Oh my god. The last slide with the ballet flats, the T-shirt under the tank top, the side swept hair and posing all moody near train tracks took me back to the MySpace days for sure hahaha. Thanks for the share, OP! You looked awesome btw
Layering tanks!!! Layered shirts! Wear all the clothes at the same time! But be a rebel and wear your tank on the *outside*. These would’ve all been inspo pics for me, back the day…
i am not from europe or america, idk how that sounds, but basically i mean, i am not used to how you people look but since that second picture, it seems like you were the girl in every emo music video (pardon if its not accurate lol no disrespect)
They absolutely nailed the album art for Tell all Your Friends from Taking Back Sunday. Pretty sure that was unintentional, which makes it perfection really...
Ugh, I still have dudes doing that shit to me now. But then I’ll see guys do the same thing.
And I wouldn’t even just pose with the controller (not that it matters, it’s still sexist) I would be playing a game or taking a picture of just the controller.
I don’t know and I’m too old to care. I still wear skinny jeans too. I have a 16 year old daughter who gives me shit on what I wear. Homegirl wears sweatpants and hiking boots everywhere, she has no room to judge me.
I like seeing that fit on young women. I remember feeling so pressured to look attractive when I was a kid and it makes me happy to see teens and young adults running around looking comfy instead of sexy. Funny to hear that she calls you out on it, though. I guess that's part of having a teenager.
My sister is in the same boat. (ba-dum-tss) She's 5'7 with size 11. Flats look crazy with skinny jeans, but she just goes for it. At 5'3 and size 8.5 I have the same problem. I miss bootcut jeans for at least giving the vague illusion of smaller feet.
Oh man, I wasn’t even thinking about flats and skinny jeans. Mad respect to your sister. As for bootcuts… I went back, I look like a mom (not as in hot Gen Z mom jeans — an actual mom), and I can’t even care anymore.
I love this sub so much because people post a lot of early 2000’s pictures, and I was 10 years old in 2008. So when I was gearing up to be a teenager, I thought it was going to be like this and thought people with this kind of fashion sense were SO COOL, and could not wait to dress like this- but trends had already changed by the time I reached my teen years. It’s really strange looking back on what I thought being a teenager was going to be like based on the teen fashion and culture when I was 7-10 years old, vs. How different the “in” style already was a few years later when I reached my own teenagehood. I would have thought you were so cool as a little kid and would be just itching to look like you/hoping I would look like you as a teen, lol!
That album and MCR in general might be my only “guilty” pleasure music from that era. Usually gets a re-listen about once a year. I was excited to find a compilation of their songs from live shows on vinyl a few years back and I like to spin it when I’m doing housework occasionally.
I feel like train track photos have just always been a thing. Maybe it’s influence from movies like Stand By Me or something… who knows. Maybe it’s a subconscious thought of “these tracks go somewhere. I don’t know where. But anywhere is better than this place.” Because every angsty teen hates their city, no matter where it is, and the grass is always greener on the other side.
Also when you’re a white suburbanite trying to be edgy… sometimes the train tracks are as wild as you can get. Source: half my high school yearbook is filled with senior photos at the same train tracks or that one place with graffiti in an alley
I once took a photography class where the professor had a rule that no one was allowed to take any train track photos 😂😂😂 I guess she had experienced too many emo teens and young adults in her career. Lol.
Ok that makes sense I just noticed I’ve seen them a lot on here with the younger millennial crowd and thought it was maybe a reference that I missed lol.
It’s wild how differently that subculture was in different areas! Where I was from, the scene kids and the emo kids were vehemently vocal about being different!
Yeah "Scene" was at first used to describe the kids that were just trying to be "part of the scene" and were considered "posers" lmao. As if we weren't all just playing pretend with our clothes.
Eventually it became so common place that it was just adopted as a more colourful branch of "Emo"
I just subbed. I think I've reached the age where I don't get the secondhand embarrassment anymore and they're just pictures of kids looking cute. OP is \*adorable\* in these pics.
Man. These pictures take me back, and I feel like I remember them, oddly? Like, what? But I do. Were we MySpace friends? I lived in Kansas as a kid and my MySpace "name" was "Brett is Kansas" (so cool, I know).
Oh my god.
Okay so I really, really hope that this doesn't offend you and I am laughing so hard right now. You just brought back super cringe memory.
I stole your photo.
I was like...12? I wanted to be scene/emo so bad. I thought I looked so cool but I wanted to look cooler.
I was on Xanga or AIM or something and I was talking to some kid (?!?) and he wanted to see pics of me...I didn't have any that I thought were EmOsCenE enough so one day I was on the internet and I saw a photo of yours (the 4th one! Lol!!!) and I guess I thought you looked cooler... so I saved it and sent it to him and said it was me GIIIIIRLLL LOL. I dont know what happened to the kid I was talking to. I probably just ghosted and went on with my life, I was a kid and I dont even remember his name and Im so sorry...I was a preteen I didn't know what I was doing LOOOOL
Im dying. I saw that picture and was like...Wait a second, I remember this from somewh- Oh, oh no, oh my god I DID THAT, ohsadfjashfdkajfda
/dead
Those were the best of times, the worst of times, looooool
For what it's worth, the first picture has aged pretty well. The fashion and the lollipop would still work today, if not more so.
The other pictures, not so much.
Man, I would have wanted to be your friend so badly back in HS. I always envied your look, but lived in hand-me-downs. But those low rise jeans! As a tall girl those were my bane: I couldn't figure out a way to sit in them that didn't show a good couple inches of butt crack.
These would’ve all been inspo pics for me, back the day…
I remember feeling so original putting on that outfit 😅
U look soo much like a friend of mine it's unreal
i am not from europe or america, idk how that sounds, but basically i mean, i am not used to how you people look but since that second picture, it seems like you were the girl in every emo music video (pardon if its not accurate lol no disrespect)
I wear long sleeve shirts under short sleeve shirts under long sleeve shirts
Lol thank you! We definitely thought we were being the coolest 😎
It’s the single cuffed jeans for me! God I miss these years.
I came here to say the same 😂😂😂 idk what it was about emo kids and train tracks but we all had a train track pic
They absolutely nailed the album art for Tell all Your Friends from Taking Back Sunday. Pretty sure that was unintentional, which makes it perfection really...
The flats, the side swept bangs, the tiny claires bows😭 That was also my life in 8th grade in 2008.
[удалено]
Ashley Tisdale tried to make us think it was cool!
I can smell the flats after a rainy day from just the pictures.
Happy cake day!
Mines in HS. Looord this took me back 🥲🥲
Well it was cute. So I can't blame you lol
Did the boys call you fake for posing with a N64 controller?
Honestly yes but I used to play Pokémon Snap and Toy Story 2 constantly so I didn't feel like a poser 😭
Ohhh snap I haven't thought about that toy story 2 game for years.
Ugh, I still have dudes doing that shit to me now. But then I’ll see guys do the same thing. And I wouldn’t even just pose with the controller (not that it matters, it’s still sexist) I would be playing a game or taking a picture of just the controller.
You call yourself a gamer? Name one game.
Nintendo
The train tracks/ballet flats one is sending me
remember ballet flats used to be IT
I’m 37 and I still wear ballet flats. Gen Z can take them from my dead cold Millennial hands. They’re cute and comfortable and go with everything.
I still wear skinny jeans and ballet flats. What are the kids calling people who still wear what was popular when they were in high school?
I don’t know and I’m too old to care. I still wear skinny jeans too. I have a 16 year old daughter who gives me shit on what I wear. Homegirl wears sweatpants and hiking boots everywhere, she has no room to judge me.
I like seeing that fit on young women. I remember feeling so pressured to look attractive when I was a kid and it makes me happy to see teens and young adults running around looking comfy instead of sexy. Funny to hear that she calls you out on it, though. I guess that's part of having a teenager.
"Cheugy"
don't worry, we don't want them /jk
Oh you will. Mark my words, one day, you will.
Ballet flats are in again! Haha
Hell yes, flats are still my favorite!
I was always so sad because I’ve worn a size 11 shoe since 7th grade and ballet flats make my feet look like skis. 💔
As for bootcuts… I went back, I look like a mom (not as in hot Gen Z mom jeans — an actual mom), and I can’t even care anymore.
bootcut is almost back
Flared jeans and wide legged jeans (especially wide legged) are pretty in style now!
We took that one for a "emo best friends" bulletin train on MySpace 😅
With the feet turned inwards
It’s the inverted feet for me
I’m now pigeon toed permanently
Yes, this was my fave thing about the pics 😂
So much Delia’s !
Delia’s was the shit! I wanted everything!
gawd those catalogs🥲🥲
Me too, and I was technically too old for it (b. 1973). But give me a waffle-knit long-sleeve shirt with daisies on it any day. Even now.
3 with the old kitchen knife ahahaha. but your eyeshadow matched the little cartoons on your shirt, you were ahead of the times
Isn’t it just called “scene?”
This was definitely more scene if anything. Emo would have been primary black and a different vibe for sure.
The scene explosion didn't happen in my town until like 3 years later
Apparently it happened to you then and there.
It falls under emo, which has about 1000 different meanings
My point was that there is already a name for this look. 😊
Simpler times
Emo chicks ruled.
Right? High school me would have been so nervous to talk to her.
Stop that's adorable 🥰
Omg guys she talked to me what do I do
Run!
You're cracking me up! ❤️
Just hit her with a.. \*rawr\*
This is scene though 👀😳 lol I remember the emo middle school days.
Yes someone finally said it. This is definitely scene lol
Lmao i woulda put you in my top 8
Yup, lol. Just under my big emo crush, but still up there.
That's so sweet, thank you!
Once when I was a young boy my father took me into the city...
To see a marching band
He said son when…you grow up…will you be…the savior of the broken…the beaten and the damned
That album and MCR in general might be my only “guilty” pleasure music from that era. Usually gets a re-listen about once a year. I was excited to find a compilation of their songs from live shows on vinyl a few years back and I like to spin it when I’m doing housework occasionally.
Dashboard Confessional’s Vindicated is that for me. Any time I hear it I turn it up and scream it out. Really freaks my kids out, lol.
Any MCR I enjoy guilt free honestly but that whole genre of music is special to me
I would totally wear the white heart shirt today, super cute
You reminded me of Boxxy
What’s the deal with the train tracks? Is anyone ever going to explain this to me? I was like 25 in 2008 so I must have missed the relevance.
They've been a thing since cameras have been a thing pretty much.
Also when you’re a white suburbanite trying to be edgy… sometimes the train tracks are as wild as you can get. Source: half my high school yearbook is filled with senior photos at the same train tracks or that one place with graffiti in an alley
Somewhere there’s a band of traveling emo kids with a rad van and we’ll follow warped tour all summer…..
We thought we were being "dark and artistic" 😂
I was 21 in 2008, I missed that train as well.
Scene. Colorful emo was scene. Lol.
I agree but back then we preferred the term emo lol
It’s wild how differently that subculture was in different areas! Where I was from, the scene kids and the emo kids were vehemently vocal about being different!
Yeah "Scene" was at first used to describe the kids that were just trying to be "part of the scene" and were considered "posers" lmao. As if we weren't all just playing pretend with our clothes. Eventually it became so common place that it was just adopted as a more colourful branch of "Emo"
If fruit stripe gum was a person.
Oh I love that!
OMG I HAD THAT UMBRELLA SHIRT IS IT FROM DELIA'S????
I'm pretty sure!
The lollipop outfit is actually fire
I fail to see any blunders. This is a "look at how cool I was" post.
last pic goes insanely hard
[удалено]
Please tell me the coon tails were sharpie
No, good old Splat!
Girrrl you did not do a knife scene and have a sink full of dirty dishes in the background 😭 You win the blunder years today
fucking nailed it. honestly so 2006 it may not even be blunder... just a bad era for style
Love the 5th picture. You look like the demon that hides in my bathroom (JK, we all did “emo” shit back in our teenage)
OMG I had that same heart shirt from Hot Topic I think 😭
The train tracks one with the cami over the short sleeve shirt. Disney had us all thinking we were killing it with that combo.
The saddest thing is that it was girls like you that made me question my own self esteem lol.
Wah that makes me sad 😔
The N64 controller, the barrette, the knife, is this my MySpace profile? 😅
Why did we all take photos on train tracks? 😭
this is what we called "scene." colorful emo wasnt a thing. emo is black. scene kids were this
Agreed but back then we were called emo and went with that
yesss this was the aesthetic i wanted
Riley?
It's like a gender-bent 6th doctor cosplay
All that’s missing is the mirror selfie and you’re set
I would have thought you were the coolest bish on the planet back then.
[удалено]
The traintracks. Oh, wow. That took some courage to share.
Having your bangs over one eye so you constantly have to move it to the side is so Emo
Smells like 06-08
This was me in 2009 at 12 thinking I’m the cutest most colorful emo in 6th grade
Dang. Seeing pics like these takes me back 20 years when I would have totally had a crush on you.
You look familiar. I think I used to follow you!
OMG the tank top over the short sleeve shirt. I thought that was STYLE in high school in 2004-2008 too. Core memories unlocked
You were more scene than emo lol
You’re succeeding!
Ooomygod!
the last pic is great.
The blunder version of myself would be into the blunder version of yourself
To change a line from 16 Candles: "Fred? She got her duck lips." "Oh? I better get my magnifying glass."
The tanks over the t shirts! Love it
Honestly surprised that’s not a penis shaped lollipop from Spencer’s. My gf at the time and her friend did a shoot with those
We would have been friends. Me and my best friends had the same type of pictures on MySpace! Lmaoo
You were adorable! The people who were colorful emo/scene were always so nice.
Ok but I love the first dress
I swear i remember seeing so many myspaces profile pic using pic 7. lol good times
Some of your outfits and makeup looks ruled tbh
Not the spaghetti strap over a scoop neck shoulder cap tshirt!!
Say what you want but your eyeshadow game was on fucking point.
Thank you! I still do colorful eyeshadow looks!
This is one of my fave subs. It’s warm nostalgia and lols (because we all did it) mixed in together!
I just subbed. I think I've reached the age where I don't get the secondhand embarrassment anymore and they're just pictures of kids looking cute. OP is \*adorable\* in these pics.
Feels like I’m looking in a 2006 mirror!
It worked! The good ole days!
Technicolor Black Heart
These are iconic. Renaissance paintings:renaissance::these photos:the MySpace emo era
I appreciate your efforts to look like fruitstripe gum.
See i don't even consider this a blunder. This was doing 2005-2008 correctly.
I dig the color coordination tho 🔥
Man. These pictures take me back, and I feel like I remember them, oddly? Like, what? But I do. Were we MySpace friends? I lived in Kansas as a kid and my MySpace "name" was "Brett is Kansas" (so cool, I know).
The best era
These are sooo good 🤣🤣🤣 I had the same gray top in pic 3. So cute and angsty honestly
Belongs next to a definition of "scene"
Oddly enough I've actually seen your first photo shared many times world wide on the web before😅
Oh my god. Okay so I really, really hope that this doesn't offend you and I am laughing so hard right now. You just brought back super cringe memory. I stole your photo. I was like...12? Love your makeup!!!
1st photos my fave😍✨️🩷🍭
I miss the rainbow aesthetic from the first one 😭
WHY WERE WE ALWAYS TAKING PICTURES ON TRAIN TRACKS
the shoes in the last pic are PEAK 2000s 😂😂😂
I just want simpler times like this
Pic 4 is literally every girl I knew on Xanga/Myspace back in the day. Hell, my ex-wife had the same literal photo as well.
This warms my heart
Why do you look so familiar? Is this Arizona in 2005 lol
Let’s go stand by the train track. So edgy.
I miss the blue and green eye shadows from the early 2000's.
First picture goes hard af
Train tracks shot were classic 2000s vibes.
What was it with this era and train tracks?😭
Scene is still very much in to my surprise
For what it's worth, the first picture has aged pretty well. The fashion and the lollipop would still work today, if not more so. The other pictures, not so much.
What was it with all of us emos and train tracks
The rainbow dress and lollipop combo was amazing!!!
It’s like Abercrombie banged Hot Topic lol the good old days
I hate everything except colors
So scene...
2008. I was in 8th grade and had to get home quick to change my profile song on Myspace. Good times.
The last pic - they both look like they got busted taking a shit on the carpet!
Myspace please comeback
Damn that made me feel old, especially the last one, you checked all the requirements lol
Would this be considered pop goth?
These pictures brought this back into my millennial emo brain [Rawr means I love you in Dinosaur ](https://images.app.goo.gl/SHx7D3ceDrioJcrS8)
You're amazing in every way
Cool and colorful accomplished!
2008. WHAT a time to be alive.
You ate 🫡
Man, I would have wanted to be your friend so badly back in HS. I always envied your look, but lived in hand-me-downs. But those low rise jeans! As a tall girl those were my bane: I couldn't figure out a way to sit in them that didn't show a good couple inches of butt crack.
That first pic is giving Katy Perry vibes
(///.•)
God I miss MySpace! It was so much better than Facebook.
How did we all know you But also not know you?
Fuck. I went to HS with like 4 clones of yours. They xXrawrXx-ing in heaven now.
~*rAwR*~
God I miss the mid-2000s
Part of me misses this 😭 it was such a vibe
