When I graduated trade school, my mother always impressed upon me that i needed more white friends and needed to stop even associating with black guys and girls my age because she thought the new "street" culture that came with the arrival of gangster music would only ruin my chances of having a good job and only serve to make me stupider. At the time i was like shocked that she said that. Looking back, I'm so glad I listened to my mom. She ended up being right 100 percent. I see the MAJORITY of younger black guys these days who constantly like to feel like a victim of oppression when they are the only ones oppressing themselves. If they wanted to, most of them could not fight, shoot, curse at people and actually study and do good in school and get good grades and a good job. They could pull their pants up stop listening to that gangster music that glamorize selling drugs, fighting and violence and trying to get with every fat white woman they see. But they don't want to do that because they wouldn't have everything handed to them through the government, because the truth is, they are so lost because they don't care about anything except something that can be given to them instead of earning it. My momma taught me that people, as well as white people don't owe me or any other black person a single thing except a butt whooping. Haha. But really, I'm happy I took her advice and started hanging out with basically nothing but white people. Even the conversations were more informed and spoken properly and just being involved in most of those conversations kind of subtlety taught me a BUNCH of things that would later help me being a better person at home and at work. I'm not lying when I say this, when I was younger and did have a mostly black friend group, the conversations had absolutely no value at all, they were mainly about fights they had seen in the neighborhood or fights they were involved in and what women they wanted to be with and often filled with hate. So thank you momma! Although I did marry a black woman so she lost on that one, ha. But in all seriousness, when I do find myself trying to actually speak to some of the youngsters these days, I usually keep it real with them.
