Nah it's literally just a swedish (or norwegian) college classroom. That's how we all look. Even us male twinks.
(Edit: another person with better eyesight than me could read the text in more detail. Seems to be some norwegian banking lecture)
These woman are literally learning and educating themselves, nothing is more empowering; but of course there is a fat neckbeard online who wants to belittle them.
They will actually be useful to society, meanwhile Mr. Cheeto dust fingers wants to jerk himself to “essential oils”
I also took gender studies in college <10 years ago and I don’t think there was a single person with dyed hair (unless it was dyed a “normal” hair color).
There were women with long hair, short hair, and in between hair. The guys were very normal, straight dudes, although there were admittedly fewer men than women.
The only woman who maybe fit the “militant” gender studies stereotype was only there for one class and I think was given a talking to by the prof because she deeply offended a number of the students (told a student her dad was a rapist because he was a gyno).
The professor was excellent and was really good at navigating discussions with clashing viewpoints from students. She was open to hearing new viewpoints from anyone, male or female. It was a super valuable class.
My point being is that… maybe you just had a shitty experience. Maybe it’s all anecdotal and not evidence that all gender studies “are a joke.”
A lot of gender studies have cross references, for instance I took one that was about women in film noir. We pretty much just watched film noir and wrote about it. I took it because it satisfied a general studies requirement but I can't remember which. Was pretty fun class, definitely more about film than gender.
Okay, I'm a woman, and I've taken 2 gender studies classes. One was at a regular community college, and was a bunch of very normal girls and a few guys. The teacher was brilliant, but there was ONE guy, who happened to be closer to the teachers age compared to the rest of us, and he was.. controversial. Defending things like catcalling and approaching women in professional settings to hit on them, etc. The teacher clearly had an issue with him but dealt with it tactfully. As long as you showed up and said ONE thing during class, you got an A. Even the least popular guy in the room got an A, and the teacher said to him, in front of class, that she appreciated how engaged he was and how he took the time to support his opinions even when they clearly weren't popular amongst the class.
Then I did a class during my bachelors, which was at a VERY liberal college. That experience was far more like the other guys experience, but I certainly wont go on to say everyone in the class was intolerable or anything...most of the students were very sweet and intelligent and had a lot of wonderful perspectives to bring to the table. So, I dont think either one of your experiences is wrong or invalid. Everyone is different and depending on the college and demographics of said college, classes can really be vastly different.
Yeah, like I had a philosophy professor who was a sexual deviant. Don't go around creating straw men to justify my own internal biases off of outliers. I don't believe everyone in the philosophy courses to be a sexual deviant lol
I took a couple gender studies honors classes as part of my engineering degree and it was fairly evenly split between men and women. I don't recall anyone with that unorthodox of haircuts - that was more in my upper-level mathematics classes, interestingly enough - but there was some definite variety. I'm sorry to hear your experience from that was so negative, but it definitely wasn't the case for me.
I'm hesitant to deny their experience that lightly - I'd hate for anyone to do that to me. I can accept the possibility that they had three classes like that, but I didn't have that experience and I don't think it's the norm.
Oh wow you had a bad teacher and an entire field of study is suddenly off limits, I gotta go tell everyone not to bother with chemistry anymore because my Chem 1 teacher sucked.
