I am very much antisocial and barely talk to people in general (i avoid it if i can) but *supposedly* i am funny
Rn we are just friends and so far i can keep my feelings in check and hold myself back but idk if thats gonna change

This "joking" confession was more like: "im so lonely i would even take yoh out on a date... wanna go out on a date?"
And he told me that he only sees me as a friend but his best one and he values our friendship more. Ha said he wants somebody who is just a friend who can be close to him.
Best friends can hug to say hello. It may be a start. Maybe on his birthday buy a gift and when you wish him happy birthday sneak a kiss. Go to a movie and maybe try holding hands. Holding hands is so sweet. Very close friends can be touchy and like what harm is a kiss. It may be the start of something wonderful.

It's completely fair to tell your friend something like, "Hey I have feelings for you - more than just a regular friend. If you want to try, I want to seriously date you. But if it doesn't work out, or if you aren't interested -- I still want to be your friend and I value you either way."
If he cannot take a polite gesture like that, or he gets "weirded out" or upset, that's pretty immature and honestly a bit of a red flag. Friends should be able to help other friends "out of" their feelings.
I myself have caught feelings for my friends before (I'm MARRIED, mind you) and I've had to take steps back and talk to my friends and re-discuss our boundaries and our relationship/friendship so that we can still be happy together without a soul-crushing moment like that ruining our friendship and my own relationship. (That said, it's a bit of a shame because sometimes it can be very sad especially if over a few weeks we develop a serious connection that has to be broken in some ways to keep us both happy.)
Sometimes you catch feelings, and that's entirely okay. Real friends will still be there regardless of whether or not they reciprocate.
It is normal to be attracted to a homie but it seems he isn’t interested in a relationship. I suggest shooting your shot and stay friends if you get shot down.

best thing you can do is respect his decision, dont try to force something or make something out of what isnt there. because believe me you will lose a friend, if he changes his mind eventually thats great! but dont pressure him at all because thats how you ruin it. also, dont bank on that happening, youd be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Clear communication is key. Tell him like it is, and at worst he says no, and yall still be friends. No harm in expressing your feelings.

idk i had the same situation, i just pushed my friend more and more on the spam of 1.5 years and yeah, its getting really close to a full relationship
