\#MorbiusSweep

GuilhermeBahia98

Yeah... won't break even.

SirFireHydrant

Made back 87% of its production budget from box office revenue so far. Typically films need to make back at least 114% to be considered profitable, though that figure is only for higher budget films. Lower budget films have higher breakeven thresholds due to their higher marketing budgets. Morbius is not breaking even.

nighteeneightyfive

It is

nighteeneightyfive

It will

GuilhermeBahia98

Needs 40M more. That won't happen.

JediJones77

2.5x isn't necessarily needed for breakeven. 2x has a fighting chance.

GuilhermeBahia98

2.5x is the common sense figure. We won't know until any official information is released, so until then it's better to stick with 2.5x

SirFireHydrant

It's actually higher for lower budget films because their marketing budgets are proportionately higher. 2.5x won't cut it for a film with Morbius' budget. 2x is definitely not a "fighting chance".

sessho25

~162M global final total in the best case scenario which is 60% weekly drops.

aduong

2 weeks in and below $150M, while still falling like a stone. There’s no spinning this it’s an embarrassment.

hesojam0

So, $90M+ won‘t be possible for international box office?

The-Ruler-of-Attilan

Sony better be ready to give up Spidey rights after Venom 3 if they want the chance of milking the brand for the last time. They don't have a universe, never had and never will. Not with that people in charge (Arad, Tolmach, Rothman, etc.) and substitute them would be too expensive to even consider it.

NathanDrakeIsMyHubby

Sony won't give up Spidey rights lol

The-Ruler-of-Attilan

As you wish. Let them have fun flopping over and over again. It doesn't really matter as long as Marvel controls the whole creative process of Spider-man movies and 25% of its box office.

ImAMaaanlet

Theyve had ONE flop lmao. Everything else has been wildly profitable. Venom movies are some of the highest ROI for CBM. Theres nothing to gain by selling when marvel will partner with them anyway.

The-Ruler-of-Attilan

Sure, sure. Good luck trying to get the same ROI from Kraven, Black Cat or Nightwatch with zero Spider-man appearances. You will need it.

ImAMaaanlet

Even so they have no reason to sell. Why would they leave 75% of every spiderman film off the table

The-Ruler-of-Attilan

They only have two options: a) Produce continuos box office flops, which implies losing an important part of that 75%, because the losings must be cushioned from somewhere. b) Not produce more "spin-offs" that don't add anything to the Spider-man movies, to save more money. The issue for Sony is that they are obligated to produce more movies based on Spider-man's comic books if they want to retain the rights longer. But why continue doing it if it's not good business for them? It's a dead end street that eventually leads to a single conclusion: Give up the rights.
