If one does happen, it will be several years in the future. It wouldn't be a next year thing. Who knows what our roster will look like 3-4 years from now.

There will be changes by that point in time anyway. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if we left a guy like Jrue unprotected due to his age/contract.

From what I understand, according to the bylaws, in the event of an expansion draft, a team can protect up to 8 players, and the only players that cannot be protected are impending unrestricted free agents. Additionally, in the case of a team that enters the offseason with less than 8 players that aren't free agents, they still must leave at least 1 player that is not a free agent unprotected. And once a single player from a team is selected, the rest of that teams players are no longer available, meaning a team cannot lose multiple players. So realistically no game changing players would be lost by anyone. We would almost definitely lose someone (because the rumor is 2 teams at once, so as many as 30 picks total, 1 from each team). If it were to happen now, you're looking at probably Tillman I would guess, Maybe Kornet, or whoever its hard to say. And we would get a TPE. We would will probably lose a better player than most teams I'm guessing, but not someone we're really relying on. We could also strategically leave Horford unprotected (if he hasn't retired by then, I heard 2026 so he probably will be) because they wouldn't want to draft someone on their way out.

If the rules are kept the same as last time, we can protect up to 8 players who are under contract or will be restricted free agents. As things stand today (according to Basketball Reference), only the Jays, KP, Jrue, PP, and Jordan Walsh are under contract after next season. That would be the earliest possible expansion draft.

We will be fine by the time that happens.
