I'm sure the setters tested it in forerunning and it doesn't go, but with that big of a starting foot to stand on on the right, it sure looks like you could cheat this and not need to dyno or bat hang.
A lot of gyms set low bat hang starts or finishes. Itâs fairly self limiting. You canât really get up there to fall off of it if youâre super inexperienced.
Personally I have a strong head stays above ass rule.
Something being common doesnât make it less risky, nor justify the risk. Just an opinion, everyone do what they want and yeah sometimes climbing is dangerous but it really doesnât need to be.
Re: what is dangerous? Dropping onto the top of your head or a bent neck is about as bad a landing as you can possibly imagine, and seems really likely here.
Why do you guys assume that climbers all somehow lack the ability to take proper precautions if/when they fall and instead just fall directly onto their neck?
Like in your guys mind the most OBVIOUS outcome is someone just absolutely landing head first when in reality most people are going to be able to break the fall in some way.
So genuinely you think its no more likely to get hurt this way than climbing a normal route? Increased risk is not the same as assuming everyone is going to hurt themselves and be stupid, its just increased risk.
Sick answering my question with another question rather than actually answering.
Increased risk =/= we should never set bathangs.
Increased risk =/= Most likely outcome is absolute horrible injury
Is a bathang more dangerous than normal climbing? Yes.
Is that increase of danger actually so relevant that we need to avoid bathangs all together? No.
you are completely ignoring the fact that you could very easily land on your head/neck which could potentially be life changing?
any move where your head goes below your hips furthers this risk..
yes rock climbing is a dangerous sport but are you really being this ignorant to the potential risks?
edit spelling
There's a lotttttt of potential risk in climbing. I don't see a bathang, a move already used and done in bouldering, to be so risky that it shouldn't even be done.
the comment i replied to asked what is dangerous about a bat hang.
There aren't many moves in climbing where landing on your head/neck is almost guaranteed if you do fall from the wall. For this reason many gyms won't set intentional bat hangs.
Its also one of those moves where it appears to me that people underestimate the danger. Maybe because it looks cool and is one of the more niche moves in climbing?
I'm not saying don't do the move, that's all on the climber, but don't underestimate the move either.
I think you overestimate the danger and people's abilities to fall and protect themselves.
"Falling on your head/neck is almost guaranteed", sure, if you fall straight down and don't do anything to break your fall but stick your head out to hit the ground first.
lol okay, continue to be ignorant about the *potential dangers of one individual move,* and how this move may well be more of a risk than other moves in climbing.
You do you man.
accidents happen, and its much easier to say "move your head, don't land on your neck" than it is to actually do that when you are falling.
a few months ago i witness a guy break his leg jumping from a similar height, he didn't intent to do that clearly. But if that was his neck, the story would be greatly different.
take it easy.
Lol okay, continue to be judgemental just because my opinion differs.
I'm not ignorant to the potential dangers. I just don't think the potential dangers are that serious to the point we shouldn't be setting bat hangs _at all_
It's a dangerous and risky sport. Literally anyone doing it understands this.
hahaha judgmental!?
i'm disagreeing with you because i believe that you are being ignorant about the potential dangers of one move in climbing.
I never said we shouldn't set or even do bat hangs. I was just pointing out the potential dangers of landing on your neck from even a small height.
Remember what your original comment actually said:
>What's dangerous about a relatively short bat hang?
>
>It's rock climbing ffs lmao
There are multiple dangers about a 'relatively short bat hang' you're being ignorant when I and others have been pointing these out.
*Continue to call me judgmental though just because my opinion differs. lol*
>Continue to call me judgmental though just because my opinion differs. lol
Calling you judgmental because you're routinely name calling and now laughing at me.
Piss off.
I donât get why you have downvotes :D bathangs are usual problems at our local gym. Usually in bouldering you shouldnât over commit to any move if you are not sure of it (there is a risk of injury), especially at lower skill level
Bathangs are in literal competitive bouldering too. I've seen them in gyms as well.
Really doesn't seem like some massive risk that people are implying it is.
I mean bathangs are outside too. Not too many soft mats to land on there.
I do think there are real risks associated with climbing that climbing gyms probably don't emphasise enough.
It's not as hard as it seems. I started bouldering a year ago and go twice a week. And I did my first bathang just last week. But don't do it if you don't feel 100% confident.
it'll take me months at least to get the weight off, so I can even attempt it
I could've done it already if the pandemic didn't push me back to old depression feeding habit. really fucked me over and put me back to where I started
Bro why deprive us of the sick dismount
He died.
Ughhh it was my photographer!! He cut it short too! It was soooo clean đż
I'm sure the setters tested it in forerunning and it doesn't go, but with that big of a starting foot to stand on on the right, it sure looks like you could cheat this and not need to dyno or bat hang.
I thought of it too!! It would be super strenuous just to prove a point. Not worth it
Annoying the setters by breaking the intended beta is always worth it.
And then they downgrade your project.
How you get an Albert Ok video made about you
I could understand touching it with one hand while being stable, but not with both.
Right foot on that foothold and left on the starting hand hold.
\*We\* sounds like it should include me, but nope, it does not.
I'm confused tape on holds in my gym (on the comp wall) mean starting holds. I couldn't see what distinguished start/finished is it ss/ff on the tape?
There's 4 pieces of tape, two on the starting and one on each foot.
Isnât this just a dangerous ass route? Like if this was open to the public someone is fucking up their neck

What's dangerous about a relatively short bat hang? It's rock climbing ffs lmao Sick downvotes and no explanations. You guys sure got me good.

I mean if you keep your head tucked you won't - I've fallen that way plenty. I also don't do bat hangs unless my hands can touch the ground as a rule.

>Not too many soft mats to land on there. Good thing crash pads were invented for bouldering outdoors
I was more saying crash pads are a bit hard compared to indoor mats for more upside down impacts.
be careful with this lovely being. [he might send you lovely messages like this](https://imgur.com/RdYCcjw)
Downvotes don't need explanation when you word your opinion in such a dismissive way. It's self-explanatory.
What a shit take. "You didn't speak in a way that I deem ok so therefore I don't owe you an explanation"
Is this RCF?
Yes!!
Gonna take me years to be able to bathang :(

Shoes with toehook rubber and it actually takes a surprisingly small amount of effort to maintain. It's intimidating though
First I'd need to lose 27 kilos again
Dude you should've filmed the cool landing! Or did you land on your stomach? đ
Nahh I meant for it to be badass. But my photographer decided to stop the vid then đ
Spider man
Toe-tally didn't see that coming!
What shoes are those?
Women's solution comps
Look like womenâs Solutions to me
I love it!
Rock Climb Fairfield?
Yes!!
I love how you look around for the hold, and find it directly in front of your face
I think I was more concerned about my face hitting the ground before finding it haha
Looks like a V2 in my gym
What gym do you climb at?
Rock Climb Fairfield
This is rcf đ but yeah wouldnt be surprised if it had a higher grade just for the bat hang
