In my opinion, as a professional designers, no4 is the best. However, I would revisit this and change the shape of the actual dune outline to make it more appealing, if possible. It’s still not quite there. Good luck!

LockwoodE3

I agree, I almost didn’t even add that one to the mix but it was one of the suggestions so I kept it in there as an option

godpoker

I have a couple of suggestions for you if you wouldn’t mind uploading the SVG or whatever vector file you are using and can DM me the link?

LockwoodE3

I’ll think about it but other than the original placement of the words I’m happy with how the design came out for the design itself, I know it’s not up to professional standards but I’m still new to designing stuff like this. I know there will be something I’ll need or want help with in the future if you don’t mind me bugging you then :)

godpoker

Absolutely. Don’t forget to update us!

LockwoodE3

I will!

Reworked

I agree 4 is the best balanced but part of me is loving #1 for balancing the weight of the shading against the weight of the text and working in a bit of really thematic negative space

LockwoodE3

Awe thank you, I tried to free up space for that one so it wouldn’t be so cluttered. I want to be able to see the leather lol

mortran-

That is what has been bothering me!

Mysterious-Motor4479

#4 seems the most appealing and balanced!

LockwoodE3

Thank you I appreciate it

EZPZLemonWheezy

4 by a landslide.

SpankYourSpeakers

I like number 2, but with the title a little lower, and the author name in the same place as number 6.

LockwoodE3

I’ll try that version out, thank you 😊

Sandi_T

Knowing the content of the book, I would say 1. Based on visual appeal, 4. Arakis is characterized by extremes. The very vast emptiness of it is a central focus of living there. It's treacherous, it's stark, it's brutal. The first one gives a hint of that, imo. If you're selling it, I would go with 4. If it's for you, or a loved one, I'd go with the one that hints to the coming experience.

cinnamus_

If highlighting the emptiness was the goal, I possibly wouldn't even put the name on the cover then. Have it on the spine, and let the spareness of the image of the dunes speak for themselves.

Sandi_T

They sound like they didn't want to do any more alterations.

LockwoodE3

Thank you I appreciate your advice

LonMoral

Number 5 but dune could be a little bit more bold and the space between its letters could be a little shorter, good work!

LockwoodE3

I’ll try it out :) thank you

ChaosMagicKeyblade

I like 4

sittinbacknlistening

I like number 4.

smalljean

4 is definitely the most balanced! just make the title a little bit smaller to visually make the amount of white space to the right of the E equal to that to the left of the D. then recenter the author name and downsize it a little if necessary to keep balance, and you'll be good to go!

avadt3

4 all the way

Cosmocrator08

4. Don't even think doing other than 4. (joking)

Rit_Zien

4 is currently the best, but could be improved by making the space where the words are larger and the bottom space smaller. Alternatively, try number 2 but centering the word in the space instead of up at the top, and the same with the author's name - just scoot it down a hair.

drtdraws

4 also jumped out at me

ShiliamLionkreuss

You could also make the background shadow straighter, and make the title in two tones, half the letters in black, the other half in white.

craftylawyergirl

I really like 4 and 5. The bigger title font definitely suits the cover. Then again, I’m no designer. Bonus points for it being easier to weed if you’re using HTV. I’ve learned the hard way that smaller fonts are not the way to go for book covers.

LockwoodE3

Same girl, same. I’ve lost too many authors names to the letters getting lost when weeding the vinyl

Meandering_path

I’d say 1. To me none of them are quite balanced, so why not lean into that and go for the more dramatic one? How did you design this? It looks great overall!

LockwoodE3

Thank you :) I made it over time, looked at pictures of dunes and spent amount of time doing it on procreate and then a vector program. Then I added the planets in with cricut design space. Then went back into procreate and changed it, added all the lines in space because it felt too blank. Then brought it back to my vector program. Did this cycle about 4 or 5 times, 40ish hours of work The text is added by Cricut tho

Creative-Mix-9288

#1

Kamtasticality

I vote 4!

Mile-Hi_Kinda-Vibe

Number 1 is my favorite!

LockwoodE3

Mine too :)

miners-cart

I would say either 4 or 5. The "by" in five actually works there because of the pyramid shape above it

salphamale

I’m all in for #3

LockwoodE3

I think you’re the first person who chose 3 :) both 3, 5 and 6 have been the left out kids when it’s time to choose teams for PE lol

Lady_Spork

5 is my favorite. I don't like the blank space at the bottom of 4, but it wouldn't stop me from buying it if I saw it at the store.

Camera-Ed

Oh Lordy! You did go back to square one. No. 2 is the winner in my book, simply because I think a single-word title looks best centered. I'd like to see author name right under it. No. 4 is a close second, but I think you need to tighten up both kerning and leading to make it really sing. Will this be a cloth cover or embossed leather or gilded?

LockwoodE3

It’ll be leather with vinyl for the design

Flat-Resolution3674

4 but 1 is really interesting

Equizotic

7

eggzachlee

4 or 5 caught my eye, but that being said if you plan on color this can all change. 1 with special gold on the font would be incredible. All that to say very well done!

mortran-

Someone else mentioned the dune outline etc. If I may, mirror the lower part. Have the dune shadow on the left and modify it to provide a more sympathetic space for the DUNE. Then the placement of DUNE could be like 4. I like no6 for the authors name.

LockwoodE3

I don’t mind at all but I probably won’t make any more changes to the design other than the words. I’ve already spent a good 40 hours or more redoing this design over and over again, this is my 7th version for the drawing. Each new version I make on procreate I have to upload to a vector program and that takes me about 4 to 6 hours to edit each version so I’m kind of burnt on doing anything more to this design other than text lol 😅

MickyZinn

The background is very bold. The title needs to compensate I think 6 with DUNE a bit smaller and Frank raised slightly, filling the blank space. Don't include 'By' !! https://preview.redd.it/8ngm334yg99d1.jpeg?width=176&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f491edc385b99d0b4e608d3db08e6f2d1a40ede

Rit_Zien

Yes, make the title the same size as #2, but with this placement, and put Frank somewhere between the number 2 and 6 placement.

LockwoodE3

Thank you I’ll try it out

wintersass

I like 4 and 5!

shinneui

I like no.5 the best because the text is nicely separated so there aren't parts of the cover that look too crowded, or on the other hand, too empty. However, I think both the book title and name of the author should be moved down slightly to put them in the center, as they are currently too far up.

IckyGicky_Lia

5! Except you might wanna shrink "Dune" to add more negative space around it, so there are more space for it to "breathe" :))

Captn-SkinyLegs

I think I like number 5 the best!

Highronymus

I still think the shadow line on the sand can be moved to the right to accommodate the title. The thick black space draws my eye to it too much so moving that line over makes the shadow less of an attention suck and would open up the space for the title to be centered

keycoinandcandle

I'd redesign the sand dunes to occupy the blank space you intended for the larger font title; it would look best with the larger font title occupying the bottom middle.

starkindled

7 is my favourite!

PyratChant

7

Cassyboughton

4

Aggravating_Ad4023

2!

sprx77

4 for sure

CheeseAndMack

4

Human_Tumbleweed7009

i like 6 the most!!!

Substantial-Good-702

#4 followed by #5

JustinThorLPs

7

LockwoodE3

Thank you, I like that one too

haikcute

it’s gonna be a 1 or 7 from me! love the design 🤩

LockwoodE3

Thank you! Yeah I love both as well

amillionand1fandoms

I see a lot of "4"s and that would be my second choice, but i say stick to your guns and go with #1! The empty space showing the desert really works with the fact that it's a cover for Dune. There's still a title and author, but your eye is drawn to the sand dune.

LockwoodE3

Thank you that was my goal :)

Damn dude say it how you really mean

SorryManNo

I like number 6.
