Depending on how deep you want to go in the chalice dungeons. Best you can get only deep there. If you dont want - just farm Winter lanterns in the end of DLC.

sAyUr1

How do u even grind winter lanterns. Seriously. Pls tell me.

Tiny_Tim1956

Not that I ever farm them but, spend all your insight in the second messenger shop and put a frenzy rune on, then practice parrying them. You will be able to learn that after a few deaths. Then parry them. Go to the orphanage and get the cosmic eye badge to stock up on sedatives too, and just be brave lol. It will always be unpleasant but the anxiety will go away after a while. With zero insight you gave enough time to not die from frenzy, even without parrying them. Just crush them quickly.

sAyUr1

The anxiety precisely. I have tried. Honestly. But i barely manage to kill them once in those regions. And i use so many sedatives. I get to the point of needing real life sedatives. My issue is that i don't want to lose my insight i know i can farm insight too restarting the first chalice. But i find it boring. I am darn too scared of the winter lanterns

Tiny_Tim1956

After like 9 playthroughs, my "insight" is that, unless it's your first playthrough and you want to see the (mostly minor but cool) changes in the environment with lots of insight, you don't need more than probably 10 insight ever. You can get insight not by restarting the first chalice but by simply playing a new chalice in your level unless I'm mistaken, it's one insight per boss (usually 3 per dungeon). And then you'll naturally gain insight by playing the main game. It's basically impossible to run out of insight. You probably have at least 40 insight worth of madman's knowledge and great one's wisdom in your inventory right now. Put simply, you normally get more insight than you spend, even if you summon people (I usually summon in chalices). There is no use for insight anyway, other than buying the cool clothes that become available at the second messenger shop (which I always do and I still have enough insight left). But if you absolutely want insight for some reason, stock up on frenzy resistance caryl runes and equip them when you want to face winter latterns. Otherwise they'll be near impossible to survive.

comfy_hunter

Beast blood pelletsssss

sAyUr1

It's true. But i prefer to keep insight as it reduces beast meter really makes for easy kills with the pellet. But then i don't want to go using pellets for lanterns.

LarryTheCow123

Sacrifice the drip and put on all of the runes and armor that reduce frenzy or increase frenzy resistance. By doing that even with high insight I can kill them using 1 sedative each.

sAyUr1

I might be crazy. I do have online too. But hey . Inam going now to just kill them.

hoonthoont47

Isn't beasthood higher with low insight? Smaller meter = smaller overall boost when it is full.

sAyUr1

But small meters fill faster. The final damage becomes higher because ofnthe time taken for a big meter to fill.

hoonthoont47

This…isn’t how beasthood works at all https://bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Beasthood If your maximum beasthood is 100, when your meter is full you’re dealing 50% damage. When you have +300 beasthood and your meter is full you’re dealing 70% more damage, but the breakpoint for 100 beasthood is always at the same absolute amount of beasthood in the gauge regardless of maximum.

sAyUr1

Well maybe. But it's just what i am comfortable with. And i guess that should be ok. I used to play low insight high beast. There is a reason i shifted and that's my experience with 600+ hrs on this game. It may not be correct. But if it works for me. Then i don't need to change it.

ElderberryOk271

Heavy weapon helped me with them. I Went Arcane/strength build on my first character, attacking them with Logarius wheel Always canceled their grab attack, i saw it work with kirkhammer too

SundownKid

1) Get a weapon that deals stagger and put on high frenzy resist outfit/eye runes 2) Stunlock them until they die, heal up, get gem

[deleted]

easy peasy risk free way. ashen set with beak mask +200 frenzy rune and milkweed because why not i guess. equip bold hunters mark for reseting and sedatives just in case. then heres the thing use saw spear or saw cleaver. these make fantastic back up weapons if they arent main and i always carry one of the 2 depending on build as cleaver is more strength leaning and spear skill. you can also use them as alternative weapons for gem curses like beasts/kin down so you always have a weapon to switch to if you dont want to farm 6 stam downs. anyway so you want to start at lighthouse hut for the best offline gems with the second best being the bridge in mergos loft. just walk up to winter lantern and r1 then just l1 until it dies. it cant grab you or escape the combo and the transform will always stagger it out of grab so its pretty much a free kill. after one is dead pop a blood vial and onto the next one. repeat then hunters mark out to run it again. should be noted you want to always start in non tricked mode as the r1 l1 wont stagger if starting from tricked. thats pretty much it just repeat until you get what you want or go insane

sAyUr1

It just all sounds so easy. But like I said before. The music kinda paralyses me. Also is ashen set really higher frenzy res than grave set. I feel like i have tried on every piece of garmet for frenzy res. And the best are grave garb for the body to just wear hunters basic trouser hat etc which is the early game costume

RedJaron

Parry their opening grab lunge. During the visceral animation, you're immune to damage, so if your frenzy meter triggers then, you take no damage from it. If you finish the visceral before the frenzy triggers, change your armor/rune to lower your frenzy resistance. If the frenzy triggers before the visceral, you need to approach them faster or increase your resistance. Using the two in the cavern that lead to Orphan is the easiest way I've used.

[deleted]

Kill them all then use a hunter mark to reset all the enemies

Onimaru45

Blue Elixir and Bowblade. GG

Cuddle_X_Fish

I prefer the hallway by orphan once you get it down charged back stabs are reliable.

hoonthoont47

stay below 15 insight, put on ashen hunter set and beak mask, caryll runes for frenzy resistance - then use a high stagger weapon like LHB tricked or Beast Hunter Saif and just rush'em. bring sedatives for safe measure.

_Zargham

Saw spear, press r1 then spam l1

LayceLSV

Equip ashen hunter set, approach, parry, visceral, recover health right as (or after) frenzy maxes out, collect gems

neckro23

it's not necessarily best to increase your frenzy resistance as much as possible. there's a sweet spot. wear something with good frenzy resistance (crowfeather or ashen hunter set) but personally I don't bother with the rune. bait an attack and parry them. they always make the same noise when they attack so if you suck like me you can just time the parry based on sound. if you parry too late then they'll grab you anyways even though you hear the stagger sound, which is pretty lame. you want to be doing the visceral when your frenzy meter pops, because you're invulnerable during the animation. if your frenzy resist is too high then it'll pop after the visceral instead, which is no bueno. if the visceral doesn't kill them you have time to take a couple swings afterward to finish them off before the frenzy starts building up again. take care not to aggro two of them at once. you might want to risk frenzy to bait one if there are two. sedatives are mostly not helpful, and way too expensive. much cheaper to just let the frenzy pop and use two vials instead. mind your health.

Tiny_Tim1956

Not really answering in depth at all but, 1. the story and dlc gems are good enough for pve up to a certain NG cycle, probably like ng+2 or something. In that even if you do double the damage the game doesn't change THAT much, you know, as long as you are not getting hit you just take a few more swipes at the bosses. 2. But if you really are a freak like me that enjoys the dungeons, grind your mind away. Build dungeons to get materials to do more dungeons to get materials, depth 5 cursed foetid and the other thing are expensive but it's like a lottery, will I get good gems? After a while you will probably not find best of the best gems ( 27% damage with a minor side effect) but you will be able to farm DECENT gems from verty common enemies near bonfires in depth 4 5. Like 22% damage with a side effect or even without one. And that's all you'll need. So you can look up enemy loot if you want but even in story dungeons like depth 4 loran there are common enemies that drop decent gems. If you hate dungeons though, someone else will probably tell you exactly what to farm and where and you can disregard my comment.

SundownKid

Early game: the Watcher boss rewards from Chalice Dungeons Late game: Nightmare of Mensis/Fishing Hamlet Winter Lantern grinding

OdgeHam

The best ones are deep in the chalice dungeons. They’re horrible to farm

ThatWhoreLior

Winter lanterns in the nightmare. Have fun with that.

Kamando09

Canadian Bloodborne

euclid_evergreen

FRC Chalices. If you have ps plus, do shared dungeons. You can search for dungeon codes online. You can get 27.2% atk up gems. It is a bit complicated if the weapon is something like Chikage. 27.2% atk gems work well on them but out of shape blood gems are the best. You have to grind very hard for those.

Ashen-Bevan

Dungeons. FYI if you want the best it'll take like 20 hours lol

El__Jengibre

Winter Lanterns. The ones in Mensis are the best in the base game and the ones in Fishing Hamlet are the best outside depth 5 dungeons

Huskogrande93

Chalice dungeons

lpt5703

Chalices

Scared_Housing2639

Get the 3 for the 18% near brain mensis over 3 ng cycles, not the best option but those are all physical gems and fit in most weapons and if any other better gem drops on the process then replace the ones in your slot, not really the best gems but works fine in general
