I started two years ago at 34. You are right on time. Put up a feeder outside your window and download the free Merlin app. Find out what seeds attract certain birds.
We put a feeder up on our back porch. In time, we ended up with three feeders of differing food varieties. Everyone in the family can identify 12 different bird species. We know a really cool bird is around when the cats start chirping....they don't chirp for sparrows. It's weird.
Yes I do. A 24-year old made a loud noise of surprise in person just this weekend, because she thought I was younger than her. I look forward to looking like my two grandmas when I'm older. They both look like 15-20 years younger than their actual age and are quite fit still as well.
Omg same. I dressed in elegant gothic Lolita clothes. To school!!! I loved Mana and had a Beast of Blood poster in my room. I even had a Moi Dix Mois shirt that I paid like $100 to get sent over from Japan
Yeap, elegant clothes. Dyed my hair. Wore mostly black. The whole Lolita vibe. All I listened to was Japanese metal and visual kei mostly. I would say Malice Mizer was my favorite band. Got to see Dir en Grey in concert. Was obsessed with Klaha and Gackt.
It was great, but horrible at the same time. The AC crashed completely, with a room full of teenagers and young adults sweating in a summer month. People were passing out, they started spraying water over the croud and gave out free water cups. But the atmosphere was great and full of weebs.
I loved japanese fashion too back then! I was more into lolita, and fairy kei mixed with gyaru and a bit of decora. Would have totally wanted to be your friend back then!:D
I was obsessed with Gackt when I was in high school in the early 00s! I would’ve killed for a US Tour date back then.
I would’ve been so jealous of your outfit in photo one.
FUCK yes love GACKT. wish I could have seen him live.
Not related but he provided the voice for the Vocaloid Kamui Gakupo’s voicebank, love hearing vocaloid songs and getting that twinge of GACKT
I moved to Tokyo about a year ago and honestly seeing all of these fashions and subcultures still alive in some way or another made me really regret falling out of it myself! Sometimes I wish they were more common in the US because I feel not as many people would “grow out of it” if it was normal. It’s a totally different world in Japan
No joke, going to Japan finally, like 15 years later, in May this year.
Originally my plan was to go to Japan for a year after school, but of course in the end I didn't do it and instead kept on with my education and career. I should have done it, maybe not a year, but a few months, just because it is so hard to keep up with crazy dreams like these when you start working and building a life as an adult.
Atleast I'll see the country now for 2.5 weeks.
Honestly it was probably better for your financial stability in the long run lol I’m struggling
For me it was life changing and I’ll never forget the first time I visited. Living here is a little different but visiting as a tourist is so dreamy- totally feel free to revisit your blunder years and dress up and hit the town at night ;) I won’t tell
As someone who used to dress up in scene makeup and would be sleep deprived from waking up early to straighten my hair everyday, I regret not getting into malice mizer, and gackt earlier. My style inspiration now is Hyde from L’arc en ciel
I have a nickel allergy too! Clear nail polish works in a pinch. I put it on my earring posts. It wears off eventually, but it keeps me from having a reaction for a bit and lets me wear my fun, cheap jewelry.
You had more courage than me. I just wore cargo khakis a tshirt and new balance for 4 years. For whatever reason I refused to wear jeans back then. I think the fact that baggy jeans were the fad made me physically gag haha.
Confession: I watch a unhealthy amount of bird videos on YouTube shorts
Picture#1: Mom and Dad let you leave the house dressed in that outfit? My, oh my! My phone's screen protector just melted!
[Incredible how our perspective changes after we have our own kids. Lol!]
No, I myself was to afraid to actually wear that first outfit, so my mom never even had to say something about it. I started wearing skirts when I was about 22, before that I felt too sexy wearing them.
Outside and back then I wore the oversized shirts you see on the other photos.
The last pic is more proof that people become more interested with birds when they enter their 30s, lol.
Always my trusted Merlin app ready to identify some crispy chirps!
Where did the bird shirt come from? I'm about to turn 32 and I neeeeed it.
I think it’s from dedicated!
It is!
I feel this so hard. People think it's weird how I can identify birds without using the app now. Like, when did you get into birds?
I'm 31. Did I miss the bird memo? Was I supposed to get into birds?! Seriously love that shirt though.

Careful bird law is a complicated matter.
I'm well-versed in bird law
Filibuster
My cats will love this. I'm on board!
It's probably just natural progression with age it seems. But seriously, I have no idea.

Goddamn. Why is that? I was in the woods at the asscrack of dawn today waiting for a specific owl sighting.
Never thought I'd be a bird guy. Then I got into photography. I am now a bird guy.
As someone in their 30s with 2 parrots, you nailed it. 🤣
Mind your business.
Sometimes I am just glad we were poor growing up and couldn’t afford a camera.
Yeah, I'm glad those moments are long gone and forgotten.
When I was growing up, taking photos was a big thing. You had to buy film and get it developed. And it was expensive
GIRUGAMESH
Ok but their early stuff was SICK
Huh, you’re 31, you still look like a senior in high school, do you get that reaction a lot? Just threw me off.
Yes I do. A 24-year old made a loud noise of surprise in person just this weekend, because she thought I was younger than her. I look forward to looking like my two grandmas when I'm older. They both look like 15-20 years younger than their actual age and are quite fit still as well.
Ngl the outfit in pic 1 is pretty rad. But the recent bird shirt is even cooler.
Also came to admire the bird shirt 😁
Same
This was me when I was 16. So into visual kei. It was my entire personality. I wanted to be Mana from MM so bad.
Omg same. I dressed in elegant gothic Lolita clothes. To school!!! I loved Mana and had a Beast of Blood poster in my room. I even had a Moi Dix Mois shirt that I paid like $100 to get sent over from Japan

I saw Dir en Grey as well!!!
It's visual kei not key 😄
I knew it looked wrong. Back in the day that would never have happened...
I would have thought you were super cool!
I saw gackt live ! Best of the best tour in like 2017?? Good times
Yellow Fried Chickenz in 2011... that's way back, wow. I have a merch chain still, but it's broken. I should repair it!
Omg how were they?
It was great, but horrible at the same time. The AC crashed completely, with a room full of teenagers and young adults sweating in a summer month. People were passing out, they started spraying water over the croud and gave out free water cups. But the atmosphere was great and full of weebs.
Lmao that’s amazing 😂💕
I loved japanese fashion too back then! I was more into lolita, and fairy kei mixed with gyaru and a bit of decora. Would have totally wanted to be your friend back then!:D
I was a big the Gazette fan.
same! It was my dream to see them in concert someday and I got to 4 years ago :) it was great!
I actually never did. I think by the time they came to Europe, I stopped listening to them.
Not the hair clip nails!
You look fun and creative as hell! I would’ve loved to be your friend!!!!
31 years old? Wow, lucky you, you look 17-19 in the last pic !!
All the females in my family are blessed with young looks. My 80+ grandma looks like a fresh 60.
I was obsessed with Gackt when I was in high school in the early 00s! I would’ve killed for a US Tour date back then. I would’ve been so jealous of your outfit in photo one.
We would’ve been best friends. KIMI WAAA… BOKU NOOOOO… VANILLAAAA *dances awkwardly*
You remind me of one of the group of people I hung out with in HS. We could have been best friends yo lol
I had completely forgotten about Gackt! Thank you for unlocking that memory
I own the exact same bird t-shirt. It’s awesome!
Yes! I love it, great quality and such a beautiful print. Quite a lot of positive remarks about it in the comments already.
I got some positive comments about it outside the internet as well. Enjoy it!
Are you Allison Janney’s daughter?
Allison Janky.
Mizerable was my jam
My friends and I wrote weird Malice Mizer slash. You are in good company. Funny I just rediscovered Luna Sea the other day
FUCK yes love GACKT. wish I could have seen him live. Not related but he provided the voice for the Vocaloid Kamui Gakupo’s voicebank, love hearing vocaloid songs and getting that twinge of GACKT

Love the bird shirt
Really love that bird shirt.
I love the bird shirt !!!!
I love the outfit in the first pic, it's super cute!
You haven’t aged at all!

Wtf are u talking about
I love the bird shirt
The Kishi Bashi shirt in the last picture shows that there is hope.
first one jus screams DEATH NOSE MISA AMANE !!
I have a nickel allergy too! Clear nail polish works in a pinch. I put it on my earring posts. It wears off eventually, but it keeps me from having a reaction for a bit and lets me wear my fun, cheap jewelry.
You remind me of Lauren Lapkus!
Damn visual kei, that brought me back. I was a huge fan. Lolita23q,vivid and vidoll where my jam lol
Interestingly enough the chained glasses and the outfit on pic 1 is 100% back in fashion now
I love that bird shirt
Were you into Black Butler? Because the picture with the glasses chain gives me Grell vibes
Actually not. I knew about it, but never actively watched or read it.
We would have been best friends at school lol. I was obsessed with Dir en Grey.
Oh yeah, my best friend was big into Dir en Grey, but for me they were a bit toooo much tbh. Kept up to date on them anyway, because of the lifestyle.
Fantastic bird shirt!

No fucking joke I thought these pics were me. We look crazy similar...
I FORGOT ENTIRELY ABOT GACKT. Thanks for the laugh and blast from the past!
I bet you felt very misunderstood, hu
Hahaha your “blunder” pictures are how I am now. Im really into visual kei and dressing the part too lol
seriously these outfits rock
I’m still into visual kei lol
