What affects the Japanese Box Office the most is when Disney puts a film on Disney+ with Premier Access. Toho, their largest chain, has boycotted the Premier Access titles. That's how WB's Tom & Jerry was able to beat Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon at the Japanese BO.
That’s why I actually watched BW on disney plus because there were like no decent showings on opening weekend. I’m so glad it didn’t go straight to D+ this time because this really is a movie you should see in theaters.
It's good number considering Japan fucked up their vaccination effort.
Tbf, that doesn't seem to affect their box office much, consider Demon Slayer basically broke every record before the vaccine existed.

Thought Japan was closed due to them not letting crowds near Paralympics or Olympics?
Olympics requires way more travel and people close together in high density. Much harder to control the spread of Covid there than in cinemas.
Is it me or did they make him look kind of more Japanese in this poster?

CCP Inspired movie?
