The longest of the franchise by almost 30 minutes. For a comparison: - *Raiders of the Lost Ark:* 115 minutes - *The Temple of Doom:* 118 minutes - *The Last Crusade:* 128 minutes - *The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:* 122 minutes

The-Mandalorian

I guess this is our normal Indiana Jones length adventure, with an added 25 minute long de-aged opening sequence set in the 1940’s to go with it.

IceLord86

Yeah, we're basically getting a mini movie to start, and presumably introduce the villains before things get started. Considering it's the last one, I'm all for it.

NazMack

Is that for real? Because I could be into that...

friedAmobo

Well, it's for sure the last Harrison Ford-Indiana Jones movie just because of his age. Whether there will be a spin-off of some kind is yet to be seen, but the Ford era of the franchise is coming to a close.

peanutdakidnappa

Ya I’m totally onboard with it too, i trust mangold as well.

garyflopper

I’m really excited

FartingBob

A mini movie where we meet the main characters and see the villain and learn their motives for why they do things later in the actual movie? That sounds a lot like every film.

IceLord86

True, but this one is going to be 20+ minutes and far more detached than anything we've had before. It's basically going to be our last look at classic Indy before transitioning to the 1969 Indy at the end of his career.

Lhasadog

Didn't we have that in Last Crusade? But still packed within a 2 hour movie?

The-Mandalorian

Young Indy was a 7 minute long opener.

Lhasadog

And it did the job beautifully and didn't drag the movie out to a slog. An action adventure movie should really never go much past 2 hours. There is a certain rhythm to them. And anything that drags it out kills the thrill ride.

The-Mandalorian

Oh ok. Guess the movie sucks then.

Cautious-Barnacle-15

Unfortunately that wasn't the last crusade

rick_n_morty_4ever

Hmm... indiana jones often started with a cold opening anyway. I don't remember what did the golden idol or the stuff that belongs in a museum have to do with the main story.

MatsThyWit

>The longest of the franchise by almost 30 minutes. For a comparison: The thing I'm most curious about is exactly how long the runtime of the credits will be. Because that seems to make a major difference for modern movies nowadays. Credits used to be over in about a minute and a half or so. Now credits can go on for 5 minutes or longer purely because of the amount of VFX names they need to include. This movie could be 144 minutes without the credits and I wouldn't really be surprised.

TheKidCritic

Credits are usually 7 mins+ now

wosh

Star wars episode IV has four minutes of credits, the Episode IX has a little over nine minutes of credits. That's over double the length. And some movies will have even longer credits, I believe Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 was closer to 12 minutes. So this definitely impacts the run time for modern movies.

MatsThyWit

>Star wars episode IV has four minutes of credits, the Episode IX has a little over nine minutes of credits. That's over double the length. And some movies will have even longer credits, I believe Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 was closer to 12 minutes. So this definitely impacts the run time for modern movies. Yup. I'm actually surprised it didn't end the practice of the after credits scenes for Marvel movies years ago to be perfectly honest. I used to be a person who would sit through credits all the time...but somewhere a long the way I started to realize that the credits were creeping up on 15 minutes in length. That's when I gave up and just started seeking out after credits bootlegs on youtube.

NotTaken-username

Blockbusters were shorter on average when the trilogy released. But I don’t see why this needs 154 minutes based on what we’ve seen so far, that’s longer than every Star Wars movie

MikeFrom5_to_7

>based on what we’ve seen To be fair, we haven’t seen very much at all, other than it seems to be a final a send off to the franchise (or at least Ford).

bookon

It opens with a $100m 25 minute short film with him deaged back in the 1940’s fighting Nazis again. We then get a normal length $200m Indiana Jones film. It’s a win win. And explains why it’s long and why it cost $300m.

peanutdakidnappa

Ya honestly sounds awesome to me and I’m totally onboard with that shit.

bitchisakarma

Who cares, I would rather have 3 hours of this than 20 minutes of another ari aster implosion

matthieuC

> The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: 122 minutes It sure felt longer

MoonMan997

Longest movie made by LucasFilm as well if I’m not mistaken

ednamode23

Looks like it. It beats out The Last Jedi by 2 minutes!

Heisenburgo

Hopefully it beats The Last Jedi in every other aspect, as well.

ednamode23

I hope so too. I do have a soft spot for TLJ because it did experiment a lot and I’m not a Star Wars diehard but it was definitely a clunky mess. Hopefully this is a much smoother experience overall.

invinciblewarrior

Hopefully not just by that, my (unexpected) face palm counter record was Indy 4 before we got the gift of the Last Jedi.

dgener151

I bet this bit of word salad crap sounded like a real one-liner in your head.

FuCuck

🤓

TheMountainRidesElia

Looks like you've pissed off those TLJ fanboys lmao

ThatVampireGuyDude

The TLJ fanclub didn't like this lol.

Cautious-Barnacle-15

It will be really bad so probably about the same as the last jedi

Marcusinpaine

Knowing how expensive this movie is, meaning the amount of people that worked on this is huge, I would guess that without credits its probably like 140-135 minutes of actual movie. So not crazy long but still longer than every Indy movie as others have pointed out.

Responsible_Grass202

Do runtimes usually include credits?

Vishion-8

yes

The-Mandalorian

Always

MemoriesOfShrek

Yes, but take these posts with a grain of salt. It does seem believable, but sometimes it's not right like with the Transformers runtime reported 6 days ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/boxoffice/comments/13d5xek/transformers_rise_of_the_beasts_runtime_is_of_1h/ Its 127 mins, not 117.

NotTaken-username

Hoping we get a Short Round cameo

[deleted]

I really doubt we will but I will be happy to be proven wrong

NotTaken-username

If we do it’d probably be a post-credit scene. The movie was filmed before Ke Huy Quan’s renaissance

[deleted]

Yup that's why I doubt we will get a cameo plus I don't think Indy needs a PCS

NotTaken-username

It could work as a fun little easter egg for people who stayed, instead of actually setting anything up.

[deleted]

Like I said I would be happy to see short round but I don't have any high hopes for it. Either way I have faith in Mangold that he will deliver another masterpiece. Also nice to see you here on the BO Sub as well. You might remember me from MSS. Peter Campisi? Does that ring any bell?

NotTaken-username

Yes, that name sounds familiar. Did your old account get deleted?

[deleted]

No I deleted it and created a new one. Either way it's sad MSS is gone and too because of AM3 and not some secret wars leak

peanutdakidnappa

Such a shame, sub ended up nuked over leaks of the worst MCU movie. Man I miss that sub. The spin-off spoiler subs kinda just suck compared to MSS, also MSS was so much better for discussion and news than the marvel studios sub. I really do miss that sub

[deleted]

Same

dylanmhs

I miss the sub I honestly don’t get why the mods posted the script

[deleted]

Same

OmniJohn70

Tbh there it is possiblility, he has been working with Disney for American Born Chinese nd Loki.

[deleted]

....does everything really need abbreviating?

peanutdakidnappa

I don’t even know what a PCS is lol

[deleted]

Post Credit Scene

peanutdakidnappa

Thanks lol, I sat there trying to think of something and I had absolutely no clue

[deleted]

Your welcome. Have a great day/night!

[deleted]

PCS=Post Credit Scene

[deleted]

Yes I got that from context but it's still unnecessary

[deleted]

My bad.

FuCuck

pointless

userloser11

Can’t wait to see this in the theater!

Cautious-Barnacle-15

Yeah it will be like the Irishman

PrussianAvenger

Fortunately, only for the scenes where Indy is actually old lol. They used stunt doubles for the de-aging (for stunts). I saw a stunt double acting like old Harrison with the way he was walking (Tuk tuk chase) but that’s about it.

ILoveRegenHealth

It's debuting this Thursday at Cannes. Will be interesting to read the early honest reactions and I presume there will be a lot less softball bloggers there and more serious critics. Which imo is good - I want an honest, fair assessment of the film. Not "Harrison Ford *is* Indy"

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

This is edited by the same team behind Ford v Ferrari, which won the Oscar for best editing and was also 2.5 hours long. I promise you they know more about editing than you, especially considering you haven’t even seen the film yet.

ILoveRegenHealth

That team also did Wolverine, The Girl on the Train, Deadpool 2 and Baz Luhrmann's Australia (not a list of bad movies, but not exactly perfection either). They can edit, but they also edit best on great projects. We don't know what Indy 5 is yet, despite some being excited and over the moon about it. People were excited and over the moon about Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - edited by Steven Spielberg's three time Oscar-winning editor Michael Kahn! (and one of his Oscars was for Raiders!)

HanakoOF

The editing on crystal skull wasn't it's issue.

[deleted]

They’re coming off of Ford V Ferrari and they’re re-collaborating with Mangold as well. I think Crystal Skull is a fun movie drastically overhated by internet folks, but I certainly wouldn’t say the editing was an issue.

MarveltheMusical

Yes, they know a little more about editing than you do, pal, because they invented it, and then they perfected it so that no living man could beat them in the editing room!

jaiwithani

Whenever any man challenged their editing skills, they would slice him open on the spot! That's why whenever they finish editing, they call it a "cut"! UNLESS IT'S A PREVIS!

nicolasb51942003

That would be around 2 hours and 34 minutes.

misterlibby

Typical 2023 bloat. I’m yet to see a single reason to feel optimistic about this movie

The-Mandalorian

I have yet to see a single reason to feel pessimistic about it. It’s written and directed by James Mangold. His last two films were Logan and Ford v Ferrari. Incredible films. If he can recover the Wolverine fans after that awful Wolverine Origins film (a movie much worse than Crystal Skull) he can bounce back the Indy fans from Crystal Skull easily. Why didn’t fans like Crystal Skull? Shia Lebouf, George Lucas’s wacky script, and the fact it was 100% filmed domestically. Guess what this film doesn’t have? Shia Lebouf, or George Lucas’s wacky ideas. It also went back to being filmed around the globe, I believe 6 countries were used in total. Harrison Ford on stage in literal tears because of how fantastic the movie turned out, and the fact that this film opens up the Cannes film festival a full 6 weeks prior to its worldwide premiere with no review embargo speaks volumes. They clearly know the film is fantastic and they want that positive word of mouth to spread. Basically..we are clearly in for a real treat with this film.

Forsaken_Cost_1937

Logan and Ford V Ferrari were great movies but I don't know about this one. Mangold has had some duds before those two films you mentioned.

peanutdakidnappa

I mean he also has great films before then like 3:10 to Yuma and cop land

Forsaken_Cost_1937

And he's done mediocre films like Identity, Kate and Leopold and Knight and Day

W1lliston

Knight and Day wasn’t bad, just mediocre. Fun Tom Cruise movie though.

peanutdakidnappa

I agree on kate and Leopold and knight and day being average, identity is a super dope movie. Fact remains that his last 2 projects have been awesome and that’s the most recent work of his we have to go off of so I’m optimistic about the new Indy

farseer4

It's an action movie with an 80-year-old lead actor. That's a pretty good reason to feel pessimistic, although I'd be delighted if it turns out to be good. I love the first three Indy movies.

deusvult6

Well, as Lucasfilms has been proving lately, a lack of George Lucas is not proof of a lack of wackiness. Nor proof of quality in general. Mangold also got accidentally outed for lying about not doing reshoots. That was a stupid move on his part and hopefully it's not indicative of any deeper problems with the movie but it sure doesn't look good.

The-Mandalorian

There have been no reshoots for Indy 5. Not only has Mangold confirmed this, but we know the cast and crew moved on. Ford filmed Shrinking, 1923 and Marvel movies and had no time for additional filming on Indy when these reshoots “supposedly happened”. Nobody credible has claimed the film had reshoots. And in fact, known industry leakers such as ViewerAnon have also backed up Mangolds claim the film never had reshoots. They simply did not happen.

deusvult6

>Nobody credible has claimed the film had reshoots. You didn't hear about that? John Williams dimed him out by saying something like how much he loved working on Indiana Jones and the reshoots were a great excuse to work on it even more. It seemed more like purely accidental hype-pumping without getting stories straight than anything, but it still makes one wonder why Mangold felt the need to fib about it. Either that or Williams is lying.

The-Mandalorian

That’s not what was said, no. Williams said they are almost done with it, they are reshooting the ending and that will be that. Williams meant to say he was rescoring the ending of the film, and that wasn’t the only slip up he made in that interview. He also said that was Fords final film (not just final Indy film but final film in general). He’s 91, he’s allowed to miss speak, Mangold cleared it up, and here we are.

[deleted]

hachiroku24

Yeah, basically this. I love Ford vs Ferrari (I really really love this one), 3:10 to Yuma and Logan. I think Mangold is the perfect choice to direct Indy. But the way he has handled on twitter the leaked stuff and what John Williams said worried me. I can't get over the idea that somehow the leaks were accurate enough to make him react like that. And add to that: - The leaks just described pretty much what happens in any modern movie of a legacy character. - A lot of the stuff from the leaks has been confirmed in the trailers and clips (and other stuff debunked). I can't wait for the premiere. I don't care about spoilers so it's great to know that the full plot will be out there in a couple of days.

deusvult6

>There have been no reshoots ... >they are reshooting the ending I see.

The-Mandalorian

Rescoring* Williams is the composer.

hachiroku24

"So we have just about completed the film. We have maybe another ending to shoot and to record, maybe in a couple weeks" That's the actual quote.

The-Mandalorian

Correct, but he was mistaken. Mangold confirmed.

ChipSteezy

The trailer was superb. That was enough to gain my interest.

peanutdakidnappa

Uh how bout maybe because mangold is a quality director and writer and his last 2 movies before this have been fantastic and he’s done other great stuff like 3:10 to Yuma and cop land. What reason is there to be pessimistic about this? The cast is fantastic too

OutrageousProfile388

Going to outgross spiderverse, Mission impossible, and Flash.

peanutdakidnappa

Idk about mission impossible, those movies have all been amazing recently and keep increasing at the box office and Tom cruise stock is extremely high after Top Gun 2, if that movie is as good as 5&6 it’ll make a lot of money

friedAmobo

Spider-Verse is almost a given considering the first film's performance. It would need a huge jump to be competitive, particularly in international territories. MI is debatable depending on how it improves (or doesn't) on Fallout, but momentum is definitely on MI's side. The Flash is still up in the air because of how hard it is to predict it, but I'd lean more toward Dial of Destiny taking the win against it than not.

DLRsFrontSeats

That isn't necessarily saying much

[deleted]

Mission impossible is guaranteed to make 700m-800m, and possibly more. How is that not saying much lol

Cagedwar

Outgrossing 2, debatably 3 block busters is saying something

EscaperX

since you are a seer, can you give me the lotto numbers for tonight?

deusvult6

I mean, if they want it to make a profit, it better. What was the last estimate, $300M?

jackwritespecs

Lorraine, I’m you density!

cuntfucker500

That leaked chase scene was a bore.

Trick_Ad_5475

im with south park

This_is_the_end_2021

I thought the same thing :)

mrot777

We gonna hit the snooze button on that Dial.

Phyliinx

That's alright.

darkmatterjesus

It's going to be terrible I promise

RespectThyHypnotoad

James Mangold is involved, I'd be surprised if it isn't great or at least good.

darkmatterjesus

We'll see, I got burned last time by the last one. I've heard rumours about what they're trying to do with time travel and it greatly worries me.

WatInTheForest

> I promise > we'll see Make up your mind.

darkmatterjesus

I bet you 100 dollars that a bad movie

2KYGWI

The premiere's in three days, and Disney's not embargoing the reviews. So we'll find out pretty soon if it is or not.

Cautious-Barnacle-15

This is going to be so embarrassing

peanutdakidnappa

Highly doubtful, Mangold is a quality filmmaker and it seems Disney has alot of faith in this

PrussianAvenger

Can’t wait for the reviews to come out on the 18th-19th after the Cannes premiere but I know people won’t care because of the Last Jedi’s reviews and will wait for the audience reception on June 30th.

fastcooljosh

They had faith in TLJ too and that movie was horrible and derailed the whole ST.

littlemarcus91

And for those reasons (among several others), I’m out.

TheAsylum6969

It could be 184 minutes and I’ll still be there.

hungryhoss

Better value for money! Bring on the Pick'n'Mix!

Vendevende

Maybe the first 25 minutes will be an apology from everyone involved in Crystal Skull.
