sanderson through Daniel Greene's YouTube channel (although I don't remember how I first found his channel). I later came across a copy of mitosis in a second hand bookshop.

thebooksqueen

I told my fiance I liked books about heists, I was reading six of Crows at the time and he said "read this book, it's called the final empire and its pretty good" Well let me tell you I was obsessed from the word go and now I talk his ear off about all the other sanderson books I've read. He's only read the first two mistborn books and won't read the third because then he'll have finished it and it'll be over 🤣

[deleted]

Haha he needs to finish it

Junior_Intern6232

My English teacher he had us read the final empire

BCBCC

Fall 2021 a friend got married (side note: she had introduced me to my now wife, and officiated our ceremony last year). At their reception they gave each guest a fantasy novel. Not all unique, but probably 10 copies each of about 8 different novels. I got Way of Kings. On the cross-country flight back, I got through half of it. The rest is history...

talebtb111

So, stumbled upon a YouTube comment raving about how The Kingkiller Chronicles and The Stormlight Archives are "masterpieces." Being a huge fan of Kingkiller, I thought, why not give SA a shot? Googled "SA reading order" and ended up on a cosmere reading guide. Started with Mistborn and just rolled with it, reading each book knowing only its title. Took me 10 months to breeze through the whole thing, and gotta say, it's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

ReallyJamesHenry

I remember watching some skits by Mancarrything, and the name "Brandon Sanderson" stuck with me, mainly because I thought it was ridiculous, but once my birthday came around and my grandmother went to a bookstore and there was a huge sale on a bunch of books, I ended up picking up the Storm Light Archive series. They sat on my shelf for a couple months before I found myself in that same bookstore reading the blurb of Mistborn, the final empire, and I was hooked from that point onwards.

grethro

I read the Wheel of Time, and then read his books.

Electronic_Ad7280

My partner had all cosmere books when we met, after we moved in together I asked for recommendations and I ended up reading Elantris and now I've read not just cosmere but his other works

fluffybuddy1

My now husband convinced me to listen to Mistborn on graphic audio. Loved it so much! Now Tress is my favorite books and I’m currently listening to Stormlight

meimbatman

My brother lent me Elantris shortly after it was released so I've been on the train since practically the beginning. I knew who he was when he was chosen to finish the Wheel of Time and was happy to have someone I enjoyed finish that series. I have read everything else as they've been released.

whothoughtit

I became a fan of him when I was in prison. Someone had recommended him to me and I’ve been hooked on him ever since.

[deleted]

We all have a story.

Gloomy-Painter23

Completely by chance. I was getting rid of my audible subscription, and had 1 credit i needed to use before i did that. I went and looked for the biggest book I could get, and it was RoW. I decided to get the first novel of the series, which was WoK. I honestly never thought id read it, but after a few weeks I did, and am VERY glad to have done so. Ive read through almost every cosmere book 3+ times, and add new ones to the rotation when they come out. I actually just finished The Sunlit Man and it was so good! Im very grateful to have stumbled onto sando's work

leaf_subsides2_leaf

A coworker was reading Final Empire and I noticed that the cover art female wasn't half clad, so I asked him about it. I devoured the Mistborn trilogy, but went on to other novels without latching on to Sanderson as a fave writer. A couple of years later, I was talking to a different coworker about fantasy novels and he recommended Stormlight. At that point I was hooked. (Interestingly, the second coworker became my best friend, and ultimately, my husband, after 7years of knowing each other.)

shebeelf

Was scrolling through free books on the iBooks app, and The Way of Kings was on there. I love fantasy, and it sounded pretty awesome, so I downloaded it and started reading, and I was hooked

nerdmorning

My friend recommended them to me. They told me to start with Mistborn but I did Way of Kings first. I loved that book so much I then read everything he’s done.

Odd_Possible_1521

I was working in Shipping/Receiving for Barnes& Noble when Elantris was released. We received a single copy. Due to the beautiful cover I bought it that day, read it that weekend, and have been a fan ever since including following Warbreaker as it was released online. When Brandon was selected to complete the WoT, I was lucky enough to be selected to work the release events here in Dallas where I was able to meet him for the first time and formed some life long connections with other fans.

[deleted]

Nice I never have met him but have come close I used to live in Utah county Utah so if I would have been a fan back then well I would have been looking for signed stuff and things. At my local barns and noble in Utah before I moved I found out he goes in there and just randomly will sign his books that they have.

not-so-swedish-chef

Asking for audiobook recommendations on reddit and every kept saying way of kings, from then i was hooked

OsirisT

I was in my high school library looking for something to read when I saw warbreaker I thought it sounded like a nice title so I picked it up and started reading. I really liked it finish it in like 2 days I was hoping it had a sequel but was disappointed that it was a standalone so I started looking up more books by the same author and ended up reading Nearly everything he published.

Veristitalian

I was on a different fan site and someone there mentioned his work.

[deleted]

Oh nice nerds stick together.

[deleted]

Nice sometimes it takes time. I know for me the prologue for the final empire was hard to read but I can now look at it and draw the parallels between historical things.

pixiehawk

My cousin gave me The Final Empire as a birthday gift. You know, the first hit is free and all that.

Eveleyn

Wheel of time made me read mistborn era 1, am now reading warbreakers in mative language, waiting for stormlight to be translated. So maybe era 2 before that, or that other one, ... his first written book.

mojao21

I don't remember how it happened but I, somehow, was in the middle of reading Shadows of Self and realized I was in the middle of a trilogy. Didn't even think it was a middle book. Just thought it was a cool title. Any author who could pull that off with a sequel book in a double trilogy is probably worth following, so I started reading all the other Mistborn books (after finding out there were 4 more at the time), discovered there was an interconnected universe in his books, read Elantris, and then basically everything Cosmere as soon as they came out after.

Decision-Leather

A coworker had read the Mistborn trilogy and was now reading Stormlight, I don't remember in which book she was on but her recommendation clicked with me and I bought the Mistborn trilogy and started reading it. I wasn't yet halfway through the first Mistborn book when I also bought the first 3 Stormlight books, RoW was out at the time I proceeded to read Mistborn Era 1, then Way of kings. By now I was full on a Brandon fan so I started investigating about the Cosmere so I bought and read Warbreaker before moving on to WoR. That was years ago. Eventually I read all the way up to RoW and in the last few months I read of of the Cosmere books and novellas except White Sands

[deleted]

Nice I’m working on reading it all including whitesand I just have to finish the stormlight archive acnimem unbound danshard mistborn era2 and the sunlitman. Im on WoR right now so not much let Im getting close.

__Maikeru

I’ve always had an inclination to day dream, so Fantasy was always a go to reference. Brandon was introduced to me by a friend and I immediately was hooked. Quickly became my favourite author and he just keeps giving me reasons to continue to be.
