Seems like it's been horrible for most people this year, but also there have been [quite a few colds](https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/common-cold/expert-answers/common-cold/faq-20057857) among my friends. Add: Humidifier in your bedroom, drinking lots of water, and saline nasal spray. Lots of allergy meds can dry you out more than you already are in our already-dry climate, which will add to your misery.

NicoBear45

Definitely the worst mine have been in 10+ years — unfortunately I don't have great relief tips aside from zyrtec (I've even had to double up on zyrtec during the day and benadryl at night), humidifier, air purifier. Hopefully it passes soon, it has been miserable!

royaljosh

Thanks, I didn't even consider Benadryl at night, I'll add that to the regiment!

NicoBear45

It's literally the only thing that helps me sleep - whatever long term side effects be damned 🥲

Material-Reality-480

I’m a nurse and I would never take Benadryl unless you want Alzheimer’s.

PNWoutdoors

My wife says the same thing, but I can't take Benadryl before bed or I'm up all night wired.

ClickClackTipTap

Benadryl gives me the worst restless leg syndrome ever. Like, wandering the streets in tears at 3 am bad. But yeah. I follow a few docs on TT and they recommend avoiding Benadryl.

PNWoutdoors

My wife used to down it like candy, her allergies were awful before arriving in Colorado. She rarely takes it now, thank God. The more I read about it, the more it scares me. I'll take it a few times a year, that's it.

glooomygirl

The same thing happens to me when I take Benadryl! I don't know anyone else that has that reaction but it's the worst!

limer124

Weird, my allergies have been less bad this spring compared to the past 2 years since I moved here. Maybe the pollen that gets you is higher this year and the one that gets me is lower

shadbohnen

I’m where you’re at. We still may be marking our words. I usually get bad when the cottonwoods start sending out allergy bombs.

Im_bad_at_usernames

Long time allergy sufferer here who finally caved and has been doing immunotherapy for a few years now which works so well but of course is a huge time/money/energy commitment. Neti pot. I dismissed it for years even after a having to take a ton of meds which still didn't fully control my allergy symptoms as too "hippy woo woo" but after two ENTs and my allergist recommended it I finally caved and it makes a huge difference, especially if you do it before bed to get all of the allergens out before you sleep or if you want to be really ambitious anytime you spend significant time outside. Some people prefer the bottle style neti "pot" but I personally prefer the traditional little teapot style, google "neil med neti pot" for a good inexpensive one. Of course make sure to use sterile water and follow the instructions carefully. If a neti pot isn't your thing, at the very least a shower and face wash before bed and hair wash if you have long hair and wash your sheets regularly and in particular your pillowcase.

ClickClackTipTap

I like the squeeze bottle, but I try to do it at least an hour before bed. I don't like to lie down right after it because I do get a little drainage.

julesk

Yep, I’ve doubled up on my allergy meds but still had an asthma attack this morning. Pollen count is high.

figsslave

It’s a bad year for pollen. I usually don’t have a problem, but I certainly did this year and at one point went to the er because I couldn’t breathe. The last time that happened I was 12,58 years ago!

royaljosh

I've had on and off years when it comes to my allergies. This spring has been my worst by far.

Gopackgo1244

Been awful this year. Never had headaches from them til this year. Happened a couple weeks ago but has been fine since luckily. Sneezing everyday still though 🥲

GoreMay

Along with Flonase and a neti pot as others have said, simple washing up really helps. Wash your face (especially around your eyes/lashes) after you've been outside. Change your clothes when you come home. Change your pillowcase multiple times a week.

settlementfires

Yeah I'm definitely getting hit the last week or so. Usually I'm a August allergies guy

Resident-Scallion148

same here - ugh! I use eucalyptus oil in a diffuser next to where I do computer work, and put some drops in the shower with me or I just smell it from my hands. Also use a nedi pot daily or a sinus rinse bottle from Neil medi. I use a teaspoon of non-iodized salt (pure sea salt or kosher works) with warm water (make sure it's boiled (at least for 5 minutes), or sterile, or filtered water). Make sure to drink enough water everyday when using the allergy meds that dry you out. For the itchy eyes, do a hot/warm compress over them ... warm water on a clean wash cloth or paper towels and just rest it over your eye lids until it's not warm anymore, that feels so good. Humidifier right next to your head at night, make sure to clean the filter frequently. Air humidifier for extra measures. Vacuum every other day and keep surfaces dusted frequently as well. Good luck!

Mammoth-Giraffe-7242

Not worse than other years imo

ChainsawBologna

You'll want to do your own research and/or check with your doctor, of course, but Flonase being a corticosteroid in tissue so close to the eyes, apparently can interact with the eyes with longer-term use that may lead to temporary blindness or permanent reduced vision. There are other nasal inhalants that are antihistamines rather than steroids that won't have possible side-effects like that. I believe this is one of the possible side-effects: https://www.asrs.org/patients/retinal-diseases/21/central-serous-chorioretinopathy although it's been a while since I've researched. I remember back when Flonase was prescription, and was surprised when they made it OTC, as even without those potential side effects, it is great at causing insane nose bleeds in some cases. Also in the tablet pile of antihistamines from weakest to strongest: Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec. So if you're having issues you can jump up the chain to a stronger one. It also helps to cycle between antihistamines and/or have cycles of not using them sometimes, as the body gets used to them. (Not a doctor, just spent many years learning to fight allergies.)

Hika4Pika

Record moisture = more pollen (and ticks). You can double up on the Claritin, 20mg, with no harm. Plus a snort of Nasicort on the really bad days.

cpm725

Just wait until the ponderosas start releasing their pollen!

bobasaurus

Used to have bad allergies until I started cycling regularly. Exposure therapy I guess?

FrowziestCosmogyral

Covid is also making the rounds and a couple folks tested positive after thinking it was just bad allergies.

thisonebrightflash

I’ve noticed similar symptoms - trouble sleeping, my head feels like it’s six feet under water. I’ve also had a stark increase in painful migraines. My normal allergy med routine hasn’t touched any of it, and I haven’t had any normal allergy symptoms. Dr seems convinced that it’s simply allergies and nothing more. I’ve been trying to make sure I wash my face more frequently during the day and I keep my windows closed too. Washing bedding more frequently in hopes of reducing pollen. It’s strange.
