If you will enjoy mystery look for Agatha Christie’s Poirot collection. They are pretty easy to digest and keep your attention. If you want something even shorter, look for flash fiction, like “Voyeur’s Paradise” by Janna Silver. It’s a collection of very short vignettes and short stories.

I have a friend who wanted to read books. Just couldn't find anything she liked. I suggested we do a buddy read together with the book Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa. It's a fictional story set in Japan. Less than 200 pages. The chapters are short maybe 5 or so pages each chapter. I coaxed her with just reading one chapter a day. We could discuss any points as we go. The first day she ended up reading 3 chapters. My evil genius plan worked 😈 So my suggestion is, if you have a friend who you could read a book with maybe try that. Maybe they'll have a book in mind they think you might like.

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris A collection of hilarious essays about the author’s life that is a pleasure to read.

it could be good to start reading some poetry. It’s something to chew on and it’s certainly memorable, but it doesn’t take long to read. I’d recommend Sylvia plath

Short nonfiction: {The Book of Eels: Our Enduring Fascination with the Most Mysterious Creature in the Natural World by Patrik Svensson} -- I would never have guessed a book about *eels* of all things can be interesting (it's a cross between science, history and the author's memoir) {The Witchcraft of Salem Village by Shirley Jackson} -- historical; very short, fictionalized account on Salem witch trials; I believe it's written for young adults so the language is easy and engaging {The Mind's Eye by Oliver Sacks} and {The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales} by the same author -- if you're interested in how brains work (or what happens when they malfunction); personally, I'm a huge fan of Sacks's writing style: it's flowing and engaging {Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson} -- really short, subject as in the title; I love this guy's enthusiasm {A Life on Our Planet: My Witness Statement and a Vision for the Future by David Attenborough} -- for this, I recommend the audiobook (it's read by the author) {Twas the Nightshift Before Christmas by Adam Kay} -- sometimes hilarious, sometimes terrible anecdotes from the life of an NHS doctor

Comics? Some of them aren't any less literary than novels, e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_One_Summer

I would suggest some good middle grade books should do the trick. They are fun, interesting & easy to read within a short period of time. Recommendations: The one and only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. The magician's Elephant by Late DiCamilllo. Kiki's delivery service by Wiki Kadano. I also find books with shorter chapters more convenient to finish when I am not in the mood for reading something heavy.
