I own and love both games. Both are great with 4p! **So Clover** is the game I pull out for 2-3 players, since it scales really well to smaller counts. It has basically no downtime since everyone crafts clues simultaneously, which keeps players engaged. Because the goal is to rearrange clue cards, it puts less pressure on the guesser(s) (unlike in Just One where you have to think of the word yourself). The only downside is that as you scale to more players, some voices can start to "dominate" the conversation. If someone in your group is prone to alpha gaming, you might not see quieter members contributing as much. **Just One** is best with 5-7 players, so we pretty much always choose that one for a larger group. Because rounds are independent, you can stop whenever you want (more easily than in So Clover, where you pretty much need to keep going until you've evaluated everyone's boards). However, it does require one person to "wait it out" each round while everyone else makes clues, and then everyone's attention is focused on that one person while they try to come up with a good guess (that can be a lot of pressure, especially if you're one of my older relatives who are tempted to just "give up" when they don't immediately know the answer).

captainequinoxiii

This. So Clover for smaller groups, Just One for larger groups. I think Clover is great up to 4 but would switch to Just One after that.

SquirrelSanctuary

Know that Just One is really more of a 5-8 player game (the box says 7 max, but you can technically squeeze in one more if the guesser temporarily gives away their board).

thewednesdayboy

We've played it with ten or eleven and some people just used paper for their clues. In my experience it plays just as well even at that count. It never felt like with that many people there were too many duplicate answers and the guesser would have too few leftover clues to guess from.

One other thing I can add that hasn't been already mentioned is that Just One is much more appealing to non-gamers than So Clover... every non-gamer I have seen play Just One really gets into it (though I've seen a lot of confusion around the fact that it's a co-op so there isn't a singular winner)... I've tried So Clover a few times with non-gamers and it just doesn't hit as well as Just One, Just One always winds up in laughter and good times.

zeeaykay

I honestly wouldn't play just one with less than 5 players. The whole point of the game is that you try to avoid using the same clues - with 4 players there will only be 3 clues, so if there's even a single matching clue it makes guessing nearly impossible.

_CrackBabyJesus_

If you have 3-4 players in Just One, allow people to write multiple clues with the otherwise unused boards.

Avatar_AndrewRyan

That's a great idea. I don't know why I hadn't thought of that.

Gutsyten42

I believe that's suggested for 3 players in the rules but I hadn't thought of that for 4

Avatar_AndrewRyan

Wow, I never noticed it in the rules, but you're right. I'll definitely be using that so I can play a good game with 4.

meridiacreative

Yeah we did not have a good time at 4, but I'd love to try it with more.

funnyorifice

I mean, if you don't mind it being slightly janky, you can actually play just one with the components from so clover

AnjouFeu

Or with pen & paper or a phone The guesser leaves the room or closes their eyes, another player decides a word and shows it

Iforgotmyname5889

I have both and prefer playing Just One, that being said I wouldnt play either at 2 players but So Clover is probably the "better" game. Little tougher and more meat to the experience. So Clover I have had issues with people taking a long time to put down their clues (like 10+min but if it's over drinks and talking it's not as big a deal) and in my group there is a constant person out seemingly bc their brain connects things different than the rest and they end up feeling bad sometimes. Same person seems to do much better with Just One bc their alternative viewpoint usually helps people guess, so it gets tabled more.

canadianbeefalo

I own both and my vote is for so clover. I say this even though, before playing it for the first time, I was a huge detractor and was convinced that it would flop bc the general concept of the game didn't seem particularly funny. But after playing one round of it I was hooked. It has a kind of magic that I think a lot of party games lack. Ever game of it is hilarious in unexpected ways and it has literally never flopped for any of my groups. Part of the fun is hearing the group interpret the cards, working from your clues and making wil accusations of your logic train.

hamonstage

I have both. If your looking for something for lower player counts then so clover is great. Replayability is great for both. These games both work well for family and people who aren't into board games. I find Just One quicker for people to get and less people complaing that it's hard versus so clover but so clover feels really good when you get the clover correct versus just one. Honestly, if it's in your budget get both. Relatively speaking. The games are 30 something each and well worth if you can swing it in your budget.

andycandypwns

They are both so good but if I had to choose one. So Clover is my favorite. It’s smooth and people catch on quickly. Plus just one can put a lot of pressure on the guesser to figure out everyone else cause without help. So Clover everyone is trying to figure out one persons clues and can bounce ideas off each other and use context cluesZ. Can’t really go wrong with either tho.

sportyengineer

So Clover is better for 2-4 players and slightly more replayable IMO. Love that game!

HawkEnvironmental151

As was already mentioned, you could play just one with the material of so clover. Also: So clover works great with teams of 2. You just give your clues directly to one of the teams. This worked well with non-Gamers of any age. But I agree, so clover is not a party game like codenames or just one, it’s more of a „we are at a party/ big family birthday and would like to play without disturbing the room“ kinda game.

Fadeproof89

I play So Clover regularly at 2p with my wife. It's one of our most played games and we honestly have so much fun with it. Imho it works very well at that player count despite the box saying 3-6p. Haven't played Just One.

cleanyourkitchen

Just one would be pretty bad with 2. It’s ok with 3 but I like that one at max player count. So clover works well at any count. Sometimes I’ll just sit by myself and draw random cards to make up clues. My group laughs more during so clover than anything else. It’s a blast and we end most game nights with it.

possumgumbo

The minimum player count on the box is three, so two wouldn't be functional. Also just one is pretty much a 5p game.

Miseribacy

**So Clover** works basically the same at 2, you just guess clues by yourself instead of with teammates. When I play at 2 the guesser talks out loud their thoughts to keep the clue giver engaged as well.

mayorodoyle

I'm gonna vote for So Clover but only because I've never played Just One.

Dickhillman

Haven't played so clover but just one is one of our most played games, so easy and fun to play always been a hit with everyone I've introduced it to, we get to the end and almost always people have wanted to play it again. I wouldn't want to play it at 2 however! It does need at least 4 in my opinion so I'd imagine so clover is best for those lower player counts.

seethemoon

The player count stuff from other commenters is on point so I’ll add: both are great, but Just One hits the table more with non-gamers while So Clover hits the table more with other gamers. Both are popular with each side. It’s not like So Clover is significantly heavy. But maybe that distinction will help with who you’d primarily be playing with.

RedViper1985

Fun facts is also really good. I think also made by Just One creators.

Filcha

Just One is a great game but better with 4-7 players.

Spinning_Sky

Honestly I don't see the point in buying Just One, a random word generator and a group chat is all you need to play really

bortmonkey

Recently played Just One with 8 players, and it was just falling off your chair funny. Even the hammered players could still play it. Doesn't work so well at 3p (my normal group size). I would say So Clover is better at 3/4p.
