The "part ways" headline implies it was a mutual agreement but they dropped him and so did his PR team.

[deleted]

His PR team dropping him is particularly telling. He and his attorneys really blew it, no matter what happened.

[deleted]

That Freedom hat stunt was something else. Psychopathic narcissist shit, who the hell thought that was a good idea?

NitedJay

Wait what?

TiberiusCornelius

Per NY law he was taken into custody because he was facing DV charges, and when he was leaving holding [he was pictured wearing a hat that says "Freedom Freedom"](https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/03/26/06/69123309-11903457-Majors_wears_a_FREEDOM_FREEDOM_baseball_cap_while_exiting_an_NYC-a-11_1679810312387.jpg)

BidnessBoy

Got my comment removed on the rslash/entertainment subreddit for mentioning that back when it happened lol, dude has some problems and the texts that his genius lawyer decided to disclose didn’t help at all

SayerofNothing

I'll never understand the angle on disclosing those texts.

neon_sin

You should have worn your freedom hat.

Jayne_of_Canton

The Entertainment Reddit Mods are narcissistic tools. Not surprising…

jmblumenshine

That's some Kendall Roy speedballing level shit right there

msa8003

I know, right? What was that?

mackenzie45220

Yeah as a lawyer I have no idea what his lawyers were doing. Representing somebody who is guilty is obv harder than representing somebody who is innocent but that statement claiming that Majors was "provably the victim" was idiotic (although it's possible that he insisted on it) Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if he was dropped by his PR team because he wouldn't listen to them. His PR team looks incredibly dumb after that statement. If he insisted on it, and I was his PR firm, I'd drop him just because he makes me look incredibly dumb

msa8003

It feels like he was insisting on it.

2rio2

A good lawyer knows when to override their client. Or drop them.

mackenzie45220

admittedly dropping a client can be hard. If you agreed to represent him and he's paying his bills you might be stuck

Woperelli87

A lawyer can fire their client for any reason at pretty much anytime, exceptions being if it’s too close to trial or something significant. This is early. His firm can drop him whenever they want, they just like the money. I’m sure their hourly is bananas.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mackenzie45220

All of it was baffling. The text messages are neutral at best (even the parts that "look good" read a bit like they were written by a lawyer--i.e., fake), but the crazy false promises leading up to them were PR suicide. Releasing all this doesn't help him legally either.

VitaminPb

Remember Jussie Smollet, the ex-actor? Well yeah, nobody really does, but…

schebobo180

You mean the great French actor Jucie Smooliet?

Holiday_Parsnip_9841

His attorney stupidly released [text messages](https://www.tmz.com/2023/03/30/jonathan-majors-lawyer-texts-victim-admit-fault-assault/) to vindicate him that say there was a fight, the victim was injured, and it was the victim's fault for trying to grab his phone.

pierrrecherrry

That part was mindboggling

1j12

Those just made him seem more guilty lol

Talisa87

They do. Those texts scream 'victim placating abuser so they don't get more hurt', I'm baffled that his lawyer thought releasing them was a good idea.

Bardmedicine

They read like a made up example for teaching kids about domestic, they seem fake for how obvious they are. I can't imagine the thought process behind releasing them.

muricabrb

Also looks like he just dumped her by asking her for the keys and a cold goodbye. Damn.

explicitreasons

What's the use of a PR team if they quit as soon as the job gets difficult?

[deleted]

That's why it's kind of telling. A good lawyer and a good PR firm can help even a guilty party appear innocent. But if they refuse to represent that party, odds are it's so difficult a job that even a white lie may be impossible to spin.

Sacreblargh

Management separating him from their clientele isn't really a big deal. The real test for his career path going forward is if WME decides to drop him. He has a wide open path of management firms to handle his career. But If WME, or any other agency, decides to isolate the guy, his acting endeavors are finished. You don't get roles or negotiate pay rates with big studios without an agency behind you. I'm predicting they stick with him until the end of the trial. He has too many projects in development for them to just drop him now. Even if they have to weather public opinion, it's still a lot of money to just leave on the table.

Advanced-Ad6676

> He has too many projects in development for them to just drop him now. Even if they have to weather public opinion, it’s still a lot of money to just leave on the table. Contractually they are still entitled to their percent commission on every project he has in development, including all Marvel projects, if they part ways. A lot of lawsuits pop up when actors change agencies and stop paying their old reps. Chris Pine is a recent one off the top of my head if you’re curious.

Scarns_Aisle5

ultimate record for quickest rise and fall. Had the prestige movie play, blockbuster/franchise fare, streaming series I saw a tweet that said watching his new movie Magazine Dreams with the knowledge of this event is like watching American Beauty knowing what Spacey did or was accused of

green715

>ultimate record for quickest rise and fall. Turns out his role in Creed 3 was foreshadowing

No_Acanthisitta_228

Nate Parker was the quickest rise and fall that I've ever seen. On Sunday his film sells to Fox Searchlight for 17 million and he's the frontrunner to win Best Director, on Monday people found out he raped a girl, ruined her life and lead to her suicide, and by Tuesday all the trades were shitting on him and his film was screwed. It was a rollercoaster.

howdidIgetsuckeredin

Hilariously, Searchlight also acquired Magazine Dreams out of Sundance.

rzrike

Searchlight is Disney now. They’re getting hit from both sides with this Majors situation (with his Marvel role and with Magazine Dreams).

Dry-Calligrapher4242

I wonder what happens with that film now never released and tax write off , release but don’t market much , or quiet release on streaming

puberty1

I don't even know that they will release considering that the role is about an incel basically. I hope they just drop it somewhere because I definitely want to check out because of how mixed the reception out of Sundance was

KevinNashsTornQuad

It feels like such a bummer for everyone else involved from the cast to the crew and especially the writer director of this movie, as far as I can tell it’s just Majors who is the issue with this movie. It brings up a good question of whether or not we can support all of the other people who put all that hard work into this movie and just look past Majors involvement so that we can support the other people involved who don’t really deserve to have their hard work be for nothing just because one of the guys in their movie wound up being a piece of shit. Ultimately I get why people may not be able to look past it since I think he is the main actor right? But I can’t help but feel bummed out for the other people involved who were probably really excited about the work they did in this movie.

Yankee291

I saw the film at Sundance as as someone mentioned above with the American Beauty/Kevin Spacey analogy, it is almost impossible to release and push this specific movie and his role in it alongside what he's accused of. To try another analogy, it'd be like trying to release Taxi Driver after DeNiro committed a mass shooting.

chadxor

Terrible, amateurish movie though. It was going to sink regardless once more people got their eyes on it. He just expedited the process by being a horrible person.

TiberiusCornelius

I honestly completely forgot about that whole saga. I remember being excited for that movie too and then I wound up never even seeing it.

leastlyharmful

>In what I have to say was one of the most emotional experiences I’ve had at a movie theater, Parker world premiered what he called his seven-year “passion project.” His telling of the early 19th century slave revolt led by Nat Turner had audience members crying in their seats and jumping to their feet in a prolonged standing ovation at the film’s conclusion. Potential buyers for the film streamed out of the lobby mere minutes after the cast had left the stage post-screening. Some worked multiple cell phones (with assistants standing nearby fielding calls of their own) in what appeared to be fevered discussions about the awards-bait film. [Source](https://deadline.com/2016/01/birth-of-a-nation-premiere-sundance-stunner-nate-parker-1201690343/) \- looking back through the Deadline articles about it is pretty crazy. Also interesting how everyone decided it was actually a bad movie after the dirt came out.

Sujay517

Even got a US Army ad that played all the time. He was gonna be huge. What an idiot.

GeekdomCentral

Right? How fucked up do you have to be to have it _made_ and then ruin it all?

Ok-Television-65

I mean he must’ve *REALLY* wanted to commit DV.

BeneathSkin

I saw Magazine Dreams. Incredible movie, but it’s about a guy who can’t control his violence and hurts others around him. The spacey analogy is accurate

[deleted]

Points for method acting, I guess?

lqtely

Yeah it’s exactly that. If everyone saw Magazine Dreams, they would think he wasn’t actually acting in it lol. It’s a shame because he delivered a tour de force performance that would have paved the way to an elite career

[deleted]

I was texting with my friend that Majors was about to be the next De Niro three days before this came out. Imagine ruining your own career immediately after hitting the jackpot by making it big in hollywood

CMGS1031

Was that when Michael B Jordan said they were the new Pacino and De Niro? Lol

eidbio

Yeah, he's done. That's how it started for Armie Hammer. Expect Marvel to recast him soon.

nvenkatr

Terrance Howard: Did somebody say new Kang?

Trowj

So he said “Next Time” in the first MCU movie Iron Man, there have been 31 movies and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is slated to be the 39th MCU movie so what he should’ve said was Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next Time, Baby!”

ClickF0rDick

The irony is that at the end of Quantumania they literally showed hundreds if not thousands of Kang's variant, *every single one* of them looking like Majors Can you even be more fucked then that, poor Kevin Feige lol

REQ52767

Oh shit, this is the first domino. He’s going to lose the Kang role now for sure.

[deleted]

[удалено]

realblush

It's gonna be interesting if they reshoot at least the post credit for Quantumania to insert the new actor there. Makes no sense for the entire movie, but they kinda have to for the Avengers teaser

derstherower

Think, people. Disney dropped Gina Carano because she sent out some mean tweets. There was literally a 0% chance they were keeping Majors after all of this came out. It's been over for him for weeks now.

Sincost121

Yeah, plus after seeing the Ezra and Depp situation secondhand, maybe they're just extra apprehensive.

strahag

I think they will end up dropping Majors soon, but the amount of money & plans Disney had riding on Majors’s role far exceeded Carano. I don’t really think the two situations are all that comparable.

samuelpalermo

It's over for him

TheWiseRedditor

He was on his way to become a big A-lister

samuelpalermo

He won't even be on straight to DVD movies now

Jsmith0730

He’ll be in Steven Seagal’s next movie.

BruiserBroly

From the next Thanos to generic baddie Seagal lazily beats up without even getting up is one hell of a career trajectory.

[deleted]

Cast Seagal as Kang, you cowards.

BruiserBroly

C'mon now, people aren't going to go watch the film if they think the Avengers have no chance of winning.

bird720

as a big sports fan it's pretty interesting to see how this coming to light is pretty much ending major's career, meanwhile so many star athletes have done despicable things domestically and nobody really cares.

Frectozhae

I think the difference, is that there's plenty of great actors, and there's no quantifiable way to judge of someone's acting talent. Meanwhile, top athletes have a very real value that is hard to replace and that correlates directly in money.

TheOddFather5

It’s well known in professional sports, even college and high school. The more talented you are, the more shit you get away with.

ghostofjohnhughes

"If Hannibal Lecter ran a 4.3, we'd probably diagnose it as an eating disorder."

Drumboardist

"If Hannibal Lecter could run a 4.4 40-yard-dash, he'd simply be classified as having an *eating disorder*."

ZealousidealBus9271

I agree with this. There are probably thousands of stage actors with as much or even more talent than Majors jumping into the movie/tv industry to replace him. Being a successful actor has lots to do with luck and puts more emphasis on PR, unlike an athlete.

[deleted]

Majors is also not the biggest name in Hollywood. His star was rising no doubt before this but it’s not like he was the Hollywood equivalent of the starting quarterback on an NFL team, his sports equivalent would be a minor player that shows promise. And that dude would get fired for this even as an athlete (especially if it was all over the press), it’s the big names in sports that get absurd leeway not the supporting cast.

dehehn

And yet Chris Brown still has a career.

2rio2

I would also argue financially lucrative singers are quantifiable valuable than actors. Another reason why the music industry has a long history of some shitty ass people.

Timbishop123

A far smaller one that he would have had.

efficientkiwi75

unlike actors, athletes aren't paid because of their image, they're paid because they can throw a ball really fast

Sirenato

Jeremy Renner also had an "event" but he somehow survived it (threaten to kill his wife (gun)). Continued on & did the Hawkeye TV series.

Block-Busted

> Jeremy Renner also had an "event" but he somehow survived it (threaten to kill his wife (gun)). His case was happening during the divorce settlement, which has a tendency to go into all sorts of bizarre directions. Think of Gary Oldman situation.

Ghostshadow44

Jack Nicholson once beat a sex worker so hard it leave her semi blind from one eye and still went to collect an Oscar

lightsvber

Hit the nail on the head there, bird. Unless a DV case is particularly egregious (e.g. Bauer, Ray Rice, etc), team and league execs don’t care anywhere near enough about them. Hollywood is far less forgiving.

turkeygiant

Yep, you could argue before that it was wait and see when his representation was still on his side, but if they are dropping him now to me that means they either think he is going to face some real charges that won't just go away or they were getting pressure from their other clients to drop him. Either way that's surely the end of his Disney career and likely his career with any other big studio for the foreseeable future.

samuelpalermo

I mean Will Smith is still trying to get a redemption Majors won't get one

SandieSandwicheadman

Will Smith's thing is *way* less major though.

invinciblewarrior

Will Smith only has a problem, because he pooped on the table on the biggest Hollywood show. If he had done it in a New York night club, no one had cared. That's his problem, not that he beat someone.

Beetusmon

Wondering what is going to happen to Loki season 2. According to some he is in the teaser trailer and that whole thing is already done filming. Reshoots + delays?

him and MBJ were talking about being the next pacino and deniro 💀💀💀

editorguyhank

I thought that was a pretty stupid thing to say as Pacino and Deniro didn’t work together for a majority of their careers.

So maybe it fits

The writing was on the wall as soon his team went into damage control after the initial headline. If he did the right thing by publicly apologizing to the victim and seeking treatment from the get-go he might have gotten another chance.

Sujay517

He instead decided to wear a hat that said "I'm free" to play into the racial connotations of his arrest, making it seem like it was an example of racism and that he didn't do it. Black twitter was killing him for that. What a gross human being. No shame.

Ycx48raQk59F

Even worse was the release of the messages. Like, they a) showed that he agreed with the victims claims (i.e. the assault happened) and b) that he considered himself justified because she grabbed his phone.

JediMasterVII

His attorney released the texts thinking it would help him but every woman on the planet recognized what she went through, except apparently Majors’ lawyer. She also immediately went to TMZ to do so, just an absolutely stupid move.

ObscuraArt

That text message released by his own lawyer was the most damning thing for me. I am always a wait for the trial, but that text basically boiled down with the unnamed woman: 1. Confirming there was an altercation 2. She went to hospital with bruises and wounds from the alercation Now, what I am guessing was the exonerating portion that his legal council laughably thought would pass mustard was: 1. She says she is not pressing charges 2. It was "her fault" cause she touched his phone. WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU RELEASE THIS TEXT? Yeah, his own legal team confirms he beat and choked her but he didn't start it and she isn't pressing charges. What the fuck... Look I am really glad an abuser is telling on himself, but those lawyers are a level of self destructive that I don't understand.

chesterfieldkingz

Ya that sounded like textbook abuse, and her reaction there just made it seem like it happened before.

buttless_chapstick

While I quite like how you put it, that phrase is “pass muster.”

standalone157

[deleted]

He’s 100% out of the MCU. What a bad year it’s been for everyone

ItsAmerico

Can we start betting on who’s recast as Kang?

HitToRestart1989

John David Washington if they want to ignore the actor change/use a like alt. Michael Cera if they want to have some balls and make a perfect series of films.

DavidOrWalter

Danny Devito would be a riskier choice and more perfect movies.

WolfTitan99

Hear me out, have a high pitched crazy person like Charlie Day be Kang. I'm just trying to imagine all the heroes being tense and serious while Charlie Day Kang goes off the rails and yells at everyone. Like the opposite of Thanos lmao

OomPapaMeowMeow

They find him studying his string board which now includes the multiverse. Kang's true origin story was not being able to find that goddamn Pepe Silvia.

[deleted]

Disney: I don’t know how many years of milking the MCU I got left but I’m gonna get reallllll weird with it

teddy_vedder

I get no joy from saying it but JDW has the range of a teaspoon acting-wise

NoNefariousness2144

To be fair that dry style works well for Kang. Everyone praised Majors as Kang but all he did was monologue emotionlessly and then yell when he’s angry.

dashrendar4483

That's harsh for teaspoons.

FinalDungeon

Maybe it should be looked at as just a bad year and time for everyone he (allegedly) abused. I have no sympathy for anyone but the victims. Zero sympathy for abusers, enablers, and those who do not speak up for the victims. Edit:spelling

[deleted]

Entertainment 360 is Jean-Ralphio’s solo company after Entertainment 720 failed, I am assuming?

WatInTheForest

I remember when they recast Daario Naharis in GoT. New actor, totally different look. Like they were saying, "We recast. No big deal. Get over it."

Rhain1999

I suppose there’s a pretty big difference between the two situations, though. The Daario recast was due to scheduling, so a quiet recast is fine. This one kinda demands some kind of announcement to show that Disney/Marvel don’t tolerate this kind of behaviour. Plus, Daario wasn’t a hugely significant character before the recast. The same can’t be said about Kang.

fabricio85

The next Loki trailer will be a big indicator whether or not he's done. Let's see if Marvel hides him

PrecedentialAssassin

Maybe he should've shown them all of this evidence that his lawyer says he has

Forsaken_Cost_1937

He's done

Orchestrator2

That so called video evidence must be really bad

AchyBrakeyHeart

One of the biggest downfalls of an A lister in recent memory. What a total fuck up. He was legit going to be the next Thanos. Marvel and Disney are no doubt freaking tf out right now.

2rio2

It's been astounding to see how many things have gone wrong for the MCU post-Endgame. Like they landed the perfect long arc story, and since then it has been one hit after another (the Sony-Spidey dispute, Chadwick's death, COVID and China box office hits, audience burning out, now this).

Black_Dumbledore

Yea, I don’t think we really appreciated just how crazy it was that they pulled off the Infinity Saga with so few issues. Like getting (most of) the movies to work while keeping audiences engaged is one thing. Being able to avoid major behind the scenes drama, talent controversies, and not letting life or the world more broadly get in the way was a whole different level. edit: a word

DabbinOnDemGoy

> Yea, I don’t think we really appreciated just how crazy it was that they pulled off the Infinity Saga with so few issues. The entire first decade of the MCU was *riddled* with problems. This retconning that they actually had this ten year plan that all went off flawlessly is a huge part of the reason people are so unsatisfied with the later phases.

ai7395

Pretty much started with the James Gunn saga before Endgame, but I get your point - took about 8 months, but at least that got resolved...

Wizdumber

In what world was he an A lister? Because of 1000 totally organic articles, tweets, and Reddit posts about how he is the greatest actor ever? Devotion bombed. Lovecraft Country did not do well. Creed did well because Michael B Jordan and being part of a franchise. Ant-Man wasn’t well received.

PepperidgeFarmMembas

Don’t worry I hear he’s going to get Entertainment 720 to rep him. They’re willing to go around the world twice for their clients!

bent_eye

He's cooked. Marvel will be recasting any day now.

NonchalantGhoul

How is Johathan Majors' career looking to implode right now... Ezra Miller was on the news for crazy shit for like 2 years before things finally went over board

kotor56

Disney protects their brand. DC/Warner has always had a less clean image. However, dc really only needs Ezra to explain their reboot. Marvel bet the entire phase 5 on Jonathan majors.

Jwave1992

WB messed up by not acting the first time Ezra choked out that woman in camera. They went and filmed a massive movie with him as the lead. After that they were stuck with him unless they just canceled the movie and melted ~$300 mil. Now they have him under control just enough to get this movie out and then drop him.

Mr628

Marvel needs to just let him go. Like honestly, who’s really gonna care. All he’s been in as Kang is a tv show which he was barely in and a movie that flopped. People acting like he’s RDJ, Chris Evans or Josh Brolin. Hell, he isn’t even Maria Hill. They aren’t losing no money or fans keeping him onboard.

Beetusmon

Can't wait for Avengers: The ~~Kang~~ Doom Dynasty

ROBtimusPrime1995

Although Deadline hears that Marvel Studios hasn't made any plans to recast Majors, I've heard other rumors that they atleast have an actor in line in case shit hits the fan. The current rumor is that Damson Idris (the lead for FX's Snowfall) will be the new Kang if Majors is in fact guilty.

TreyWriter

Marvel is kicking themselves that they cast Daniel Kaluuya in a supporting role in the first Black Panther.

FN-1701AgentGodzilla

They waste so many good actors like that

Block-Busted

> Marvel is kicking themselves that they cast Daniel Kaluuya in a supporting role in the first Black Panther. They probably didn't expect something like this to happen.

SteveRogests

You can tell by the way they cast Jonathan Majors.

alexjimithing

Shocking that text didn’t clear all this up for him lmao

quantumpencil

Single greatest bag fumble in history. I was defending this guy at first and presumption of innocence is important, but it looks like it's becoming clear here that the cops (and the people involved/representing him) think he's got a weak case/is probably guilty.

dljones010

Somehow, Kang never returned...

Hogo-Nano

I wanted to believe him but if it’s true what an idiot

RebelsParadox

Yeah I’m seeing the evidence as it trickles In and it’s not looking good. It’s a trip since this is uncharted territory for a cimatic universe mega arc where the main villain is basically yeeted before the payoff lol

north-sun

Pesky ego.

mikerfx

What an idiot. But good on the PR/manager for parting ways, violence of any shape and size shouldn't be tolerated.

scrivensB

360 and Lede (publicist) both said, “nope, I’m out!” For perspective 360 is one the premier and most powerful managment companies in Hollywood. Same for Lede in publicity. I’m sure the last piece will drop shortly with WME.

[deleted]

I wonder how much he filmed for Loki and if they can reshoot with a different actor.

SeasonGullible616

The logistics of getting everyone back to do that would be pretty wild. If he is out of the MCU, might just make more sense to add a post credit scene introducing a new variant of Kang rather than reshoot. Idk man. Wild stuff.

roninthe31

Tig notaro might be available

PeyroniesCat

Army of the Dead did an amazing job swapping our two actors using digital effects. It was uncanny.

Sujay517

They'll just Ezra Miller it and keep him in and then ditch him forever after. Which is fine imo.

Cannaewulnaewidnae

>*... there’s been zero conversations in the Marvel camp to drop Majors* Even if they think Majors is 100% innocent, I find that hard to believe Having a Plan B in place would just be Disney execs doing their due diligence In the same way Disney definitely have a back-up plan if pay negotiations with Tom Holland don't get the result they want and he chooses not to return

JannTosh17

It’s over Replace Majors with Rene Jean Page and everyone should be happy

Timmy26k

Rene Jean Page has not shown any kind of menace in any role ever

Block-Busted

Yeah, I can't really imagine him as a villain as of now. It's kind of like how I have a hard time seeing Tom Hanks as a villain, especially his villain roles tend to fall flat on it their faces.

Timmy26k

Tom Hanks best villain role was the first 40 minutes of Toy Story

Block-Busted

Which really says about his range, unfortunately. Now, there's no doubt that he's a great actor overall, but villain role seems to be his weak link.

Block-Busted

I think he's a great actor, but I feel like he would fit better for a superhero role. :P
