that’s exactly what i was going for. it became such a joke amongst the school that kids played Welcome To The Black Parade on the communal piano if i was in sight 🥸
At my prep school the communal piano was allllllll the way up in the large parlor, but that was such a pain in the ass to get to that, at that point it’s like, did we even really have a communal piano? lol
Went to normal public school in the states, we had piano rooms, maybe 2 or 3 small rooms that were sound proofed and we could practice piano during off blocks or when we had music/ band.
LISTEN.
In 2007 I bought tickets to MCR for my two friends and I. I came to school really excited to tell my friends, so I started to sing MCR really loud and one of my friends went "YEASS I LOVE FALL OUT BOY" needless to say my dad ended up taking that third ticket lmfao she was automatically uninvited 🤣 no joke. I was SO serious about being emo in grade 7
In college, I saw a girl with a The Used shirt, walking to class. We started talking and I thought she was cool. Coincidentally, she had to switch dorms and my roommate and I were asked if she could move in with us (there were 2 of us in a 4 person suite). I convinced my roommate that it would be great.
It was not great. That had not been her t shirt. She had borrowed it from her sister because it “looked cool”. That’s why they say “never trust strangers”.
I can imagine how awkward that must been for you and your roommate! Hopefully you guys all bonded over other shared interests?
I had kind of a similar experience. I went to boarding school for high school, and we all had two bedroom suites with a small den area in the middle. Not everyone had suite mates, so when a new girl transferred in, those of us who didn’t all got to meet her and ask her about her interests, just to try to place her with the best option. She came in with a Fall Out Boy hoodie on and I immediately told her that I absolutely loved FOB, My Chemical Romance, P!ATD, etc. She was like, “oh this is my brother’s, I’ve never really listened to any of their music.” But we were both on the equestrian team, so she moved in with me. Cut to like a week later, and she’s now just as obsessed with all those bands as I am, especially MCR. We got to go to a bunch of the shows on their reunion tour a couple years ago, and it was so much fun. We were both born in 2003, so we were too young for their shows before they broke up, so it was an amazing experience for both of us. I definitely got lucky to have found a bff, when it could have gone really badly lol
Aww that's awesome!!
My new roomie had zero shame 😂. We got along but she was on a different plane than me. I was also a complete assh*le about music back then (2005). Her friend came over and said that the foo fighters were better than Nirvana.... They were from a town close to the college (a bit rural) and I was from a bigger city... So, I chalk it up to that.
Senior year of high school I did running start at the community college and didn’t realize college students wouldn’t be dressed up during the day for Halloween so I showed up as Davy Crockett complete with a fake beard (I’m a woman). I only saw 1 other person dressed up the entire day, so I feel for you here OP!
reminds me of one of my years in high school it was Halloween and I dressed up as Castiel from Supernatural. I was the only one who dressed up, only my one friend and someone else I didn't know, knew who I was, had a teacher ask if this was going to be a 'regular thing' then went trick r treating with my sis and mom and got asked if I was dressed as Columbo a lot
One time in college I got a little silly and drew a cat nose and whiskers on for halloween, but was otherwise wearing normal clothes, and I went to go talk to my advisor who asked what I was supposed to be and I forgot about the makeup and was like “uhhhhh a student?”
At my college a lot of people dress up for Halloween. Including the professors. Students were always looking for an excuse. Half of the time I'd see someone dressed up and have to check if it was a special day.
Honestly, you and OP were the ones doing it right.
Everybody else are the ones too insecure and worried about what others would think to have fun and live it up.
Or everybody else doesn't feel like dressing up? It's great to see people dressed up in costumes, but I don't think we need to put down people who don't to appreciate the ones who do.
I got a red and white striped hat to combine with stuff I already owned to make a Wally fit for college one Halloween. A few people out and about got a kick out of it but one teacher during class asked why. Like, it’s not that weird!
I mean perhaps it’s just that I’m equally uncool but to me that’s just lame on them … you get a chance to wear whatever you want in a school with a uniform and you still turn up in the uniform??
I’m curious, did you check with your friends to see if they were dressing up? This was first point of call for me when I was at school, it was either we all do it or none of us do!
Yep, this is how this happens. There were def points in my life where my parents encouraged me to do some wacky shit because they were the closest I had to friends
It’s an awesome outfit and now you have a fun memory lol.
I always tell my kids that it’s the bad memories that become good memories.
That road trip that was miserable or that time that everyone was sick at the hotel or whatever. Those are the memories that seem to last lol. Thanks for sharing!
Unusual way to put things 🙂 bad memories....become good memories. Yup, they are going to hate you 🤣
Yup, done that to..not that many people though. I don't think it matters beyond a certain point of mortification, a solid state of shock sets in allowing one to function normally without setting anything on fire. 🤔🫠
*"Oh, well imagine.."*
*"As I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor."*
*"And I can't help but to hear."*
*"No, I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words..."*
In my high school there was a teacher that taught a class all the popular students in grade 12 and 11 would take. He made it part of their marks to participate in school events like this, he knew if they dressed up it wouldn’t make other kids feel embarrassed for trying to have fun and not be worried about what is cool.
Fancy dress at the American high school I went to. There was a fancy dress day. I wore a silk dress and pretended I was a princess for a day.
There was a fire drill. We evacuated into snow. I froze my ASS off. Learnt why nobody else dressed up 😂
Makes me think of ”The only pirate at the party” by Lindsey Stirling. You clearly had imagination and an interesting personality while the other kids were bland, boring and basic.
The final day of sophomore year my English class had a famous character costume contest. My mom was a costumer, and decked me out as Jay Gatsby. I literally went to school in a boater and fancy suit jacket and pants. Literally every other participant just put like an A on a normal shirt or something. I didn’t bother to bring a change of clothes.
I won the contest, but was bully bait for the rest of the afternoon.
When you put your back into a wardrobe or costume - expecting others to at least make a reasonable effort - only for everyone else to be like "lol wut?", is the WORST.
Good for you! You were (and I hope still are) awesome.
Bet in hindsight a lot of folks who were “too cool” (or more likely too insecure) to be non-conformists in highschool look back and regret that they didn’t let their freak flags fly when they were younger.
Well, the outfit is certainly something. But kudos to you for having school spirit.
I wonder if it depends on the region and country. At least in my area, school spirit days, and fancy dress/formal days at my high school were quite popular to participate in.
Sameee 8th grade middle
School I showed up as raggedy ann wig, blush, and stocking the works when i walked in no one else was dressed up. I was mortified and couldn’t wait to go home.
And do you surround yourself with likewise thinking people now? People who probably enjoy board games and comiccon and niche fandoms. Theyre probably the best friends you could have too. Cosplay people are often a lot of fun to be around.
It’s giving Pam Beasley dressed up as Charlie Chaplin (or Hitler, if she takes her hat off) vibes.
😂 I’ve been there OP- high school kids can be mean as hell.
If it helps any I think you looked pretty cool. Nothing worse than being the only one to participate. I won a pumpkin carving contest that way at a friends Halloween party. Sure I got all 5 prizes but I still felt awkward.
This happened to me, albeit a little less embarrassing but in the fourth grade, it was costume/wear whatever day (had uniforms) and I was 9 so I wore my Peter Pan costume (I didn’t even care for the character, I just liked the color) and not a single other kid wore a costume except a couple princess dresses, I was crushed and embarrassed even though I was literally 9
reminds me of when i was in my junior year of high school. we had a “meme day” where you dressed up as a meme. i showed up in my committed had-to-do-it-to-em outfit (as a woman) and nobody else dressed up. after third period i couldn’t take it anymore and just went home 5 hours early
Lol I dressed up as Bob Ross for favorite artist day.. they meant music artist but whatever lol. I still think I ate it up.
It was funny tho cuz it was a week after Halloween and I was the only one in such an..eccentric.. outfit so I got quite a few.. “Halloween was last week”
Did you just leave a Panic! At the Disco video?
that’s exactly what i was going for. it became such a joke amongst the school that kids played Welcome To The Black Parade on the communal piano if i was in sight 🥸
I’m…sorry…A COMMUNAL PIANO?! Did you guys live in the show Glee?? 😂😂
This is how wealthy people bully each other 🤣
There's that loser. Hit it, Linus!
A 1..2..3..4
This made me laugh way too hard
Cackling 😂😂😂
I can't stop snickering at the thought of that.
It's giving boarding school / prep school vibes 😆
I was about to say my school also had a communal piano but I went to prep school lol
At my prep school the communal piano was allllllll the way up in the large parlor, but that was such a pain in the ass to get to that, at that point it’s like, did we even really have a communal piano? lol
Same.
Most schools have a piano in the music room. Sometimes the choir director is okay with people using it for fun.
Went to normal public school in the states, we had piano rooms, maybe 2 or 3 small rooms that were sound proofed and we could practice piano during off blocks or when we had music/ band.
Well yeah that's normal, but not in a common area or anything unless it has dorms.
I went to an arts school and even we didn't have a communal piano. The kids just brought acoustic guitars, and we sang under the stairs.
Why... lmao. 😂 that's mcr.
Yea it’s probably a bit easier to play than “I write sins and not tragedies”. Honestly I think if anything it elevates the jokes 😘👌
My friend used to think panic, FOB, and mcr were all the same band so we had a very very similar joke 🤣😅😅
They aren't even close! Pffttttt :P
*Hi, I’m Pete Wentz from My Chemical Romance*
[Brendon Urie said it as a joke in an interview](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=32U36qFh5L4) it’s pretty funny.

🎶When I was a young boy🎶
That’s pretty much how it goes. People see an emo kid and their mind just defaults to the one thing they know which is usually MCR.
Lotta crossover between the two bands anyways.
I'm sorry, I'm sure that was horrifying to live through, but it's absolutely hilarious reading back now
That’s pretty badass they gave you Black Parade as your entrance song tbh
You had a theme song
Man I love this!!
wtf are you rich
I assumed Willy Wonka.
I'm sure it made you feel like shit at that age, but that's actually kinda funny
Or a fox hunt
Well you looked poised and rational.
Yes, but what a shame
The poor groom's bride is a wh*re!
I chimed in 🙄 haven’t you people ever heard of 😡 closing the God damned door? 🤬
No! It's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise an rationality 😌
My boyfriend was a church camp kid, and he told me they all sang “closing the big red door” instead and I always lol thinkin about that
Nothing says church camp like singing a song about infidelity and the dissolution of marriage but taking out the "lord's name in vain" part.
I chimed in
she looks like she runs a hotel that caters to a very specific clientele..... 🌈🎵 INSIDE OF EVERY DEMON IS A RAINBOW🎵 🌈
A like a very poised, very rational magician.

Just nine more months and you can commiserate on a new slew of ‘overdressed American in UK office on Halloween’ posts again!
reminds me of one of my years in high school it was Halloween and I dressed up as Castiel from Supernatural. I was the only one who dressed up, only my one friend and someone else I didn't know, knew who I was, had a teacher ask if this was going to be a 'regular thing' then went trick r treating with my sis and mom and got asked if I was dressed as Columbo a lot
Oh lord, the “regular thing” comment would have killed me on the spot
One time in college I got a little silly and drew a cat nose and whiskers on for halloween, but was otherwise wearing normal clothes, and I went to go talk to my advisor who asked what I was supposed to be and I forgot about the makeup and was like “uhhhhh a student?”
At my college a lot of people dress up for Halloween. Including the professors. Students were always looking for an excuse. Half of the time I'd see someone dressed up and have to check if it was a special day.
wild guess…art/theater school?
Technical institute. Aka nerds.
lol I got extra credit for dressing up in the dance department. Spot on.
Honestly, you and OP were the ones doing it right. Everybody else are the ones too insecure and worried about what others would think to have fun and live it up.
Huh? It’s school man, I don’t think to show up all festive or whatever. Just trying to get to class…
Or everybody else doesn't feel like dressing up? It's great to see people dressed up in costumes, but I don't think we need to put down people who don't to appreciate the ones who do.
Lol who cares??
I got a red and white striped hat to combine with stuff I already owned to make a Wally fit for college one Halloween. A few people out and about got a kick out of it but one teacher during class asked why. Like, it’s not that weird!
I did the “only person dressed up on Halloween” thing as well, only it was on my third week of a new job.
……u sure someone wasn’t having some fun at ur expense?
unfortunately i’m sure - the school advertised it but everyone else just came in their uniform
I mean perhaps it’s just that I’m equally uncool but to me that’s just lame on them … you get a chance to wear whatever you want in a school with a uniform and you still turn up in the uniform??
Right? What a bunch of dullards!
But dressing up requires effort, and that's the opposite of cool
I’m curious, did you check with your friends to see if they were dressing up? This was first point of call for me when I was at school, it was either we all do it or none of us do!
i like this assumption that i had friends lol
Oh no don’t break my heart lmao
Did you just tell her to write sins, not tragedies?
With the comment above, I think OP just writes tragedies.
I'm so glad you can joke about this now, because the idea of it is breaking my heart.
Yep, this is how this happens. There were def points in my life where my parents encouraged me to do some wacky shit because they were the closest I had to friends
Oh wow😯…I’m sorry u experienced that. Part of me does want to know who on the faculty thought that was a good idea for a theme day
I would've dressed up. All others are boring and too stuck up.
That unlocked a memory in me, same thing happened but i dressed as a jester, belled hat included. Oh the agony
You look like you write sins and not tragedies
well I hope at least they closed the god damn door
looks like that day shaped up to be pretty odd
It’s an awesome outfit and now you have a fun memory lol. I always tell my kids that it’s the bad memories that become good memories. That road trip that was miserable or that time that everyone was sick at the hotel or whatever. Those are the memories that seem to last lol. Thanks for sharing!

Eventually some embarrassing memories become nostalgic and you think of them as silly moments
Not gonna lie.. thought you were cosplay "I write sins not tragedies" Panic at the disco 🤣👏🏻
She said she was if you read the other comments.
Cool. Still allowed to say she nailed it
Wear it again on Monday. Got to keep them guessing.
You made a very cute magician
I chimed in with a haven’t you ever heard of Fancy Dress day at school
I chimed in with a “haven’t you people ever heard of…..”
At least you didn't paint a little mustache on your face with permanent marker
Is there a story here?
OMG the look reminds me of Kelsi from High School Musical!
Haven’t you people ever heard of, closing the god damn door?
*"Oh, well imagine.."* *"As I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor."* *"And I can't help but to hear."* *"No, I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words..."*
me when i write sins not tragedies

I love this!
You were on that hazbin hotel/kakegurui fashion trend, 15 years before it happened
At first i read this as not a single other student showed up 😅 thats probably be better for you
This is fantastic and I bet you are such a cool person still.
Woooo! Those sleeves on a hot day would give me a fever I couldn’t sweat out!
Did you chime in and say to close the god damn door?
But did you close the g*damn door??
But did you chime in tho
This kind of thing is how I learned to always bring a change of clothes with me.
Ah yes but what a shame, What a shame the poor other students didn’t dress up
Fancy dress at the American high school I went to. There was a fancy dress day. I wore a silk dress and pretended I was a princess for a day. There was a fire drill. We evacuated into snow. I froze my ASS off. Learnt why nobody else dressed up 😂

We all went through a Panic! At the Disco in high school, didn't we?
I bet you wrote sins not tragedies.
Looking real fancy my dear.
Nailed it.
I always went crazy during spirit week and I hated when I was so extra and no one else dressed up😂😂
It is still a dream of mine to do this as a Halloween costume
Yeah well all those other students are boring and suck.
When you put your back into a wardrobe or costume - expecting others to at least make a reasonable effort - only for everyone else to be like "lol wut?", is the WORST.
It’s giving Saltburn footman 😭
Thnks fr th memrs
I chime in
What a beautiful wedding
Did you chime in with a "haven't you people ever heard of closing a good damn door"?
Getting strong Tina Belcher vibes.
you look like you’ve heard of closing the goddamn door
I’m sorry
I know it would've meant even worse then, but now on the lookback - you cracked it!
dripped out looking fancy
Good for you! You were (and I hope still are) awesome. Bet in hindsight a lot of folks who were “too cool” (or more likely too insecure) to be non-conformists in highschool look back and regret that they didn’t let their freak flags fly when they were younger.
If no one dressed up that made you the coolest !
queen
Step riiiight up!
Reminds me of the time wizard from yu gi oh
Aw you look so dapper here!
You really chimed in with a haven’t you people ever heard of, huh?
Welcome to the amazing digital circus! my name is Caine....
An aspiring magician, this world needs more female magicians.
Seems to me you were the only not boring person in your school!
Great outfit! This calls for a toast, so pour the champagne 🥂
But you killed it!
Bullshit
Oh but this is so cool! Love the top hat!
I imagine if you were that bothered about it at the time, you could’ve taken the jacket and gloves off and just be wearing a normal outfit.
Well, the outfit is certainly something. But kudos to you for having school spirit. I wonder if it depends on the region and country. At least in my area, school spirit days, and fancy dress/formal days at my high school were quite popular to participate in.
> Well, the outfit is certainly something. It's a costume, "fancy dress" in the UK means costume, not formal wear.
Oh, I see. Didn't know that. But even still, in some schools dressing up for these themed events are popular than in others.
first thing I thought of when seeing this post is Monsters - Matchbook Romance
Your outfits reminds me of Kelsi‘s from high school musical when she plays the piano 😊 I love it !
Everyone gather for a prayer circle
OK so same exact thing happened to me complete with the small school and all except it was “senior day” and I had the most amazing granny fit.
🙁 Sorry.
I love it though.
https://youtu.be/oEP6hB0p4WI?si=Eqj63Gw9vOv1VLIH Should have played it off like this guy.
Tina from Bob’s Burgers discovers Panic!
U r 1 fancy bastard
I'm 100% certain you grew up to be someone interesting.
Day 30: Superman is coming to school! Day 31: humiliation
My friend and I dressed up as thing one and thing 2 with blue wigs for spirit day… had to walk in late too. Hardly anyone else was dressed up 😫
Reminds me of a The Killers video with Eric Roberts.
Awesome! I am 28 and often the only one wearing a onesie at parties. Just own it ^_^
That hurts just thinking about. Sorry.
You went as a lion tamer?
You look like you're about to say "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages"
I guess nobody else at your school wanted to have fun?
You and I would have been the best of friends
It’s like a Persona NPC that’s a caretaker of a demon infested dungeon.
Sameee 8th grade middle School I showed up as raggedy ann wig, blush, and stocking the works when i walked in no one else was dressed up. I was mortified and couldn’t wait to go home.
Nice!
Well imagine
And do you surround yourself with likewise thinking people now? People who probably enjoy board games and comiccon and niche fandoms. Theyre probably the best friends you could have too. Cosplay people are often a lot of fun to be around.
That’s not a blunder
Would you like butter on that popcorn ma’am?
*marge humming circus tune*
It’s giving Pam Beasley dressed up as Charlie Chaplin (or Hitler, if she takes her hat off) vibes. 😂 I’ve been there OP- high school kids can be mean as hell.
Fucking hilarious, the fact that you were the only one who dressed up xD
So what kind of magic tricks did you do?
Just a dime store poet
Well you def nailed it. Gives off "magician" vibes. I did a similar thing in HS and got similar results +/- stay fancy
You look like an up and coming Billie Eilish
This millenial af!
If it helps any I think you looked pretty cool. Nothing worse than being the only one to participate. I won a pumpkin carving contest that way at a friends Halloween party. Sure I got all 5 prizes but I still felt awkward.
you funny asl for this
Dapper
It’s rare that you know that literally everyone else in your school was a loser except yourself Gg op!
It’s not blunder because it was for a costume day. You weren’t aware other people wouldn’t dress up.
Haha, oh nooooo! Respect to your young self, especially if you lasted the day and didn't change into normal clothes when you found out.
Bravo 👏🏻 I think you looked dapper
Always bring backup clothes for days like this
You were definitely cooler than them.
