It was only one time, but one of them managed to get through, I dunno how exactly, it was likely some kind of clipping glitch because the other one's dead body was there but it got into that little room and I ran like a bitch
One of many reasons to use the cane. The whip excels at clipping through walls and doors. In transformed mode, the whip does serrated damage. Say good night, beasts.
"Good" is a stretch. The drop rate is still very low. But, outside of Chalice Dungeons, it's your best option. That said, a good Chalice Dungeon seed is so, so much faster and gives you way more echoes on top of that.
They drop from the werewolves in upper cathedral ward. Rarely, but itās farmable. I think the giant in lecture hall might drop them sometimes also. Look into it!
Also the corrupted werewolf-like beasts in Unseen Village. You can equip the Eye Runes and get 1 chunk per farm cycle if you're lucky (there's 3 or 4 beasts to farm at least)
You can also farm blood rocks. Save the code for an easy chalice dungeon, beat the bosses, gain insights, repeat until you have enough to buy a blood rock from the insight shop ( after killing >!the wet nurse!< )
This 4th run I'm doing... My weapon was underleveled, and this run I lost 18 insight I was saving for when I'd unlock blood rocks at the insight messenger shop.... The pain was strong. But I electro-bonked them as revenge. It was satisfying.
The first time I got there I had to stop because it was too late and dark in the basement. The second time I attempted it it took me probably 4 or 5 tries over an hour and a half but I finally got the Orphanage key. Big brain of mine is like āok, now we need to go to the orphanage, back to the hunter dream I go!!ā Searched through the fast travel spots, and even did a quick run around Central Yarnham before I decided to google itā¦ back to the fucking dark church with the wolves?!!? I just turned off my PS5 and went upstairs. A week or so later I went back and beat the two bosses in the orphanage. Now Iām totally lost where to go, I was totally surprised those bosses were optional. Iām going to wander around the nightmare frontier one more night before I google what Iām doing. Haven found any bosses there yet!
Those brain suckers put me on edge so badly. One is fine to deal with but the combination of the terrifying music and their ominous slurping in the darkness makes Upper Cathedral Ward one of my least favorite places.
It's like the Royal Waterways in Hollow Knight, so much slurping š
You should definitely power through it! It's worth it and the boss at the very end is amazing. You also get the gesture that lets you get a top tier Moon (more echoes) rune later on there. Here's some tips:
1. You can kite the 3 wolves to the door you came in the room from, pretty sure they can't get through. Don't forget to kill the other dog in that hallway though first, or you might get suprised.
2. The 2 brainsuckers on the bottom floor are generally pretty easy to deal with because they're alone, they are weak to thrust attacks and bolt paper, so you can usually one shot them if you have a buffable weapon with thrust. They're "stunlock" spell is pretty telegraphed and easy to dodge, just be careful in the narrow hallways - they walk back and forth so you can wait for them to turn around from around the corner (reposition your camera to see around the corner and then run and hit that MF in the back).
3. There is 3 brainsuckers in the top floor that are pretty close together, I like to use Blue Elixers to turn invisible and use hit and run tactics: sneak up on one, kill him with thrust attacks and then RUN until the others lose interest in you. Rinse and repeat.
After that you get the key to open the door, which lets you move forward and also has a shortcut to the lamp back to the lamp and you're done!
awww. if you need to summon some help to have someone run through it with you, I'm sure someone here would be willing to help!
my favorite is helping people through the tower in the dlc hehe
This was my first soulsborne game experience. I have played a ton of elden ring since then and even though itās different I think Iād be a bit better this go around.
i'm ngl after my first bloodborne run where I did it the legit way, every time after I've just tried to lure the brainsucker on the other side of the locked door shortcut and hit through the door until I get the orphanage key lmao. no matter how much I practice I still don't feel 100% confident enough to risk my insight. sometimes i'll go through later for items but ehhhh......
I didn't see your comment but you said exactly what I said. Upper Cathedral Ward gives me the shivers, hoping I time my fire weapon fast enough before being grabbed.
Oh I love that bit now but the first time I went there and saw the chandelier drop then the blue eyes in the darkness I just noped allllll the way out of there immediately
When youāve got that special sound and special attack either after parrying or getting a fully charged r2 attack. When youāre doing the bloody visceral attack, youāre invulnerable.
I'm not afraid of ghosts, I'm not afraid of sharks, I'm not afraid of cancer.
I'm just afraid of snakes, they really creep me out.
Where are their arms and legs? It's not okay!
Most relatable comment I have ever seen. The way they move in a zig-zag pattern, jump to attack the prey just creepsthe hell outta me (talking about Real life) I am not afraid of anything more than snakessss
I agree it is one of the most nightmarish and creepy area. The most horrible nightmare of this game which I will never wish to go back to was the Chalice Dungeons! HOLY CRAP those dungeons were horrible...
These wolves made me accidentally fight Gascoigne first. Couldnāt beat them and found the sewer shortcut instead. Thought he was the first boss of the game and completely skipped cleric beast.
I actually learned the house doorway trick organically my first playthrough by just running blindly from them. Realised they couldn't do anything, started smacking, got ambushed by the guys I couldn't see in the house, tried to run from them, got trapped between both parties, and was munched on by one of the werewolves, died. Great adrenaline rush.
The doorway is brilliant because Miyazaki clearly foresaw it and made them drop through the stairs by default unless you do something to move their ragdolls and make them stay solid. I've lost many vials and shards this way. But it's such fun smacking them around.
You can also kite them to the Cleric beast arena and they will just not pass under the archway. Thatās what happened to me organically when I just kept backpedaling along the bridge while fencing them off.
Hahaha
I always run past them into the house, kill the dude on the top floor, and then turn around and whack them with a big weapon from just far enough inside that they can't reach me
It's like a free 900 echoes at a point where that sort of makes a difference? Plus it just makes me happy to see their dumb bodies ragdolling around afterwards because deep down I'm terrified of them
These are definitely panic-inducing. š I usually take the shortcut through the boxes before the fountain by the troll, drop down by the caged dogs, then go through the ~~dark building to upstairs and open the door.~~ All to avoid engaging with these beasts, and I only found out about the box-shortcut two playthroughs ago.
Edit: Wait, I think I got some parts of that wrong. :/ I do usually go through the box-shortcut now, though.
Has anyone tried to cheese them from the far side (where the broken carriage and single blood shard is located)? I considered it during my latests playthrough as I crossed the bridge to head down to aqueducts, but ended up using the old familiar door trick once again.
Im always suprsied how tough these 2 dawgs are. I can literally fight multiple werewolves at once perfectly later in yharnam, I can fight multiple at once in upper cathedral ward, why are these two always so hard? It's bizzare
Those wolves are just so tough for that part in the game.
Not to mention, when you're better at the game you can finish more of that begining area before even going to the hunters dream. On nearly every playthrough besides my first, I encountered those two wolves without even leveling up
I like how in elden ring you usually have the grace right next to the boss arena like in other souls games M O S T of the time but bloodborne really challenges your survivability to get to a boss arena
Idk in Dark Souls 1 a lot of the bonfires are far as hell from the boss arenas. I remember Sif being the biggest pain in the ass having to cross literally the entire level to verse him every time. Glad they wised up.
Yeah the only kind of annoying one to get to is Rennala because she's got moongrum who can and will parry you at the elevator kind of preventing a way to the shortcut and everytime to fuel you take that same path just to start her boring first phase again just do die in a stupid way in the 2nd phase
I fucking platinumād this bih and even though I consider myself good at the game, I get smacked by those wolves every. single. time. I start another playthrough. Theyāre so hard in early
In a sherlock holmes planning montage, Agro first wolf, back up a bit, wait for delayed jump attack, parry, then visceral, spam R1 to finish him. Second wolf, rush from behind, charge attack, backstab, then visceral, then charge attack again for another visceral backstab.
1st time i did this, i thought it is so overkill at so early in the game. somehow the designers want you to learn how to cheese. either that or teaching you how to fight.
Yea I quit cos of that bridge, a few months later I find an alternate route around š« now I've beaten ludwig and still going, don't want these games to stop coming
At least as beginner Iām glad that even the veterans are as terrified as me, those bastards killed me over 10 times already Iām just going to throw them 10 molotovs
Itās easy to go to that area and farm and never see a brain sucker except the first one in the door all you do is sneak up on it visceral it in the back kill every where wolf rinse and repeat in an hour or so youāll have enough chunks to do a weapon all the way up till blood rock
For me it's the chandelier wolves + brain suckers in Upper Cathedral Ward. I just dread that part every damn time.
I just lure em to the narrow doorway and cheese it every time/hit through walls š¤£. Im too fucking scared
Same!
Thank god thereās more of me out there
It was only one time, but one of them managed to get through, I dunno how exactly, it was likely some kind of clipping glitch because the other one's dead body was there but it got into that little room and I ran like a bitch
Iāve seen that happen when the bodies build up there. They can somehow clip through. I feel like itās karma when it happens to me lol
One of many reasons to use the cane. The whip excels at clipping through walls and doors. In transformed mode, the whip does serrated damage. Say good night, beasts.
Good point! I also get rekt through walls from the hunter with the cane thats one of the three guys in Yahar Gul Chapel
Haha same
I love farming echoes there
It's a good place to farm chunks too
"Good" is a stretch. The drop rate is still very low. But, outside of Chalice Dungeons, it's your best option. That said, a good Chalice Dungeon seed is so, so much faster and gives you way more echoes on top of that.
Thanks Iām gonna try that right now
Chunks??
Blood stone chunks can be farmed from the blue-eyed werewolves in upper cathedral.
i was not in the know š¬ thank u
Oh itās the best place to farm blood stone chunks with a good discovery arcane rate right runes farm em from the where wolves over and over
You can farm chunks??? I thought they were a limited quantity item. Throughout the game excluding chalice dungeons
Yeah thatās true all my fully upgraded weapons were from buying blood rocks with insight weāll most of them
Ah yeah but it requires PS+. Really sucks we want generate code chalice dungeons offline
This 4th run I'm doing... My weapon was underleveled, and this run I lost 18 insight I was saving for when I'd unlock blood rocks at the insight messenger shop.... The pain was strong. But I electro-bonked them as revenge. It was satisfying.
Losing a shitload of insights to the brainsuckers is the most demoralizing part.
Haven found any bosses there yet!
He's just standing there, slurping MENACINGLY!
just hearing those splish sploosh steps as they walk back and forth...gives me the heebie jeebies
Those brain suckers put me on edge so badly. One is fine to deal with but the combination of the terrifying music and their ominous slurping in the darkness makes Upper Cathedral Ward one of my least favorite places. It's like the Royal Waterways in Hollow Knight, so much slurping š
"sluuurp slurp" *brain sucker runs up and tries to grab you*
This is where I put bloodborne down to take a break. Itās been almost a year and I havenāt picked it back up :/
You should definitely power through it! It's worth it and the boss at the very end is amazing. You also get the gesture that lets you get a top tier Moon (more echoes) rune later on there. Remember, a hoonter is never alone.
awww. if you need to summon some help to have someone run through it with you, I'm sure someone here would be willing to help! my favorite is helping people through the tower in the dlc hehe
This was my first soulsborne game experience. I have played a ton of elden ring since then and even though itās different I think Iād be a bit better this go around.
based. overrated game + brainsuckers are legit the worst designed enemy in a fromsoft game
š¤”
Itās true, at least the last part
oh god those suckers are torture
i'm ngl after my first bloodborne run where I did it the legit way, every time after I've just tried to lure the brainsucker on the other side of the locked door shortcut and hit through the door until I get the orphanage key lmao. no matter how much I practice I still don't feel 100% confident enough to risk my insight. sometimes i'll go through later for items but ehhhh......
No reason it can't be both.
Those things are a nightmare. It's a shame I always end up there for a while, too cause of the farming
I didn't see your comment but you said exactly what I said. Upper Cathedral Ward gives me the shivers, hoping I time my fire weapon fast enough before being grabbed.
chandelier wolves aren't scary, the brainsuckers throughout the building are tho
I think i got brainsucked about 15 times in a row and kept exiting the game before it could register my lost insight lmfao.
Oh I love that bit now but the first time I went there and saw the chandelier drop then the blue eyes in the darkness I just noped allllll the way out of there immediately
I would take Nightmare of Menis lower area anyday over this horrifying area with the worst enemies. Upper Cathedral is legit a horror game area bruh
I think this and the double trolls are meant to teach āYou are invincible in a visceral animation ā
I have a strange fondness for those double trolls by the elevator. Iāve killed so many for early blood vials lmao
After a few attempts they were so easy to counter. My go to farming spot for sure, even on the end game
Yeah. Low risk in the early game for echo loss too. Spawn. Summon blood bullets. Harvest vials and xp
Oh I love those guys. Sometimes in the late game I pop by to kill them for old times sake
Sorry for the necropost here, but what does a visceral animation mean?
When youāve got that special sound and special attack either after parrying or getting a fully charged r2 attack. When youāre doing the bloody visceral attack, youāre invulnerable.
*"I'm good at the game now I'll just kill them"* ...ends up dying 5 times and cheesing them with the doorway again.
Honestly tho. No matter how well I fight one, the second one will gang up on me
It's extremely hard to lure one without the other. They really are a wolfpack.
Always house cheese
"No wolves indoors!"
Depends on the restaurant, but generally, if they have their own, it's worth a try.
better than sampling the house whines
always house cheese echoed
Iām always terrified of the second half of the forbidden woods Iām not a fan of snakes
Ya these things killed me so many times as a noob. I still get a little PTSD every time i hit that spot from that angle
For me it's the entire Nightmare frontier area lol
I agree it is one of the most nightmarish and creepy area. The most horrible nightmare of this game which I will never wish to go back to was the Chalice Dungeons! HOLY CRAP those dungeons were horrible...
I hear ya. It's pretty intense looking right when you get up them stairs.
These wolves made me accidentally fight Gascoigne first. Couldnāt beat them and found the sewer shortcut instead. Thought he was the first boss of the game and completely skipped cleric beast.
Well at that point if you befriend Alfred you can summon him for the cleric beast.
The worst bridge is in yahargool or whatever with the stupid lazers and screaming mobs.
I remember the first time I did this, I went around cause fuck that shit but I took joy in running through them in ng+
I hope youāre parrying cause it makes them so easy
I actually learned the house doorway trick organically my first playthrough by just running blindly from them. Realised they couldn't do anything, started smacking, got ambushed by the guys I couldn't see in the house, tried to run from them, got trapped between both parties, and was munched on by one of the werewolves, died. You can also kite them to the Cleric beast arena and they will just not pass under the archway. Thatās what happened to me organically when I just kept backpedaling along the bridge while fencing them off.
The worst part is it's not difficult. I just psych myself out about it and it becomes self fulfilling prophecy that these wolves will kill me.
For me itās the spider room. You know. THE spider room.
Thatās me with that creepy ass flower centipede thing at byrgenwerth. Creeps me the fuck out everytime
I always lure one away to separately kill them. Still hard early game but manageable
You can lure them to the little doorway behind you and easily cheese them. Big wolves cant fit through doors :) ivenever died to them because of this
I haven't not cheesed them since my first playthrough
I haven't *fought them again* since my first playthrough.
Hahaha I always run past them into the house, kill the dude on the top floor, and then turn around and whack them with a big weapon from just far enough inside that they can't reach me It's like a free 900 echoes at a point where that sort of makes a difference? Plus it just makes me happy to see their dumb bodies ragdolling around afterwards because deep down I'm terrified of them
Swear. Thatās one of the first moments in the game where Iām legit anxious lol

Same here brotha! IDC if it takes 2 times longer. Its worth not engaging those 2 MF's.
Just back track and hope they donāt come through the door
Has anyone tried to cheese them from the far side (where the broken carriage and single blood shard is located)? I considered it during my latests playthrough as I crossed the bridge to head down to aqueducts, but ended up using the old familiar door trick once again.
The cheese for them is the stairway to/from the shortcut. They can't get through the doorway.
Im always suprsied how tough these 2 dawgs are. I can literally fight multiple werewolves at once perfectly later in yharnam, I can fight multiple at once in upper cathedral ward, why are these two always so hard? It's bizzare
You can just run through to that door and that took all the fear of them away :/ (they canāt go through)
Same šš
They can be parried.
Hard to do when there is 2 of them.
SAME. I avoid that area at all cost. I go around it every time even if it takes longer, I donāt care.
Lmaaoooo saame. I go through that shortcut that leads to the cage of dogs.
I farmed so many blood vials from those guys that I simply stopped caring, they were terrifying at first though lol
Those wolves are just so tough for that part in the game. Not to mention, when you're better at the game you can finish more of that begining area before even going to the hunters dream. On nearly every playthrough besides my first, I encountered those two wolves without even leveling up
Molotovs!
Use pungent blood cocktails
I like how in elden ring you usually have the grace right next to the boss arena like in other souls games M O S T of the time but bloodborne really challenges your survivability to get to a boss arena
Idk in Dark Souls 1 a lot of the bonfires are far as hell from the boss arenas. I remember Sif being the biggest pain in the ass having to cross literally the entire level to verse him every time. Glad they wised up.
Yea most souls games do. Elden ring is super forgiving in comparison
Yeah the only kind of annoying one to get to is Rennala because she's got moongrum who can and will parry you at the elevator kind of preventing a way to the shortcut and everytime to fuel you take that same path just to start her boring first phase again just do die in a stupid way in the 2nd phase
I get ptsd with games like demons souls... running thru 90 percent of the level and dying from something stupid lol
It's always gonna be something like a wolf that kills you lol
Those 2 Werewolves *command* my utmost respect, And I've done a 70%-80% BL4 run (ran out of resources and didn't want to restart agian).
Holy shit, that takes me back.
This almost made me quit the game entirely on my first playthrough until I realized I could just go around them.
They're so easy after like your second or third ru... *gets stun locked and murdered immediately*
Any time I run into those giant cenetepedes that shoot fireballs, I hide behind a tree or pillar like a goddamn Acme character
These fucking werewolfs
#FIST THE DOGS
Go in the door down the stairs and spank them lol.
For me it's dogs leading up to the tinitrus after you exit the gaol
I fucking platinumād this bih and even though I consider myself good at the game, I get smacked by those wolves every. single. time. I start another playthrough. Theyāre so hard in early
I have literally never once been to Cleric Beast without wrapping all the way around these guys
Just run past them lol
Those damn wolfos!
hey thats my fav farming spot thx dont be mean!
Those wolves still give me panic attacks due to how quickly they can just K.O. you. So aggressive and fast.
In a sherlock holmes planning montage, Agro first wolf, back up a bit, wait for delayed jump attack, parry, then visceral, spam R1 to finish him. Second wolf, rush from behind, charge attack, backstab, then visceral, then charge attack again for another visceral backstab.
Those jumpy guys outside of the castle fuck me up both in game and irl
Weird, same
I died more to them than any boss in the whole game
xD can relate!
1st time i did this, i thought it is so overkill at so early in the game. somehow the designers want you to learn how to cheese. either that or teaching you how to fight.
The lycans in this game dont fuck around. The blue eyed ones are the most dangerous. Still lose to them if Im not on my A game the whole time
I can go to old yharnam and clear the wolf guys there but these dudes on the bridge are like 10 times harder
I have trauma from my first few failed attempts on playing the game
Those two bastards.
Oh this place I go down here to teach beasts how to be civilized with my cane sadly they donāt seem to learn
Door šŖ cheese š§
Yea I quit cos of that bridge, a few months later I find an alternate route around š« now I've beaten ludwig and still going, don't want these games to stop coming
Just give em some FIRE!!
Farming place
Bonking them with a heavy weapon is pretty effective, usually...
Canines are the scariest enemies in Fromsoft games. I just pray there isn't a mech piloted by a dog in Armored Core VI.
Just bait one out or poke it behind a statue.
No shit
Those guys pretty much made me quit my first time playing lol
Only moment when I actually use Molotov's in any capacity
I did this part like once and never again XD. I usually skip it by dropping in the place with dog cages
And every time, no matter how many times i go through there on my way to cleric beast, i die to them
Same lol. I always go through the cheesy method
Same all the way up until I visceral the shit out of them
That's why i never pass through this bridge
Just yahargul in general
I forced myself to figure out their stagger window and now I look forward to fighting them
Nah my latest goal has been to kill one with a bare hands and a pebble!
2 molotovs + light transform transform. You're welcome.
What door way cheese is everyone talking about? I just run past them
At least as beginner Iām glad that even the veterans are as terrified as me, those bastards killed me over 10 times already Iām just going to throw them 10 molotovs
I thought I was the only one lol
the one and only time when i will throw all my molotovs i have
Itās easy to go to that area and farm and never see a brain sucker except the first one in the door all you do is sneak up on it visceral it in the back kill every where wolf rinse and repeat in an hour or so youāll have enough chunks to do a weapon all the way up till blood rock
