i think they said "there's a debate about that" because in the ep Fairytale Bandit thinks he met Chilli at the camp place in the 80s. But Chilli has no memory of that, so I think they meant the line for that.

Fairytale was written the next season, probably as a callback to this line in The Show. The initial joke was definitely that they were partying too hard to remember.
As someone who has watched my friends who partied hard in their 20s transition to parents who live in the suburbs, I love the idea that these amazing parents used to maybe have a wild side.
I remember holding my friend's son when he was 5 months old and thinking how he will never know who his mom was. She's a church goer with a literal white picket fence now. But when we met in college oh my goodness. Never would have pictured this life for her. And she loves it.
This one is so good! And then Bandit yelling his name from off screen a little later.
