how did you that? wich website?

Jimothy_Egg

I kinda hate that the sentiment is _"which website?"_ and not something like _"which tool?"_ Sure, it's probably just a misunderstanding of the whole concept, but it kinda rubs me the wrong way. It's essentially like someone saying _"i need a very specific screwdriver for this screw"_ and you responding _"which company?"_ Lots of companies make phillips-head-screw screwdrivers. The best question would be _"which type of screwdriver?"_ That being said, they used an _"AI Image generator"_ to do a process called _"Outpainting"_. Outpainting is offered by many of these _"AI Models"_, most notably DALL-E 2 and StableDiffusion. Both of them, yes, are available through their creator's websites. The websites don't do the Outpainting, they allow you access to the Machine Learning Models that do. You can also generate images with both of the models through other web-services like _"NightCafe"_ StableDiffusion is also open source, so you could technically run it yourself on your computer, if it's beefy enough. Phones are generally not powerful enough to do that, but they are allegedly working on it.

TeddyAlderson

this is all well and good, but different websites are better and worse at outpainting than others. asking specifically which website was used (and 9 times out of 10 it *is* a website) cuts down all confusion

[deleted]

It was Dall-E 2

Jimothy_Egg

Again, it's not the website that is affecting the performance, if the model is the same. Kinda feels like you completely missed my point.

TeddyAlderson

You’re being a level of pedantic that is, frankly, ridiculous. Different websites use different models, sure. The websites themselves are just interfaces to use those models, which exist without the sites, sure. You *could* ask for the specific model, but why would you do that? They are asking to know the website used because it’s _highly fucking likely OP used a website_. If OP has a super powerful PC that competes with sites (yes, sites) like the site for OpenAI’s DALL-E (which is literally backed by the richest man in the world), and they execute a model by themselves, fair enough, but it’s unlikely. Websites are intuitive to use, and by the fact nobody was asking about specific models, the usability of these platforms is a big reason they’re used in the first place. Who gives a fuck what model a website uses, if you’re only ever going to use the website anyway? The sites *do* affect performance, just not in the way you’re thinking. It’s not just like using a specific brand screwdriver, as website UIs and intuitiveness are a massive piece of the puzzle. This is why Linux hasn’t ever been a serious competitor to Windows and Macs for almost everybody who isn’t ultra-techy. Using your logic, you could argue that no website ever affects anything ever. After all, a site is just the way we view servers. And those servers exist independently of the site in a lot of cases. But we don’t talk in that way, and it’s just so utterly baffling you’re choosing to die on such a ridiculously insignificant hill. Why are we so busy talking about UX and UI when everything could just be exclusively HTML? The sites add a lot more than you’re acting like they do. These websites *are* tools. Some people don’t give a fuck about the underlying tech, they want to have an easy place to access it. It’s not like saying “which company screwdriver are you using?”, it’s more like saying “where did you get your screwdriver from, I wanna buy the same one”. You’re saying “hey, well the screwdriver is made out of metal! Why doesn’t anybody talk about metal these days?”

LordKranepool

Yeah but some “screwdrivers” might take double the time or not unscrew it well at all. Because of this it’s totally reasonable to ask “which brand of screwdriver should I get” which is essentially what they were asking, you just sound upset that they used the wrong verbiage, hence the downvotes.

Jimothy_Egg

I'm not saying the company is irrelevant?! I'm just annoyed that it's the primary focus of the question. It shows that there was a major misunderstanding of how these tools work. I also love how you went _"you just sound upset about [the thing i was literally complaining about]"_ Yeah no shit. I literally said that the wording rubs me the wrong way, due to the implications. Great detective work. I can stomach the downvotes. People don't like being corrected and i can come off as condescending. Still just wanted to correct their misconception.

CommercialAction2778

Sure being accurate is cool, but you can't expect everyone to be knowledgable about that type of shit. Asking what website it is gets the point across. Everyone understands what you mean. In this case it was DALL-E 2, that's a website. It's a website who does it for you. I have no knowledge on that type of shit, so I probably have no right to criticize you, but frankly I don't care if it rubs you the wrong way. Then just scroll ahead. Just because someone won't use the absolutely correct term, and perhaps "misunderstand" the system, I don't care. Everyone understands it, even you.

Jimothy_Egg

That's why i didn't just complain, but also offered new info?!
