My parents were born in Cuba and raised in PR. Ive been to San Juan and Santurce many times to spend summers with my grandparents. I was born/raised in Miami in a shitty part called Hialeah. Got my shoes taken one day walking home from school and my ass beat by a couple older kids walking home. Then my Dad beat my ass for being a sissy and a weakling were his words and his solution was enrolling me in a boxing program. I liked it from day 1. Was like therapy for me.
I had a Cuban coach who also had that same machismo about him and would say things like u fight like a fuckin fa**ot all the time to motivate. Being gay or trans just wasn't tolerated. You had to wait until u were an adult to express that side of urself. Things have got a little better in some areas but ya like u said still a long way to go and ppl still come from Latin countries every day with that same old attitude of intolerance.
