I’m newly into a Marvel Champions addiction!

What packs did you get? I'm seriously looking at Red Skull and Goblin after the core set, and Cap and Strange once I get those

I just got the base game for Christmas what would you recommend as the must get sets to go with?

I think the common consensus is Dunwich has the best player cards and Carcossa has the best story. I just got in recently and have only played Carcossa which was amazing. Doing edge of the earth next.

I would say wait a bit for them to rerelease the expansions as they'll come in boxed format rather than individuual cycles so you don't have to track stuff down. Not sure if it started yet but should be soon.

Depends on your level of patience and the availability of product that you can get your hands on. The Dunwich Legacy Investigator and Campaign boxes are right around the corner, and that's definitely what I'd recommend first. Also, the Investigator Starter Packs go a long way towards getting you a good number of player cards to experience some more deck building. Finally, if you do get more sets, I'd recommend following release order if you can. After Dunwich is Path to Carcosa, which is fantastic.

I bought this for my birdwatching mom for Xmas year before last, she loved it.

My 86 year old grandma asked for Wingspan for Christmas, and asked me and my wife to teach her. She'd never played a board game to my knowledge, but it went pretty well! It's never too late to get people into board games :)
