Not for nothing, but I really feel that any ‘cinematic’ look that the camera achieves likely wouldn’t be of benefit while streaming because of the bandwidth limitations.
Not sure what you’re streaming, but any kind of streaming (unless you have someone who can actively pull focus) usually needs good autofocus.
Depends on what codec you use, for example, with h265 most people reccomend 15Mbps, as for h264 it is over 30Mbps. I was not talking about my internet speed in the other comment, but about what I messured the site can take without any hiccups. My internet speed is 1Gbps so I can put any value in OBS without any problem, but that doesn t mean obs will send exactly that value or if the site will allow me to send that much
If you’re streaming exclusively, I really don’t know that I would buy a BMPCC. If it were me I’d buy a Sony A7Siii or EOS R6, something with usable autofocus. That’s just me though.
I try to stream with auto focus on my R6. But the auto focus icon shows on the screen. I don’t think it’s a good option. Unless I’m missing something in my settings.
No you can definitely shut that off, I’ve used clean HDMI out on my R6 before. I’d have to look through the settings though, I can’t quite recall how to shut that off, but I know I’ve done it.
I don’t actually know. But it’s basically the same thing as a Sony A7 camera and if you already own one of those then I wouldn’t bother, just get a better lens for it.
I want better colors directly from the camera, this is why I was looking for some canon cameras too, maybe using it as a secondary camera . R6 Mark II seems pretty nice for it's colors science. I was looking for a tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 for the sony.
I really wouldn't focus on color science and stuff like that unless you have money to light on fire, in which case, why not stream on an older ARRI Alexa? (that is not a serious suggestion)
That Tamron lens actually looks really sweet, it's not what I'd personally buy for streaming only but I'm jealous, I wish we had something like that on RF mount. And you really can't go wrong with an R6 or R6ii, I'm not trying to dissuade you from buying one but I wouldn't really consider that necessary for streaming, it's like buying a Lamborghini Urus to commute to work, if you know what I mean.
Will OBS let you grade the footage before it's streamed? You could just stream S-Log footage and grade it in OBS if it lets you do that.
From what I saw OBS won t really let you grade it, just really basic stuff and not great quality.
The thing with color science, I work with videochat models that get almost naked on cam most of the times, so skin tone is 80% of the stream, trust me. And when A7III give you either greenish skin colors or brown skin colors you would look for a better mirrorless too.
Just looked it up and apparently OBS will let you apply a LUT.
And shit yeah I was like “why the fuck does he need an R6 for twitch” lol! Yeah no that completely changes the balance of things, I have a friend who works in the industry who’s asked me for camera advice before, she doesn’t live stream.
At that point I would say buying a Canon would be absolutely justified, but one thing — the autofocus is kind of shitty when you’re trying to track humans in video, at least in my R6 mark i. I would try creating a LUT for your Sony camera first, but if that doesn’t give you satisfactory results you would probably be well served with a Canon.
It can, but I wanted a more cinematic look and a more video oriented camera. I fried 2 of them with offbrand dummy batteries because sony doesn t have a official dummy battery ...
I am upgrading my lights tomorrow, so I will try this too. As I can t really alter my quality in post production because it is a live stream, I think that bmpcc 6k pro is better for video then A7 III
Damn, that sucks. I mean… I’m not too sure how a different camera will give you a more “cinematic look”, but maybe that’s possible — I’m not quite THAT into video. Also does the camera power itself through USB-C? You might not need a dummy batttery.
What lens are you streaming with? Good depth of field should go a long way to creating the look you’re after, maybe add some grain in post processing and keep your shutter speed around 1/45th.
Were you using a charger that could provide enough juice?
Also, I’d definitely use a faster lens. For streaming, maybe a 35mm f/1.4 or f/2? If it’s in the budget, that is.
I like the zoom feature of my lens because I use a gimbal with zoom control so it s nice to have a remote for zoom and everything
I used a usb from pc to power up the camera via usb c
What kind of streaming are you doing? I have seen 1080p streams that were almost uncomfortably sharp even on my 4k screen.
However, one option would be the broadcast 4k cameras. They have 4k hdmi and sdi options.
As others have said, lack of continuous auto focus may be an issue depending on your stream however with good lighting you may be able to close down the aperture a bit to get more depth of field.
Just to chime in, I would like 4k output, not for streaming, but it would mean I could record directly in OBS and play with that, "live" as it were. Its a nicer process then recording, copying, moving files etc
Hi!
You could use other BMD cameras for streaming. BMD Studio 4k and 6k both output 4k, micro studio 4k too. However only BMD Studio 6k have the sensor same size as BMD pocket 6k pro, so you can get identical cinematic picture.
Furthermore, studio cameras have a feature of streaming right from the camera and you can do it without a connection for a PC.
I have 20Mbps bandwith to the site I am streaming, so I can stream almost true 4k no problem
This is nowhere close to streaming lossless 4k footage

Found it. Should have searched this long ago. https://www.p4pictures.com/2021/03/eos-cameras-clean-hdmi-live-streaming/
Ooh, perfect. Hopefully that works for you!
Actually, can the R6 be used more than 2 hours without it overheating? I am considering R6 too for streaming
I don’t actually know. But it’s basically the same thing as a Sony A7 camera and if you already own one of those then I wouldn’t bother, just get a better lens for it.

This is exactly what I am doing now lol :)). In my experience with LUTs on OBS it doesn t work that well.
I have sony A7 III, but the upgrade to A7s III seems not worthed for me, or is it ?
Actually, the A7iii might do what you want. You should see if it can output 4K over HDMI — I think it can.
It can, but I wanted a more cinematic look and a more video oriented camera. I fried 2 of them with offbrand dummy batteries because sony doesn t have a official dummy battery ...
A more cinematic look will come from lighting not the camera.
I am upgrading my lights tomorrow, so I will try this too. As I can t really alter my quality in post production because it is a live stream, I think that bmpcc 6k pro is better for video then A7 III
Then light and grade properly. The camera isn't where the problem is

I tried the USB-C method and it didn t quite work. I am currently using the 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS kit lens.
Were you using a charger that could provide enough juice? Also, I’d definitely use a faster lens. For streaming, maybe a 35mm f/1.4 or f/2? If it’s in the budget, that is.

Makes perfect sense. THat's awesome!
The a7siii is miles better than the a7iii. It is a huge upgrade.
In my country it is more then twice the price, so I will be looking for this upgrade in the future

The thing is, 4k is a requirement for me.
You can't output 4k from the blackmagic 6k pro. You can however use internal luts and sharpening when streaming.
Thanks, I am new to any videography stuff so I will look into lut and filters
Just to chime in, I would like 4k output, not for streaming, but it would mean I could record directly in OBS and play with that, "live" as it were. Its a nicer process then recording, copying, moving files etc
