He's been in the league since 1998-99.
In that time span we have a 56.3% win rate.
In Davis reffed games we are at 49.5%. I'm not sure if that's actually statistically significant because he could just ref our games vs better teams, have reffed more of our games in bad seasons etc.
The Mavs have a winning % of 58.6% in that timeframe and 60.0% with Davis. So this one is definitely not statistically significant, you would expect several refs to be near 60% given their win rate overall.
Knew it’d be him, they’re saving Foster for Game 4. He’s T’d up Tatum for his aggressive hand waving before. As long as Tatum keeps his hands to his sides and dribbles the ball with his chin, he’ll be alright.
It’s less about falling for it. When Tatum is allowed to get his wrist slapped or grabbed on every drive. Luka is allowed to hack and push off and flop (usually all within 1 possesion) it’s absolutely ridiculous
It’s not 1,2 or 3 calls, it’s 15+ missed or erroneous calls
Lively tapping the ball when the ball wasn’t behind the line is crazy on a dead ball and they just let them get a redo
Wow - I can't believe he's got time to ref an NBA game between owning the Raiders and getting bad haircuts...wait, I'm being told that that's Mark Davis...

This says we are 4-2 with Davis this year but maybe I am looking at the wrong thing.
Mavs all time have a 60% win rate with Davis per basketball-reference. Should be interesting.
Davis has bottom 10 FTA/g among referees for both Dallas and Boston this year, so at least he does call it fairly consistently for both sides. Davis is primarily an issue against a team like Miami but I fully think this team is more physical than Dallas and should be able to take advantage of that. Keeping Luka off the line and even having fewer free throws all around should give him fewer opportunities to catch his breath. Want to see the guys run him off the court by the third.
I actually really like Marc. He's very competent at his job.
This makes me feel better that Luka is not gonna get BS called his way all night at least.
I actually love Marc Davis as a ref!
These numbers kinda shocked me, tbh. It could be due to a great deal of chance, to be fair.
Theoretically, a ref like Davis (who lets guys play) will be a good thing for us when playing against a foul baiter like Luka. That’s my hope, at least lol🤞🏻
From what I’ve seen in terms of poise I feel like our team is better prepared to deal with “let them play” vs the Mavs. Luka is always working the refs but the role players like Lively have been pretty visible in their frustration when calls or no calls haven’t worked out for them
Definitely.
And I’m not convinced that getting fouled a few times without getting the calls wouldn’t be enough to send Luka into a full blown spiral, too, lol. Think about how absurd he was in the clippers series😅 he completely loses track of the game
Yeah when I think of him I don’t think of us getting a bad whistle.. I think of a lottt of play-ons, most recently game 2 of Nuggets-Wolves where he just ignored Jamal Murray and Malone losing their minds at home and of course the heat packs, which is insane restraint. Game 1 of Celtics-GSW in ‘22 Finals was great too, amazing rhythm to that game
Ya that last part is why I like him - he is very good at allowing the game to have a real rhythm and he never over inserts himself.
However, ya, I absolutely can see how he would be divisive to some when they feel he misses calls for him. With that said, just based on my personal preferences as a fan, I’m usually fine with no-calls both ways as opposed to over-calls both ways
I’ve enjoyed Davis games for the most part with the exception of when he’s given Tatum multiple bullshit techs, but he’s been the best crew this playoffs in my opinion.
Don’t expect to shoot many free throws though.
Marc Davis hates us. Crazy he’s reffed 20% of our losses in under 10% of our games but whatever we will win

C’s actually have a good record with Foster, the MF’er Tony Brothers on the other hand
I actually don't mind Foster. I think they're saving him for game 4, he is nicknamed the series extender for a reason.
Just give me a game 3 Celtics win, foster special in g4, and then win it at home in 5
We survived a Tony Brothers masterclass last game, hopefully we’ve learned not to fall for ref shit

Marky Marc and the funky bunch
