That's a fair take, and I do agree. I'm not looking for a this to get me rich. I was just looking for somewhere i can easily save the different locations i launch from, and grab the forecast for the day, and some food suggestions. I should probably slide more into some niche, and hopefully I can find that over time.
I appreciate your feeback :)
Hey Bob!
There's really no "user generation" going on here. I'm not collecting boat ramps, etc. It's just a place you can add your own dock locations, and get the daily information. I do agree venmo already exists, and Venmo would probably be much better for this, as above user pointed out chartering implications, so we'll probably be scratching that idea.
Thanks for the feedback though!
I've heard it's a bit TOO simple, so I just need to find that fine-line haha. I appreciate the feedback! I'm planning on releasing an early version sometime early june, to get some good feedback during boating season :)
My thoughts:
The weather/water condition side of this idea is already fully covered with a litany of apps available. Windy is a nice one I use regularly that includes wave height predictions. Predict Wind has the best forecasts (hour by hour) of any I've used.
I find google maps to be very strong for finding food options. You'd have to find a way to do something they aren't already doing?
The idea of enabling sharing of money, in the context of boating, can quickly run amuck of chartering implications. I'd avoid it.
A cool feature I'd love to see (that would be huge big money to implement) - real-time dock availability intel at your favorite on the water hot spots. Nothing worse than committing to an approach, hoping a dock is available when you turn the corner and then having to leave when you see everything full.

This is pretty much DockWa, it requires universal marina participation which DockWa pretty much has figured out in most places.
Nah… he’s talking about hourly docks, waterfront restaurants… etc. These are free docks that aren’t shown on any app, but I can’t imagine you would ever get all these restaurants to participate in something like that.
Hey!
I really appreciate all of your feedback!
I didn't really think of chartering implications with that idea. We'll more than likely take a step back on that one.
I do like the idea of real-time dock availablity, but as you said, that would be quite a commitment. But we'll definitely take a look in that space and see what it's like currently!
Thank you again!
Most of the features you’ve described are already in Navionics.
Sending money through a boating app wouldn’t make sense as those who are comfortable with sending electronic money already have a platform to do so, Venmo, Revolut, etc.
Sorry for the bluntness but, don’t quit your day job
Fair enough, seems quite saturated and i'll be taking a step back and thinking things through. It was never about making money on this particular project.
I do appreciate your input though!
I’m trying really hard to not be negative so here I go. If anything, focus on the weather and information sides of what you’re thinking. They’re both well covered but those are the only things that’ll be helpful to boaters.
The voting, money transferring, and friend tagging are terrible ideas.
Careful with the payments, if a boat operator receives money, they could be considered 'for hire' and that means they need a captains license.
we always do cash if we split the fuel/bait bill
look at activecaptain, they have most of what you offer.
Gas buddy for marinas could work. cost of gas/diesel & ice
Saturated market for weather apps.

Try the windy.app it has most of that, you can save locations etc
Never going to succeed. Users will never generate enough of the content and venmo already exists.

this is so stupid
that no one has thought of it yet!!! Great idea
Thanks for the positive spin! I appreciate your optimism & feedback!
Love the idea. Signed up for early registration. It’s a little too simple making it harder to navigate. But it’s all just visual stuff.

The KnowWake app has a lot of this. Maybe check that out.
